It is Newcastle v Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon, both sides knowing that a win would go a long way towards ensuring they are in the Premier League next season.

BBC Sport have published the likelihood of either club winning, based on the predictions of  ‘super computer’ SAM.

(SAM (Sports Analytics Machine) is a super-computer created by Professor Ian McHale at the University of Liverpool that is used to predict the outcome of football matches.

SAM’s verdict is…

Most probable score: 1-0

Probability of home win: 56%

Probability of away win: 25%

Probability of draw: 19%

Basically, the prediction is for Newcastle to win but not by much.

Hopefully the three week gap without a game won’t have stunned the momentum.

Certainly the Magpies will have enjoyed these last three weeks more than the visitors, losing at home to Crystal Palace 13 days ago, whilst Newcastle were in Spain thanks to the Spurs match postponed.

Against a Huddersfield team that have lost 10 of their 15 away games and have conceded 30 goals on their travels, a great chance for Rafa and his players.

Let’s get at them from the start and make it three home victories on the bounce

Match of The Day commentator Guy Mowbray pre-match notes:

“For all David Wagner’s confident words, his Huddersfield players need to show they haven’t ‘hit the wall’ as they approach “the last yards of the marathon”.

“Their last two games have been big opportunities missed, and defeat in this next match of huge significance really would test the togetherness Wagner has built his squad upon.

“Newcastle meanwhile look to have got it together to pace their run to the finish nicely.

Rafa Benitez may not have had the funds he wanted in January but the loan signings of Martin Dubravka and Kenedy have worked out superbly so far.

“They need another home win to keep up the momentum.

“Huddersfield need points (and goals) to stop the rot.”

And have McHale interfere, cheat or alter the algorithms when I beat his toy just like IBM did to Kasparov? No thanks.

Win today and we are safe. Lose today and we’ll have to wait a while longer to celebrate.
