Alan Shearer talks ahead of Newcastle’s match at Bournemouth

Alan Shearer says the bottom half of the Premier League is ‘incredibly tight’.

Only six points currently separate Bournemouth in 10th and Stoke in 19th.

The Newcastle legend points out that if Newcastle follow up a ‘magnificent result and performance’ to beat Manchester United, then they will automatically go above Bournemouth, the gap currently three points and the Cherries only one goal better off on goal difference.

Regardless of today, Alan Shearer doesn’t think Bournemouth will be in trouble at the end of the season.

After picking up only 16 points in the first 19 matches, they then picked up 15 points from a possible 21, before crashing 4-1 at Huddersfield in their last game.

Shearer believes that Rafa Benitez’ team will have ‘huge confidence’ after beating Man Utd and they need to ‘carry that good work on’.

In the 70 days since losing at Arsenal, Newcastle have only lost to Manchester City in the Premier League, though they have found it difficult to score goals and relied a lot on the discipline that Jamaal Lascelles helps to instil at the back.

A massive blow that Islam Slimani is ruled out once again, it was Matt Ritchie who stepped up last time with a fast goal of the season, who can do the job this afternoon?

Alan Shearer speaking to Coral:

“The bottom half of the table is incredibly tight.

“It was a magnificent result and performance from Newcastle to beat Manchester United at St James Park.

“They have to carry that good work on.

“It should give them huge confidence that result, going to Bournemouth.

“If Newcastle were to beat Bournemouth they could actually go above them and Bournemouth are in 10th. That tells you how tight it is down at the bottom.

“I think Bournemouth will have enough, I don’t think Bournemouth will be in trouble come the end of the season.

“Having said that, it is still a huge game for both clubs.

“As I said, if Newcastle beat them, they go above them.

“Three points against any tea at this stage is vital and it would be a huge three points for both clubs.”
