Alan Shearer had no doubts who deserved to win at St  James Park this afternoon.

Newcastle completely dominant as they beat Southampton 3-0.

Shearer describing it as a ‘great result’.

The win lifts Newcastle to 13th place in the table and 32 points, four above the relegation zone.

Dubravka was very solid, apart from one moment of madness, coming for every cross.

Whilst at the other end Kenedy scored two vital goals on the back of excellent form overall since arriving from Chelsea, Alan Shearer describing him as a ‘great loan signing’.

The stats may say Southampton had 63% but in truth they were woeful, whilst Newcastle could and should have had more, as they dominated chances created.

Southampton now have one win from their last 17 Premier League matches and look in real trouble, as the club that he started his career with, the fact it was the Saints who happened to be the opposition, is the only thing that spoiled Shearer’s day.

Alan Shearer post-match reaction after Newcastle beat Southampton:

“Great result for Newcastle United.

“Kenedy looking like a great loan signing.

“But don’t like seeing Southampton struggling so badly.”

Big Al`s bound to feel for his 1st club & they`ve always tried to play good football but they`ve sold to many good players & not replaced them.

No mixed emotion from me. In the nineties and noughties they were our proper bogey team.

The day my daughter was born had a ticket for the match away but got called to Rake Lane just before was about to set off. When I left the hospital with five minutes to go we were two nil up and when I got to the Black Horse five minutes later it was two two spoilt a really good day so revenge makes me happy.
