The Newcastle team v Bournemouth has just been confirmed.

NUFC looking to follow up that win over Man Utd.

Any surprises…?

This is who Rafa Benitez starts with:

Dubravka, Yedlin, Lascelles, Lejeune, Dummett, Ritchie, Shelvey, Diame, Kenedy, Perez, Gayle

and the Subs:

Darlow, Manquillo, Clark, Hayden, Merino, Atsu, Joselu

To no great surprise, Rafa Benitez goes with same again, keeping the 11 who faced Man Utd.

Ciaran Clark returns to the squad after his knock but has to settle for a place on the bench.

A sign of Newcastle’s growing strength in depth, relatively anyway, is that today Murphy can’t even get on the bench.

  • Rich Lawson

Would have had Murphy on the bench rather than Joselu but as a starting line up go out and kill them

    • pedrodelgardo

I want both in – Joselu so that Gayle can run himself into the ground and Murphy to scare them late on.

      • Rich Lawson

No Joselu is to ineffective .Murphy is coming on with every game, let alone being benched. He plays better when being there from the start . Let him and Kennedy put the bullets in for Gayle..Late on usually means we are chasing a result ?

  • Andy Mac

The quality of a team is often judged by its bench. Still two or three players short atm.but first XI should be good enough. HTL

  • Damon Horner

retained a lot of the players who played against ManUtd. Good to see. Howay the lads!

  • Peaky Magpie

    Leicester 1-1 Stoke…..should have kept Slimani…

    • Burt Humperdink

Since Slimani is injured for weeks not sure what you mean by that. Certainly Vardy has scored enough goals this season.

      • Peaky Magpie

        Didn’t put it very well….sarcasm & irony….

        • nufcslf

Endelbert would be disappointed for him not see that.

  • Dave Mitchison

Good goal but Perez is having a shocker

    • Clarko

By “shocker” do you mean that Perez is playing at his usual shocking level?

  • Dave Mitchison

The team looks more confident with Dubravka in goal IMO

    • nufcslf

Strong down the middle is the making of any side. Now all we are lacking is a striker, in this game at least. Gayle trying his best to prove me wrong right now, though.

  • nufcslf

Good start, but 1 will never be enough.

    • Dave Mitchison

      2 might be

      • nufcslf

        Always love beeing proved wrong.

        • Dave Mitchison

          🤣🤣🤣

      • nufcslf

Not even when comes to us.

  • Dingus

    GET IN!

  • robbersdog

2-0 at half-time. Bournemouth will come out all guns blazing, so FFS – let’s hold our nerve and get the win!

    • nufcslf

First 10 mins at the start of the second half will be vital to the final score. All other half time scores looking to our advantage as well.

  • Peaky Magpie

    Dwight to Real Madrid…£85m….

    • nufcslf

Just closing the deal as we write.

      • Peaky Magpie

Fatty’s got his chopper brochure out….

        • nufcslf

          Yeah, sod the hat-trick…..

    • Dingus

You’re getting a bit excited there mate. Massive exaggeration. I hate to dampen your admirable optimism, but let’s be honest, it’ll be closer to £65m.

      • Peaky Magpie

        Aye you’re right I’ve calmed doon…

  • nufcslf

Oh! sh*t, here we go……hold onto your hats.

  • Peaky Magpie

Bye bye Pardew,Pardew bye bye…..needs one of his lads to nick a taxi for him now….

    • Wor Lass

Just signed in – been shovelling Schitte. Literally.

    • Jezza

I wouldn’t be laughing about that, Peaky. From a Newcastle point of view, nothing good can come from Pardew being sacked by West Brom.

      • Mike

? cashley will bring him back to the Toon when we go down/raffa leaves.

        • Jezza

I’d put my house on it.

    • Wor Lass

Think i`ll go back and shovel some more!

      • Peaky Magpie

I’m taking the dogs out before the blizzards arrive ❄️❄️❄️

  • nufcslf

Perez and Shelvey misses looking not so bloody clever

  • ToonTom

Two opportunities missed to go 0-3 up and suddenly it’s 2-2 and we’re clinging on for a point.

    • DC1964

Ridiculous! I knew those misses would come back to haunt us!

  • Dillon Tovak

Atsu really should have done better with that break away, shoot or play in Shelvey earlier. Ffs
    We’ve thrown this game away!

  • DC1964

    Getting battered!

  • ToonTom

10th down to 15th thanks to throwing away a 2-0 lead. This season of all seasons you just can’t afford to be doing that.

    • Peaky Magpie

That could cost us MASSIVELY….Anfield next…😳😳

  • Wor Lass

I don`t usually agree with much that Waugh says on the Chron but that definitely feels like two points dropped not one gained!!

  • ToonTom

Radio 5L is describing Shelvey’s chance at 2-0 as a ‘sitter’. A game we should have won 3-0 ends 2-2. How expensive will that be at the end of the season?

    • DC1964

It was a shocking miss, Perez also missed a sitter.

      • Coach Clagnut

I know Perez made one but his overall contribution is akin to the opposition having an extra man. The amount of times he loses possession is staggering. He has his fair share of niggly fouls that get ignored by the officials but he’s got about as much physical presence as an empty crisp packet.

        • Mike

hees crp everytime i see him on the ball he gets muscled off easy

          • HarryHype59

So why does the sainted one keep selecting him?

  • nufcslf

How the f**k do you not see a game like out. Is it not important enough. Stupid misses again and not even 2 up with 10 mins was enough. F**king pathetic and more evidence fatty’s lack of improving a sh*t squad. Idiot.

    • DC1964

We should have won that comfortably.

      • nufcslf

        Sickening.

  • ToonTom

BBC website: Moments after Jonjo Shelvey missed a brilliant chance at the other end. Adam Smith scores a stunner.
You’ve just got to take your chances!

  • Geordiegiants

That was nearly guaranteed prem safety..

  • Asen Aleksiev

    this is really pathetic

tired of watching it every single season
    just go down for sake

    • nufcslf

It’s where it will end up, if not this season then possibly next. These results make it even harder to stomach. Only saving grace for me, is if fatty is still around come next season I won’t be watching or looking for results any way.

      • Geordiegiants

        Same here.

        • Coach Clagnut

          Ditto. Soul destroying.

      • Mike

aye club will be worth £1 if we go down

  • robbersdog

We dropped 5 league places in the space of ten minutes! This is just awful, it feels like a loss and we’re still in deep relegation sh*t.

    • Peaky Magpie

      Could well be season defining…

      • robbersdog

        You’re right; it’s a huge psychological blow.

  • Andy Mac

Er someone needs to refer this lot to the game management manual ! Two points given away needlessly.

    • Mxpx

      Third time in 4 games

  • scumtest

Feels like a defeat. That gosling goal has p****d me right off! Gutted

  • Coach Clagnut

Poor decisions all over the pitch 2nd half. Midfield pretending they’re Citeh by trying to play short one-twos but losing the ball and slow thinking and slower feet up front.
I thought we’d left the sloppy and casual passing behind after the ManUre result but I guess old habits die hard.

  • Geordiegiants

That’s probably just blown any chance of an early take over.

  • Leicester Mag

Supporting Newcastle the football equivalent of a kick in the knavkers.

    • Coach Clagnut

      Several decades of it.

    • Mike

      have u got knackers left…….

      • paul mclaughlan

Thats my excuse to the girls.

  • ToonTom

0-2 up with 15 mins to go (added time) IS a defeat! Okay, you get a point (and it’s a point more than I was expecting) but it’s a defeat in the way it wastes your hopes and ruins what should have been a brilliant Saturday night. Sickening. Did Huddersfield bottle it at 1-2 at West Brom? No, of course they didn’t. They saw the game out in the way we shouldn’t have had to!

    • Mrkgw

Agreed. Rafa the magicial? Nope. And we need Ashley and his sidekick gone. Despicabl bunch.

  • Mxpx

6 points dropped parking the bus in our last 4 games there would be no relegation threat if we could close games out

    • nufcslf

With Cashley in the shadows, relegation will always be a threat and not only from the prem.

  • Coach Clagnut

Looking to put a bit of perspective on an otherwise thoroughly depressing result, I reckon we’d all have been happy with the 4 points off the last 2 games if truth be told.

    • ToonTom

Yep, I had us down for null points from the last two games so absolutely no arguing that 4 points from them is little short of a miracle, but it’s just the way it turns the knife inside you when you sit there at 1-2 whilst Huddersfield are 1-2 at West Brom and you just KNOW which result is not going to end 1-2.

      • Coach Clagnut

After we went 2 up I thought if we can get to 89 minutes we might win this.

    • Danimal

That’s true. Days like today are deflating but the fact is we’ve had a decent points-per-game over a long period of time. Unfortunately that nine match “blip” in the middle has ruined it. Trying to be positive/have some perspective but still feeling utterly p*ssed off right now.

    • MinnesoToon

Not for me. That felt worse than the two points we threw away at Southampton early in the year. How many points is that now lost from winning positions?

      • Coach Clagnut

No excuse for complacency. Southampton was down to an individual bollockdrop but this was collective guilt.
Keep giving the ball away with sloppy and casual passing and it will eventually bite you right on ya balloon knot.
Control the football and you control the game.

  • Peaky Magpie

F*ck knows what’ll happen at Liverpool next week…..I’ll be going out for the day or maybe even the whole weekend…

    • Coach Clagnut

      Definitely hitting the drink.

  • ToonTom

Check out the Chronicle website by the way – its headline currently reads (extremely optimistically): “Newcastle United press conference LIVE – Rafa Benitez’s thoughts after Bournemouth win”

    • Leazes.

You beat me to it…. how long before they notice?

      • ToonTom

        It’s now 5.39pm and it’s still there …

  • Mrkgw

Fed up with this side, the whole club in fact. Lets face it, following Newcastle is grim at the moment. There isn”t a recession across football but surprise surprise, there is at our club. Ultimately, Ashley is chief culprit and quite rightly, he is absolutely despised by the faithful.

  • ToonTom

Here’s a Twitter feed from Bournemouth:
    “Alex Crook @alex_crook
#afcb fans owe Jonjo Shelvey a beer. Missed a sitter at 2-0 seconds before Adam Smith scored to spark the Cherries comeback”
This is what kills you, not the 2-2 – it’s the fact that we had the opportunity to finish the game off and we just never do. We’ve scored two goals in the Premiership a handful of times this season and thrown away games we should have controlled. Both seasons we went down recently, this was exactly what we did.
It just puts you through the mill, every time.

  • Mike

    BGGGR blew it

  • ToonTom

Just seen the highlights on SKY app and – interestingly – they showed the Perez miss and not the Shelvey miss. The Perez miss was absolutely stonewall dreadful so if the Shelvey miss was worse (and it was according to reports) then maybe SKY felt it was too horrible to show before the 9pm watershed.

    • nufcslf

Shelvey one was worse with them making 2-1 a minute later.

      • Coach Clagnut

Not helped by Atsu dithering before releasing the ball. Gave their defender time to make a challenge which was enough.
        Bad miss though but.

        • nufcslf

True, but pure determination not to miss and kill the game should have been his only thought. Same with Perez’s wimpy little flick. Make bloody sure.

          • Coach Clagnut

Can’t argue with that mate. We lack in loads of ways overall.

  • nufcslf

The even bigge bugr being Liverpool won’t be as generous next week and will win easy.

    • Leazes.

They generally put four past lowly teams.

      • nufcslf

Even when we were good enough to score 3.

        • Coach Clagnut

          Ouch.

  • kingfisher

Typical Newcastle United performance. How on earth can they stop one of the best teams in Europe from scoring and win 1-0, yet they can’t hold on to a 2-0 lead with 10 minutes to go against Bournemouth ?It absolutely beggars belief.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

They gave up the midfield again & Benitez thought the points were in the bag

      • Coach Clagnut

I doubt Benitez ever assumes anything until the game ends. Now the players, that’s a different kettle of fish.

  • ToonTom

Chelsea 0, Bournemouth 3 was a massive result for the Cherries a few weeks ago.
Bournemouth 0, Newcastle 3 should have been a massive result for the Magpies today.
One team took its chances (and did again today) and another didn’t and 0-3 ended up 2-2. It would be hard to imagine us even having this conversation 10 years ago (no disrespect to Bournemouth intended) but under-investment in the Premiership is also unforgiving to those who risk it.

    • Coach Clagnut

If we stay up I reckon there’s worse to come in the close season. Fatty was quoted recently as saying he’s spending nowt on the team from hereon-in.
Also, when asked how much he’d be hit in the pocket if we get relegated he said ” I make more money in the Premier League “.
Relegation means sweet F.A. to the parasite as he still mints it even in the Championship.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Shocking, watched whole game here in Spain 🇪🇸We were strolling home
Bournemouth weren’t in it until the last quarter, Benitez tactics lost us 2 points.

    • nufcslf

The Richie sub especially seemed poorly timed to me and did lead to trouble.

      • Coach Clagnut

I think he took Ritchie off in case he got another booking. He was exceptionally gobby the day and it got him a yellow. Love the passion but a stupid booking nonetheless.

        • nufcslf

Could very well be right. Probably not an option on the bench, but an attacking one rather than a defensive one would have been nice. Bournmouth never looked like scoring a goal today and wouldn’t if we kept the ball. A lot of substitutions in modern day football just don’t need to be done. It’s almost become trendy and something to do, rather than having to do and like today didn’t protect a certain 3 points…lost 2 instead.

          • Coach Clagnut

2 lost indeed. We’ve known all season we have a weak squad.
Now we’re at the business end of it we’ll see either how weak they are or how determined they want to be.

    • Coach Clagnut

Nah. Poor decisions by basically championship standard players ( for the most part ) has been our downfall all season.

  • ToonTom

Ultimately, it’s heart-breaking – no denying that, and our weekeknds are ruined again (I’m obviously meaning this in a footballing context, by the way). If we avoid relegation, none of these many many dropped points will matter. Will we avoid relegation? Impossible to say (of course), but I’ve run a run-in predictor since January and only once had us in the bottom three (it was because of an eraly kick-off elsewhere) and we got out of it by beating Man Utd which was obviously very unexpected. Heartbreaking as it was today, I reckon we’re one win (West Brom at home?) and five draws (Soton, Huddersfield, Arsenal, Chelsea at home, Watford away?) from likely safety with West Brom, Swansea, and Stoke going down.
Out of interest, whilst waiting for the Ronnie Gill to finally spot that we hadn’t won today, I did their relegation predictor and that also came out as 37 points and safe with Stoke in 18th place on 34 points.
So I still think we’ll survive, but it’s always the hope that kills you, isn’t it? Instead of being able to enjoy this crazy relegation scarp from a place safely above it, we’re in it and it’s going to the wire and therefore the thought of eventual safety is only just enough to keep you sane when you see your team throw away points which are easier won.

    • nufcslf

Your predictor has just made Cashley a very happy man

      • ToonTom

Can’t help that. As much as I’m desperate for him to leave us, I’ll never want us to be relegated. It’s only the pain and broken hope of following Newcastle United that makes people say it on here.

        • nufcslf

Not likely, but we can only hope Cashley does f**k off at the end of the season if we stay up. If this season does end in relegation. Sunderland here we come is what will happen.

  • relaxed

Who says that we are a premiership team ?
From what i seen today we are nothing but a fukcing disgrace
How Perez even gets a game is beyond me
You should hang your head in shame Ashley I would rather be in the Championship if it meant getting rid of a fukcing slug like you out of our club I hope that you choke on your own vomit
