5 Newcastle players feature in all-time list of Premier League assists
When it comes to Premier League assists, Newcastle United have had some of the all-time best in the Premier League era.
In total there are now 35 different players who have reached the milestone of 50 PL assists.
Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil became the 35th, when he provided his eighth league assist of the season at the weekend, as the Gunners beat Watford.
I always think Ozil gets an overly tough time for supposedly underachieving but he actually became the quickest ever player to reach 50 Premier League assists.
It took him 141 games, which means that incredibly, on average he gets an assist at better than a rate of once every three games.
There are five former Newcastle players in total who have achieved this feat of 50 PL assists.
Sky Sports have produced this table of the 35 players to reach 50 PL assists and how many games it took them
As you can see, the excellent Nobby Solano is the highest ranking ex-Newcastle player, having reached 50 PL assists in only 178 appearances, the eighth fastest.
Then we have Andy Cole in 19th (255 games) and Alan Shearer in 21st (279 games).
Completing the NUFC contribution, James Milner was 24th fastest (325 games) and Damien Duff 29th (361 games).
