Jack Colback has made a massive impression at Nottingham Forest.

Having been frozen out by Rafa Benitez, the midfielder was one of many Newcastle players who headed out on loan in January.

After starting with two defeats, including against Fulham and Aleksandar Mitrovic on his Forest debut, Jack Colback is now on a run of six games without defeat.

However, already, both Nottingham Forest fans and team-mates, are worrying whether they will stand a chance of keeping the Geordie midfielder after the end of this season.

Concerns about competition from other clubs and how to satisfy the midfielder’s wage demands are top of the worry list.

You could imagine plenty of Championship clubs being interested in the unwanted Newcastle midfielder and at a push, even as a longshot possibly one of the promoted teams from the Championship this season.

However, it is wages that are likely to be the biggest sticking point, Jack Colback having signed as a free agent for Newcastle and subsequently getting boosted wages at NUFC of between £45,000 and £60,000, depending on who you believe.

With a year left at Newcastle on his contract, Colback will surely have to compromise on that wage if he wants to get a permanent move in the summer and a fresh start.

Forest midfielder Ben Watson talking to the Nottingham Post:

“Jack Colback has been brilliant.

“Since I have got into the team, it has been me and him in the middle, and he is a quality player who has played at the highest level.

“The more we can get Jack on the pitch and the more games we play together, it can only benefit the club.

“I think everyone at the club would like to see him extend his stay beyond the end of the season. But if he keeps performing the way he is, I don’t think he will be short of offers in the summer.

“It will be Jack’s decision come the end of the season. But myself and everyone else would love to see him at the club for longer.”

Comments from Forest fans via their top message boards/Nottingham Post:

‘Hopefully with jack having experienced the feeling of being frozen out at a club he would realise the merits of being at a club where he is wanted, needed and loved when he decides his next move.’

Top signing! Daren’t even dream about Colback signing in the summer.’

‘He doesn’t get in ahead of Diame or Shelvey, but improves our midfield dramatically.

Seems everyone’s happy, get him signed.’

‘Hopefully he’ll continue to put in the classy performances and look to stay here.’

‘Looks like the midfielder we have been missing.’

If Colback is too expensive then we don’t want to be a Prem club.

As part of the recent switch & drive to make us one I fully expect his signing.’

Shows the difference in class/quality between the two divisions.

It`s funny how things go. I remember him looking good for Sunlun and for us when he first arrived. The “Ginger Pirlo” he definitely is NOT. He seemed to lose his way for us and ended up passing sideways and backwards and giving away free kicks in dangerous areas. Good luck to him, though.

      • mentalman

another player damaged by previous managers.

What i really disliked about colback was the fact that he’d chase a player from their own half nipping at his ankles like a terrier and then foul him just outside the box, he knew all along he was going to need to foul him to stop him so why not do it in the centre circle

        • Wor Lass

          Absolutely true!

        • Cockneytrev

          Spot on,,
It wasn’t the fouls he gave away it’s that He always fouled in a dangerous place,,

    • kingfisher

Exactly Peaky, Mitro being a perfect example!
I see Tony Mowbray is saying that Adam Armstrong is too good for that league! I hope Ashley doesn’t read that or he’ll have him back and save himself having to spend ten bob on a new striker next season! ( if he’s still our owner) !

      • Peaky Magpie

Time will tell if the Fat Lad stays or not….I tell you what Kingfisher you aren’t half the spit of Supermac on your avatar photo 😂😂😂

        • kingfisher

Aye Peaky, it’s amazing what a bit of plastic surgery can do isn’t it? I used to look like Mike Ashley, but I got sick of Clarko trying to roger me. I hope he has big feet to stop him from disappearing up Ashleys a**e completely 😁

    • Mxpx

Absolutely not colback and mitrovic were useless in the championship for us the issue is more mental I believe

  • Mike

    Who? Won’t be missed

  • Paul Patterson

If you can afford him, don’t worry about losing him . .

  • Tynewalker

I remember Sunderland fans complaining about him signing for us but indicating Roswell was far superior. Can’t believe there was a dispute about the merits of these two. !!!Both unlikely to play in The Premiership again.

  • Polarboy

Aye, I had to up my anxiety pills worrying about it to be fair.

  • Dillon Tovak

They must be so 💩 if he’s that good in their team.

  • Rich Lawson

Give him a free, job done.He cost us nowt, apart from wages without a squad number !

  • Yes, that’s how shocking the Prem and Championship level difference is.
Colback is a top 5 Championship midfielder, but will get your team relegate in the Prem for sure. I still don’t see how Gosling gets games at Bournemouth. Sure he grabs an odd goal here and there, but doesn’t contribute anything else really as he didn’t with us. Slow on the ball, below par technical skills, weak shot, meh passing at best. He is great in the box, but nothing more.

    • Mxpx

Thats not what has happened here he had a great spell for us in the Premier league and was woeful for us in the championship I’d say the issue is his mentality

      • Great when we got relegated? He has a good start but faded after 6-7 games as far as I remember.

  • Big Al 1967

Strange that. Watched Forest on Sunday against Derby and thought he was absolute pants! Unsurprisingly picked up a customary Yellow card for a needless foul. Will not be missed

  • Jonathan Gibson

Championship player, hopefully pickup a couple of million for him in summer.
Ginger Pirlo? plenty of alternative latter’s id suggest.

  • Philippines

Who remembers Johnny Haynes (whom I saw play) the first 100 pound a week footballer in UK?

  • Geordiegiants

It wasn’t that long ago the England thing. Good luck to the lad, he had a heart like a lion, he was a midfield Mitro.
