Dodgy reasoning but agree with this Paul Merson conclusion on Newcastle United
I agree with Paul Merson, kind of.
Yet again, the player turned pundit makes you feel that he does just make it up as he goes along, when giving his ‘expert’ analysis.
Merson has been looking at the Newcastle v Southampton match and given us his findings.
He goes for a 2-0 home win but how he gets to that conclusion is a bit dubious, though I do agree that we will win this one after a struggle.
The former Arsenal player indicates that it will be Newcastle’s home form that can help them get to safety.
Not much of a comfort when only West Brom have picked up fewer points at home than Rafa’s team.
Paul Merson also throws in the Manchester United game as reason for optimism and of course it was a massive boost. Though that was the first victory at St James Park for almost four months in the Premier League.
As for the opposition, Southampton might not win many but with only one defeat in their last seven PL matches, they won’t be any pushover.
Paul Merson speaking to Sky Sports:
“Newcastle came up against a better team in Liverpool the other day but I think they’ll be alright.
“You look at them and they’ve got players who, especially Jonjo Shelvey if he plays well, should make sure they’re alright at home and they got a massive result against Manchester United the other week.
“Southampton have got four away games on the trot, they’re in the FA Cup against Wigan and when they’re doing that Premier League teams will be playing football, if they win then they’ll be in the semi-final when teams will be playing again.
“They could be in a horrible position soon, if they don’t get anything here.
“They’ll be playing catch-up and will be in the bottom three.
“They’re missing Charlie Austin, and they seem like a team who want to don’t lose before they win.
“Prediction is Newcastle 2 Southampton 0.”
