Newcastle United recorded an excellent 2-1 victory over Manchester United on Saturday.
In a game full of incident, the NUFC Under 18 side came out on top, only 24 hours before the two senior sides meet at St James Park.
Young Danish striker Elias Sorensen was brought in by Rafa Benitez 18 months ago and is in great form, today he gave Newcastle a 53rd minute lead, his fifth goal in the last four league matches.
Newcastle could and should have gone further ahead but were denied by the woodwork and then a clear penalty.
With just over 20 minutes to go, Manchester United equalised and then it looked like their comeback was complete when they were awarded a penalty. However, that spot-kick was saved and set up a fantastic finale.
Mace Goodridge grabbing a late winner for Newcastle in added time, to secure an excellent victory against the team who top the Premier League Under 18 league.
A strange season so far for Newcastle’s young stars, as they failed to win any of their first 11 league matches.
However, last month they pulled off a remarkable 5-2 win at Manchester City, then followed up with a 4-1 victory at West Brom.
Today’s 2-1 win over Manchester United meaning it is now three victories in a row.
Hopefully Newcastle’s first team players can take inspiration tomorrow from the NUFC Under 18s gutsy display and result today.
