A fantastic day all round with results going our way. Almost safe now. 😀 Diame was excellent again and deservedly MOM.

  • Philippines

Interesting that BBC match report on their web site had Kenedy as MOM. MOD pundits said Shelvey. Anyway, the whole team was terrific. Roll on the next game.

    • For me it was a team effort. Everyone did fantastic apart from Gayle who should have scored one in the first half out of all those chances

  • Whickhamrobbie

If we could finish our chances we would have battered em ,Great win .
Motm Diame no problem but we were good all over against a Poor Huddersfield .

    • Wor Lass

If we could finish our chances we wouldn`t have been relegated and we`d be eyeing a European spot by now.

Big question of the day – will Jonathan smash the 4 point barrier for Perez?

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

      Yes he did

  • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

Why is Gayle marked so low, he caused them constant problems.

    • Monkseaton Magpies

He might give him three point five for a change an extra 0.1 mark for scoring the winner.

    • Phil Yare

a good player gets into good positions, he’s obviously a bit low on confidence. always think the criticism of gayle is harsh considering he is often playing against 4 defenders with perez slipping into midfield. hes still the only toon player to score 20 plus goals in a season in recent memory (yes in the championship….perez got 9 in comparison)

    • He failed to finish any of them. For a striker you have to take at least one of those chances.

      • Phil Yare

you miss the point, he was a danger. making runs and dragging defenders is very good work

        • thewildchimp

Yet we scored immediately after he was subbed… Slimani takes at least 25% of credit for the goal. The real people who caused problems for them were Shelvey, Ritchie, Kenedy and Diame.

          • Phil Yare

that’s true, but i’m sure hes not that much of a counter-productive player.
personally you’ve hit the nail on head with mentioning slimani, we’ve needed gayle or perez to play alongside someone more physical rather than alongside each other.

i defo think joselu is not the answer and obviously the jurys out on mitrovic

      • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

True but the best goal scorer of recent ti,es was Andy Cole and he mssed loads but he made defences work so he scored loads too.

  • robbersdog

I love the way Rafa has turned Diamé into a top-class midfielder – he just gets better and better.

  • Phil Yare

diame will collect the ballon d’or and lift the world cup for senegal after taking the ball off messi and running 80 yards to flick the ball up and overhead kick it into the net in the 94th min

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Well, we didn`t miss the Hoss & i thought Gayle did an excellent impression of him
it`s all well & good getting into those positions but you have to hit the target.
still on another day he`d have had 3

  • TheTradge

Best part of the latter half of this season for me has definitely been seeing Diamé get better and better, who’d have thought a couple of years ago that he’d turn into one of our best players! He was a constant dogged nuisance against Huddersfield, didn’t leave them alone, may well be turning into our own N’golo Kante!
