Jack Colback has made a massive impression at Nottingham Forest.
Having been frozen out by Rafa Benitez, the midfielder was one of many Newcastle players who headed out on loan in January.
After starting with two defeats, including against Fulham and Aleksandar Mitrovic on his Forest debut, Jack Colback is now on a run of six games without defeat.
However, already, both Nottingham Forest fans and team-mates, are worrying whether they will stand a chance of keeping the Geordie midfielder after the end of this season.
Concerns about competition from other clubs and how to satisfy the midfielder’s wage demands are top of the worry list.
You could imagine plenty of Championship clubs being interested in the unwanted Newcastle midfielder and at a push, even as a longshot possibly one of the promoted teams from the Championship this season.
However, it is wages that are likely to be the biggest sticking point, Jack Colback having signed as a free agent for Newcastle and subsequently getting boosted wages at NUFC of between £45,000 and £60,000, depending on who you believe.
With a year left at Newcastle on his contract, Colback will surely have to compromise on that wage if he wants to get a permanent move in the summer and a fresh start.
Forest midfielder Ben Watson talking to the Nottingham Post:
“Jack Colback has been brilliant.
“Since I have got into the team, it has been me and him in the middle, and he is a quality player who has played at the highest level.
“The more we can get Jack on the pitch and the more games we play together, it can only benefit the club.
“I think everyone at the club would like to see him extend his stay beyond the end of the season. But if he keeps performing the way he is, I don’t think he will be short of offers in the summer.
“It will be Jack’s decision come the end of the season. But myself and everyone else would love to see him at the club for longer.”
Comments from Forest fans via their top message boards/Nottingham Post:
‘Hopefully with jack having experienced the feeling of being frozen out at a club he would realise the merits of being at a club where he is wanted, needed and loved when he decides his next move.’
‘Top signing! Daren’t even dream about Colback signing in the summer.’
‘He doesn’t get in ahead of Diame or Shelvey, but improves our midfield dramatically.
Seems everyone’s happy, get him signed.’
‘Hopefully he’ll continue to put in the classy performances and look to stay here.’
‘Looks like the midfielder we have been missing.’
‘If Colback is too expensive then we don’t want to be a Prem club.
As part of the recent switch & drive to make us one I fully expect his signing.’
