According to an ‘Exclusive’ on Sunday morning, Newcastle United could be set to lose Jamaal Lascelles to West Ham.

It is claimed that the West Ham owners are desperate to get their club back on track and want the Newcastle Captain as one of their main summer transfer targets, if they stay up.

It would be a major surprise if the Hammers didn’t want to improve their defence…

They have actually scored more goals (36) than any other club currently in the bottom nine but when it comes to defending, only Stoke (58) have conceded more than West Ham’s total of 57 leaked so far, in only 30 games.

The ‘Exclusive’ has been ran by The Sun and the story hardly stands up, even if you believed they had inside information that West Ham are planning a move for Jamaal Lascelles.

Liverpool have just paid over £70m for van Dijk and poor/average central defenders such as Mamadou Sakho (Palace) and Michael Keane (Everton) have been bought for £25m each.

So for The Sun to suggest West Ham could get Lascelles for £15m when he is Newcastle’s best defender, best player and captain, is laughable.

As for being ‘tempted’ to move to West Ham if he is offered more money, you would hope/assume that if Jamaal Lascelles ever did leave Newcastle, he wouldn’t be seeing a move to The Hammers as a step up, or even sideways, hopefully.

Newcastle fans and Rafa Benitez see Lascelles as a player to build a team around and now we are waiting on safety being achieved as quickly as possible, then the club to be sold and everybody to be looking forward once again.

Or…if we are still stuck with Mike Ashley, that he sees the only way forward for everybody, is to properly back Rafa Benitez this summer with the right level of players to complement the likes of Newcastle’s captain.

The Sun:

‘West Ham are planning a £15million raid for Newcastle skipper Jamaal Lascelles.

Hammers want to make some big captures to please their angry fans and they see centre-half Lascelles as one of their main targets.

Owners David Sullivan and David Gold have already started work on improving recruitment and there will be funds for new talent if they stay up.

Lascelles, 24, has been a stand-out for the Toon this season under manager Rafa Benitez.

But he could be tempted by a bigger deal with West Ham — especially as the defender’s agent is close to the Hammers camp.

In the end, a deal is likely to come down to the size of the bid and the wages offered.’

£15m? Try trebling it and even then I don’t think he’d go to West Ham- unless Rafa goes too . .

We should be selling nobody to anyone we might be scrapping with at the relegation end of the table

  • Peaky Magpie

Give me fu*king strength….the bollox that’s coming out over this enforced break of ours is embarrassing to say the least.

  • Chuck D

Love it if they went down! Their fans protesting the other week was some how acceptable, yet we are made out to be ungrateful deluded fools?!

Again it’s the arrogance of some of the media to assume West Ham is a bigger club and any of our players would jump at the chance to move there!

    What did Matt Ritchie say?!

  • Leazes.

Graham, If you don’t believe it then don’t report it! Others will do the same until it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

He will probably go in summer but to a better club than Wet spam, I find it so damaging that our own press particularly the chronicle help to destabilize players either through malice, stupidity, or they are paid by the buying club to do it!

Of course he’ll go, he’s on a five year extended contract, so Ashley will be able to maximise the sale, and at the last minute after ticket sales are in, and after Rafa has been assured that the money will be spent in the next window or the one after that…..

… its called ‘string theory’….. we’re all being strung along!

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

This lot are getting as bad as Ryder

      • Leazes.

They are indeed…. the ‘stats’ prove it.

        • Wor Monga

How do the stats prove it…when they’re not real stats…mathematically stats are not stats unless they are proven to be mathematically statistical, and can therefore be true only when compared against a true analysis of random phenomena…

…like you told us last week professor Hawking, remember!!!

For once I agree with Leazes’, reporting on rubbish is fuelling the fire.

  • robbersdog

The £15m transfer fee being quoted is rubbish, but it’s not too outlandish to suggest that a bid of around £25m and a significant wage increase for Lascelles could result in him decamping to the Hammers.

He may be our captain, but he’s not a geordie with family links to the area and if he can double his wages (West Ham are already paying the likes of Hernandez and Arnautović around £120k/week each) by moving down South, I’d be surprised if he didn’t jump at the chance.

    • Jezza

Spot on. You can’t definitely can’t rule about the possibility of Lascelles going to West Ham.

  • gallowgate26

Good grief, I was expecting the hacks to link him to a top 6 club… Wet Spam are not even a PL club next season yet..

  • Shields Mag

I think this story is load of rubbish for one thing I definitely don’t think West Ham will be his destination I think they will be relegated in my opinion along with Stoke and West Brom. They are leaking goals for fun.

    • Jezza

I’ve got a feeling Southampton will come in for Lascelles if they stop up. After Van Dijk’s move to Liverpool, they need a centre half and they’ve got money to burn.

  • Awaymag

I have no doubt the hammers would want to sign him, no doubt Ashley would cash in on him but I don’t think (at least I hope) that he would go.

Unless we go down (which we won’t, I hope)

Also the Sun are full of ………… nonsense.

    • Jezza

Agreed, The Scum are full of nonsense but one thing is certain. Ashley will be actively looking to cash in on our captain this summer.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

If Lard A $$ doesn`t sell up Rafa will be gone & his next club will buy Jamaal.
    put money on it !

      🐴 💩

  • Da Ca

West Ham won’t be bothered what the transfer fee would be anyway they would just get the tax payer to pay for it because they seem to be paying for everything the club does

  • Wor Monga

No!…there’s no way that Lascelles will be going to West Ham or any other club for less than Liverpool paid for Van Dijk…if a top 6 club will pay that for a CD then the amount level has been set in concrete, and Ashley won’t bite for anything less…he never has and in fact he always settles for more…take it or leave it…

…any attempt to offload Jamaal would be the trigger for Rafa to walk away…because he has total control on the players at the club, and Lascelles along with Dummett is one of the defensive foundations he’s established…

…this smells purely of West Ham biased rubbish intended to destabilise one of the better teams around them…seeing as they’re in it knee deep now…with a mediocre manager, a crowd turning nasty, and a stadium that’s not fit for purpose!!!

    • TheNutJob

it`s highly questionable that he has total control of the players after Fatty pulled the rug from under him in January last year

      • Jezza

Agreed 100%. The past three transfer windows have made it perfectly clear that Rafa has got NO SAY WHATSOEVER in the club’s transfer dealings. If West Ham or any other club put enough money on the table, Lascelles will be off like a shot. Ashley will want the money and, as always, that will dictate everything.

  • TheNutJob

He`s Capt of the Mighty Toon, he won`t leave unless Fatty pulls a stroke when he`s offered top dollar for him & £15m is laughable.

Jamaal wouldn’t go anywhere while Rafas here. It’s obvious how much he respects him and has improved under his watch.

  • Wor Lass

Someone`s agent`s started the campaign for an improved deal, I think!

When I read this the first time around I asked the question “In which parallel universe does moving from NUFC to Wet Spam represent a good career move” ?
