Newcastle players performance in 2018 according to fans – Average NUFC player ratings
The Newcastle players have seen only one Premier League defeat (at Man City) in 2018.
Picking their form back up, the Newcastle team have scored in all seven matches since the turn of the year.
The two wins and four draws have also seen three clean sheets, lifting NUFC to 15th in the table.
Which individuals though have stood out from the rest?
Each match we ask you (the fans) for your player ratings and it is always interesting to see what the consensus is.
Here below is how the Newcastle players have performed over the course of the last 7 Premier League games in January and February.
The average player rating given by fans over the course of the seven games is before the name, then the number of matches they have started follows each name.
We have only included ratings for the games players have started, as substitute appearance marks often don’t give a viable rating, due to short length of time on the pitch.
8.4 Martin Dubravka (2)
7.7 Jacob Murphy (2)
7.7 Florian Lejeune (2)
7.2 Mohamed Diame (7)
7.0 Jamaal Lascelles (7)
6.9 Kenedy (4)
6.9 Paul Dummett (5)
6.7 Karl Darlow (5)
6.3 Jonjo Shelvey (6)
6.2 Isaac Hayden (1)
6.1 DeAndre Yedlin (6)
6.0 Mikel Merino (1)
6.0 Ciaran Clark (5)
6.0 Matt Ritchie (5)
5.7 Javier Manquillo (2)
5.6 Ayoze Perez (6)
5.3 Dwight Gayle (4)
5.1 Christian Atsu (5)
3.7 Joselu (2)
As you can see, Martin Dubravka (8.4) has made a flying start in his first two matches, unable to do anything with the two late goals at Bournemouth.
Jacob Murphy and Florian Lejeune (both 7.7) are next, each with only two starts in 2018.
A bit of a mystery as to why Murphy hasn’t figured since, these 2018 starts were at Stoke where he made the winner and at Man City where he scored the excellent consolation goal – in both games he was one of Newcastle’s best players – yet he didn’t even make the bench at Bournemouth.
As for Florian Lejeune, he returned against Man Utd and looked more like the player who promised much in pre-season.
You then have players who Rafa is now very much relying on, Mohamed Diame (7.2) and Jamaal Lascelles (7.0), the only two to have started all seven games this calendar year.
Dwight Gayle scored twice but Newcastle’s problems up front summed up by the fact it is four attacking players at the bottom of these 2018 fan ratings, including all three strikers – Islam Slimani yet to start due to injury.
Bad news today on Jonjo Shelvey (6.3) and his knee injury, the fact he had started six of these last seven matches shows how Rafa Benitez has quietly been relying on him once again.
