Jurgen Klopp press conference “Rafa Benitez is one of the best Managers in the World”

Jurgen Klopp is over halfway towards matching Rafa Benitez’ record of 622 days as Liverpool boss without a Premier League home defeat.

Liverpool are unbeaten this season in the league with eight wins and six draws, impressive but no reason why Newcastle can’t potentially avoid defeat, just as the likes of Burnley and West Brom have done this season.

Since leaving Liverpool, Rafa Benitez has faced his old club three times and so far not lost.

His two games with NUFC saw a Newcastle comeback from 2-0 down to draw in the relegation run-in of 2015/16, whilst earlier this season United came back from one down thanks to that Joselu ‘special’ to equalise.

Jurgen Klopp says that likes Rafa Benitez ‘but we have given enough presents to him!’ in the past.

Praising his counterpart and friend, Klopp says the Spaniard is ‘one of the best managers in the world’ and can ‘organise a team to make life difficult’.

Already through to the last eight of the Champions League (lead 5-0 from away leg in Porto) and currently second in the Premier League, life is now sweet for Jurge Klopp and Liverpool, but he admits that ‘if we don’t perform against Newcastle then it will feel different’.

Rafa managed to get his team to knock Man Utd off their stride last month and will be no doubt looking to do the same on Saturday.

Here’s hoping.

Jurgen Klopp:

“I like Rafa Benitez as a person but we have given enough presents to him!

“We were 2-0 up (at Anfield in 2015/16 and drew 2-2).

Rafa Benitez is one of the best managers in the world.

“You all know how he can organise a team to make life difficult.

“We have built a new stand, we are building a new training ground and we have brought in fantastic players.

“The club is in a very good moment but if we don’t perform tomorrow against Newcastle then it will feel different.

“We have no big injuries and hopefully it stays like this.

“Rotation is not always about resting players, it is about using the competition in the squad to get them to perform again.”

On VAR:

“I don’t think there have been any games without any issues.

“In Germany, in the first part of this season there was a lot of irritation with it too.

“But now it’s much more settled – it will take time.”
