Stoke 0 Newcastle 1 – Monday 1 January 2018 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.

Consecutive away wins for Newcastle United!

Jamie Swan:

“You beauty. Deserved three points against a scabby team and a manager that I wouldn’t tire of slapping across the mush with a wet kipper.

“How’s that then Hughesy? Stick that in your pottered pipe and smoke it. You’ll need a new hobby when you are on the dole tomorrow.

“By the way, can we play away every week? Great performance.

“Murphy is growing in confidence and was great. But I’ll be honest, I think everyone was at least an 8 out of ten today (yes even Diame).

“Big Karl Darlow pulled off some moves with arms and legs like Inspector Gadget to stop a couple of certain (massively undeserved) goals. Hats off to you son.

“Lascelles and Clark are definitely our best CB pairing and look rock solid, shame Clarky missed an open goal from one yard out! How did he miss?

“Luckily it didn’t bite us on the bum and we can win without referees giving us penalties! Just as well like.

“This is 100% something to build on.

“This is 100% the way we need to play. Well done lads, well done Rafa. Triumph in mother chuffing adversity.

“ASHLEY out.”

Ben Cooper:

“Great win that.

“Another defensively sound, hard-working performance by a team that seems much more comfortable playing away from SJP.

“For the first 80 minutes we kept their better players quiet and attacked with purpose and intent which meant we created chances.

“Unlike the Brighton game, all of our attacking players contributed something, Perez and Murphy probably had their best games of the season, Atsu was always a threat despite missing some good chances and the others all made a contribution, even if they were not consistently in the game.

“In midfield Diame continued his gradual upward curve alongside an industrious Shelvey and the pair always had the upper hand in the centre.

“At the back, Clark and Lascelles were magnificent defensively, if not in front of goal, and the full backs worked hard and defended tirelessly.

“We limited Stoke to long range shots until the last 10 minutes, when they lumped it up to C3PO and Darlow made a couple of worldies.

“They should have scored near the end, no doubt Mark Hughes will whinge about that as he searches for the nearest dole office.

“He probably won’t say that the best team won today, so I will say it for him. The best team won today.”

Toon Bano:

“Get in there you beauty!!!!

“That was a game we had to win after the Brighton debacle.

“Fair play to Murphy, he was shocking first half but stepped up when needed.

“Perez continues to prove to be a key player for us when he is used. He is inconsistent but we don’t have massive options up top.

“Finally, a day of results that go our way.

“Happy New Year!!!!”

Jamie Smith:

“Tremendous result that puts a different perspective on recent weeks, although the chances to bury it seemed to have gone (Clark’s miss – aargh)

“If this is an omen for 2018 hopefully it’s gonna be a good one, some critical breathing space between us and the bottom ahead of a crucial home game with Swansea (looking for a third double of the season – crackers).

“Hopefully by then we’ll have some essential new faces….”

Nat Seaton:

“What a win!!!!

“Started 2018 with a MASSIVE 3 points.

“Going home feeling great (even though still a bit concerned about having only 22 points!!).

“Happy New Year…”

George Stainsby:

“Hope. It’s what football season’s are built on, and what this result gives us.

“Mike Ashley, look at the numbers; buy some players, get loads of TV money.”

Paul Lyon:

“What a result! Much needed!

“Seems we’re a better prospect away from home at the moment.

“Pleased for Rafa and the lads, delighted for the away end today!”

David Punton:

“It’s been a tough time for Rafa Benitez lately, so I’m pleased for him.

“He got a lot of stick for the Man City and Brighton displays but he’s kept going and he got it right today.

“That the goal came from Ayoze Perez is even better, as it’s high time he notched and justified his inclusion in the team instead of Gayle.

“Plaudits also to Karl Darlow for a brilliant point blank save to preserve the slender lead we’d taken.

“The stats show this was a game we deserved to win and the denial of a penalty kick was tough to take.

“Thankfully we have gone on and scored a nice goal on the break. Jacob Murphy showing good pace, before centring for Perez to stab the ball home.

“Happy new year!”

Jack Lacey-Hatton:

“Incredible win.

“Startlingly good performance after what happened on Saturday.

“Perez finished like a poacher and has deserved to be the match winner after his effort in recent games.

“Need the belief to keep growing now ahead of bigger tests to come.”

Paul Patterson:

“The points are all that matters.

“Here’s to the takeover.

“Here’s to the future.

“Here’s to Newcastle fans everywhere.

“Happy new year.”

  • robbersdog

A Stoke fan has just called TalkSport to demand that Hughes be sacked; he then said that his first choice as a replacement manager would be Benitez. Dream on fool!

    • anyobrien

      Lmfao

    • Danimal

Fatty would let him go if they offered the money.

      • robbersdog

I can’t imagine Benitez at Stoke; it’s a bit downmarket for him. Newcastle may not be a top 6 side, but we still have that veneer of ‘big club’ glamour that Stoke lacks.

  • 1957

Mike will no doubt be thinking “…why do we need new players…” we can save the money, make do and mend, stay up and I can get a top price for the club at the end of the season.

    • Gary McCarron

      So true 1957.

    • Jezza

Yes but he has been thinking that ever since last summer anyway.

  • gallowgate26

This man is performing miracles with an inferior team in this league. Time and time again he proves his doubters wrong. If we stay up this season it will have been an amazing achievement. We are desperate for a striker like Batshuayi on loan.

    • Gary McCarron

Don’t get carried away…..”performing miracles? we beat Stoke who are struggling as much as we are and their Manager will be sacked tomorrow”
Now come on… we’re pleased but get real

      • Gary McCarron

BTW I’m happy that we won before I get slated…

      • HarryHype59

Agreed, Rafa is doing reasonably well this season and no more! His buys
in the summer have been no better than those players already here!

Those who worship at the alter of St. Rafa are getting carried away again!

    • Gary McCarron

If Rafa is performing miracles how would you describe Wagner and Hughton’s achievements?

      • gallowgate26

I’ve never rated Hughton and didn’t when watching that dross championship side the other day either, that an even half decent Newcastle team of old, with a goalscorer like Ba or Remy would have rightfully taken three points against. Hughton got promoted with PL players like Barton, Nolan and Andy Carroll. Who did Rafa have?(apart from Gayle). Wagner is doing well but they spent a lot more money than us in the summer, got their striker target and we got Joselu. He got promoted with about 6 good loan signings, including Mooy from Manchester City. You can’t seriously compare either of those two, to what Rafa has achieved, either throughout his career, or now….?

        • steve

Rafa had Ritchie, Shelvey and a very good pair of centre backs, not winning the championship would have been ridiculous.

          • Buck Blacket

Tell that to Villa, Middlesbrough, Norwich, Sunderland, Hull……the list goes on but you get the idea.

          • steve

None of them have a squad close to what we had last year.

          • Jezza

On paper Aston Villa were much stronger than us last season and Middlesborouigh are stronger on paper this season than our current Premiership squad.

          • Buck Blacket

That’s just not true though. Rafa spent less than he brought in but most of the players he did buy were inspired like Gayle, Clark and Ritchie. That was down to Rafa. Just look how badly some of those “big clubs” are struggling down there, give the man some credit!

          • steve

“Most” is a stretch, the expensive ones did well as expected and the rest were pretty awful.

          • Buck Blacket

The “expensive one’s” got us promoted, end of. By the way, are you suggesting that every player a club signs is and should be a guaranteed success? That just doesn’t happen at ANY club. Some of the biggest and most expensive signings in the game have flopped at various clubs at various times for a number of different reasons so your point is rather churlish.

          • steve

No, I’m suggesting that the majority of our signings under Benitez have been woeful and that none of them have been “inspired” with the possible exception of Merino. Ritchie and Gayle were proven players at Championship level, we paid big money for them and they performed well.

Selz, Gamez, Manquillo, Lazaar, Hanley, Diame, D Murphy and Joselu are all well below the level required and the jury is still out on J Murphy and Lejeune, that is a shocking strike rate by anyone’s standards.

          • Buck Blacket

I’ll have one more go through it’s almost certainly a waste of time. It’s rather amusing that you have changed your opinion of the squad just to further your argument. Your original point was Rafa couldn’t fail with the squad he had but NOW, all of a sudden they were mostly all rubbish lol. How does that work? For a manager who has spent minus £20.5 million he’s done a pretty good job wouldn’t you agree? Of course it was never his intention to make a profit, that was circumstantial due to fatso’s double dealing. He was never given the financial backing (as promised) to inject the quality needed so he has been forced to take a punt on some players that he wouldn’t have considered given the circumstances he was expecting.

          • steve

I think he’s done the bare minimum expected of him considering his reputation and the resources available to him.

          • Buck Blacket

What resources are you referring to? Did you miss the bit about Rafa making a profit of £20.5 million on player sales and purchases, not by design but by circumstances beyond his control. Anyway, about the squad, you can’t make a point about it being the best meaning promotion was inevitable then your next point is that the squad was actually rubbish…… it just makes me think you have a massive axe to grind against Benitez for reasons I can’t fathom.

          • Kneebotherm8

            Exactly.

          • Jezza

I disagree. We weren’t the best team in the Championship last season. Brighton, Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday all looked better than us and Ritchie and Shelvey aren’t in the same league as some of the players we had last time in the Championship.

          • Kneebotherm8

Villa should have been second then?…………they struggled mid table, what happened to them?

          • HarryHype59

Villa were by far the worst of the three EPL teams that got relegated in the 2015-16 season finishing 20th! As such they were always going to struggle to adapt in the Championship, just like our chums down the road are!

          • Kneebotherm8

It’s a struggle to adapt for any relegated premier league team and they spent more than us trying to do it,unsuccessfully.
They basically cleared the deadwood out, just like us,spent a load of money, with a wage bill to suit, and never even mounted a promotion challenge.

          • HarryHype59

The wage bill at NUFC was also four times higher than that of Brighton and Huddersfield according to Fleckman! Neither club spent any where near the £50m Rafa was given last year!

I think Rafa is doing a decent job this season and nothing more! This absurd deification of Saint Rafa of Benetiz is laughable!

        • Gary McCarron

          Interesting reply gallowgate……..all about opinions.
I suppose when you look at Rafa, Wagner and Chris you would put Rafa top of the pile as you suggest but for me Rafa should be “streets” ahead for us compared to the other two but we’re not…….enigma.

          • gallowgate26

He can only put out the players he’s got. We didn’t even start with a striker today. Yes I get your point that both Brighton and Huddersfield are above us, neither are ‘safe’ yet although they have winnable ones next, as do we. Both made better (sensible?) preparations in the summer, I think you’d agree that Rafa wasn’t given the players that he needed in the summer.

          • Gary McCarron

            “unsubscribe”

          • Gary McCarron

My “Gary McCarron” poster is currently under my partners email which I have tried to delete but she is still receiving email notifications hence the “unsubscribe”. Not sure what to do next????

      • glassjawsh-got-banned

any team in the premiership would be happy with Wagner in the dugout. He’ll be on the touchline for a champions league side in the top 5 leagues before his career is over.

      • Jezza

Wagner and Hughton are doing very well but they both got much bigger transfer budgets than Rafa in the summer.

    • nufcslf

I want to agree, but 2 wins in 14 isn’t performing miracles…its relegation if it continues…and you have to sh*t yourself that the team that won a huge match today will have all the wrong negative changes made to it for Saturday. It happened after the West Ham win for no reason. All for being proved wrong and today should have been a comfortable 4 nil win. A happy start to the New Year for all that bleed black and white.

      • Kneebotherm8

Its relegation we were looking at before the season started,or a relegation struggle.

        • Geordiegiants

          Still is.

      • Geordiegiants

It was always going to be difficult, I can’t believe even after our good start, that anyone thought we would comfortably survive this league, from day one it was always going to be like this, a handful of of points separates the bottom half every year now.

      • Jimmy_toons

but we’ve just lost 1 in 4, which isn’t relegation form. You decide to choose whichever statistics to suit your argument, but I think 16 more points will keep us up which will not be easy but if we can get 4 or more decent signings in, I think staying up is achievable.

        • Gary McCarron

Absolutely, “In Rafa we trust?” zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    • Jezza

13th place in the Premiership with a Championship squad is remarkable. All credit to Rafa.

  • Natturner26

    5 things I learned:

    1. Stoke look to be going down despite pulling off one of the biggest transfer coups of the year by getting five million pounds for Joselu.

    2. I’m guilty of sometimes having a go at Rafa before the first ball is kicked but that’s because he usually starts Joselu. Today I thought he got it right. When your only prolific striker of the two you use is Gayle who is prolific in diving, the obvious solution is to play six midfielders and to let them have a go at the opposition. That is what Rafa did and it worked. Would be happy to see similar lineups in the near future, at least until we sign a striker.

    3. The captain is the most important player in this team. He has improved immensely since we signed him. He is a natural leader and works his socks off.

    4. Ayoze is underrated by most fans. He’s not perfect but the fans sound idiotic when they moan about how none of our players our premiership quality including Ayoze. Most of the team is premiership quality. Not Joselu certainly. But Ayoze is valuable despite being a subtle player. He tracks back, is good on the break, and has a goal in him.

    5. I’m not the biggest Diame fan but he’s also underrated by most fans. Yes, he’s a bit too slow and clunky, but according to our fans he is the worst Newcastle player to ever wear the shirt. He looked solid today and against West Ham, helping us earn 6 points that could save our season. I’m no SJW and get annoyed at the young folks moaning incessantly about racism and sexism, but I can’t help but wonder if race is the reason Diame has been treated so harshly.

    • robbersdog

…I can’t help but wonder if race is the reason Diame has been treated so harshly.

You are completely wrong! All of our players are judged by the same two criteria – ability and effort, and Diame is no different.

      • Clarko

        What about performance?

      • Gary McCarron

Although Diame is the next Sissoko this has nothing to do with Natturner’s presumption towards “race”….disappointing Natturner that your reasonable attempt to be measured in your thoughts went in to an unnecessary racist comment. Lost credibility I’m afraid?

        • robbersdog

I think that Sissoko is more naturally gifted than Diame, but Diame is prepared to put a shift in, whereas Sissoko always played like he wanted to be somewhere else.

        • Natturner26

Maybe you are right but I wouldn’t call my comment racist. I tried to be measured. Typically I would be irked at a comment such as mine as I think much of the race/sex talk is silly and does more harm than good. But I was thinking why is Diame picked on so much when he is similarly limited as other players. So I can’t help but wonder if it is race. I’m not saying I know it’s race or even think it’s race, I just wonder. Probably not worth mentioning the race thing maybe you are right.

          • Buck Blacket

Going by that logic all i can say is thank god Joselu isn’t black for all the abuse he gets on here! lol

          • Gary McCarron

Indeed BB, I think we will all agree with that comment lol

          • Gary McCarron

Respect your response. Moving on I agree with your other thoughts

          • Albert Stubbins

He’d picked because he’s nearly always absolute pants!! End of.

          • Geordiegiants

Comments like yours turn centre people to the right because it gets right up there noses. There is another proper left wing lunatic on here, you lot wind people up the wrong way and turn them racist.

          • Jezza

I fail to see your logic. A non racist person isn’t going to become racist as a result of being wrongly accused of racism. They are going to turn their anger on the person who wrongly accused them rather than on black people.

          • Geordiegiants

No I disagree, people in the middle are pushed to the side (right) If people are constantly going on about you can’t do this or say that etc etc, they feel angry at the system. Some of the things that people call racism aren’t even racist, it gets thrown around like confetii these days. Look at Trevor Sinclair today for argument sake, he tried and would of got away with it if he could. This is why the likes of Britain first are getting bigger and bigger as the days go by, its not just a race thing it’s the same with women’s rights, lgbt rights etc. When people feel like they have had their right of freedom of speech taken away they look for someone to blame they become angry. It’s the age old thing, when your told you can’t do something, what do you do? Extreme left wing is becoming the law, it’s equally as bad as right wing. People are who they are, we can’t ake away inate feelings or physical strength etc, and we shouldn’t be telling people how they should think, rightly or wrongly.

          • Jezza

You have got a very strange view of the world if that’s the way you think. People who are not bigots are not going to become bigots. What is happening is bigots are becoming emboldened by the society we live in and are encouraged to be more open about their vile views. Freedom of speech these days is just a charter to express racist and bigoted opinions. I don’t see people being forced towards the left. Quite the opposite in fact. In this country we have got an unelected prime minister who is reapidly becoming the voice of the far right and propped up by a bunch of far right terrorists. It is a very sad world where being tolerant and treating all people equally is considered extremist instead of the normal decent thing to do.

          • Geordiegiants

Jezza I personally am centre to slight right and am an atheist. I have a multi national family, I live in a multi national street, my next door neighbour who is a Muslim is a good friend and he is unbelievably right wing, the point Im trying to get at is, people on the far left can say what they want without fear of incrimination, people to the slight right can’t debate even a none racist issue without being called a racist.
I have one question for you it’s a yes or no answer only, there is nothing racist or xenophobic in this question it’s just a yes or no answer?
Does this country let lunatics in from backward countries?

          • Jezza

I find it the other way round. For example a few months ago on another internet forum there was a discussion about hundreds of millions of Pounds of tax payers money being spent on the refurbishment of Buckingham Palace. I expressed my view that it was all wrong and that the money should be spent on tackling homelessness and poverty in this country. Other posters on the forum rounded on me calling me everything from a traitor to a Marxist. Nobody came forward to support my freedom of speech. On the other hand if I had made some crass ludicicrous sweeping generalisation about people of the Islamic faith and terrorism they would have been queueing up to defend my right to free speech.

I know a 76 year old woman who was arrested and man handled by the police for handing out anti fracking leaflets in a town centre. A few weeks later a far right race hate group were handling out leaflets in the same spot and the police left them alone.

As for your question I don’t know where to begin. It looks like something you’ve got from an editorial in The Scum or a U.K.I.P. election leaflet. As far as I’m concerened Britain is a backward country itself with more than enough of its own lunatics.

          • Geordiegiants

Yeah your view was battered down on a forum, it was probably a right wing forum. I agree the right are bad but so is being to far left. I never mentioned anything about any race, religion or any other group in my statement, it’s just people on the left jump in and assume. I made a statement and a left wing extremist automatically assumes what he wants, exactly the same as you just have. Our county is a forward thinking county as we look after people and give everyone a basic human right. North Korea is a backward country as it’s a dictatorship. Why does every single person assume every single time people are calling one certain group, it’s just so wrong how you left wingers bahave and make out everyone without your belief is a racist.

          • Geordiegiants

So why do they all want to come here then if that’s the case?
I never mentioned a race or religion or any group at all and there you go, proving my point thank you!

          • Geordiegiants

Because basically, people like to be able to debate, not to be called a racist if they don’t agree with everything left. Some things these days are classed as racist when in reality they aren’t, the word is thrown around like confetti from the hard line left if they simply don’t agree with something. It’s just far to easy to call somebody racist for having an opinion these days.
I bet my house Trevor Sinclair doesn’t get it half as bad as if the shoe was on the other foot.

    • Geordiegiants

Don’t be so ridiculous, FFS, that is probably the most pathetic thing said on here.

    • gallowgate26

Someone wrote an article saying that Lascelles is our only player that a top half PL club might want to sign. I think they were right, elsewhere only possibly West Ham might want to sign Shelvey but they are even worse than us.

      • Natturner26

Good point. Possibly Yedlin, Merino, and Mbemba as well. But those are not certainties and beyond that no way.

      • Mitros gotta start

        Spuds want him too

    • TheNutJob

Race, don`t be so stupid ! dear oh dear

      • gallowgate26

Exactly, Atsu is one of the most popular players.

    • Buck Blacket

Your fifth point is ridiculous. Players like Sir Les and Tino were loved at this club and still are, give your head a shake!

    • Wor Lass

Iwas with you until the end of no 5 – you`re wide of the mark there.

    • glassjawsh-got-banned

I’ve been accused of being a radical leftist on this board before (by people who don’t know what that term means…) and even I don’t see how the grief SloMo gets for his performances has anything to do with his skin color. If he was from Dublin or Detroit and he still moved like molasses the only insult he’d be spared is the catchy nickname.

      • Geordiegiants

You are your a complete left wing loony. I’m surprised your not backing him.

        • glassjawsh-got-banned

don’t you have a Klan meeting you’re late for?

    • Jezza

Ponit number 5 must be the most downright crass idiotic moronic thing I have ever read on this forum. You want to be ashamed of yourself making that prepostrerous slur against your fellow Newcastle fans.

      • Geordiegiants

These left wing fruit cakes make people angry and cause division, they are just as bad as right wing extremists, and should be dealt with in exactly the same way.

        • Jezza

I have been actively involved in anti racist campaigning since the late 70’s and I was very offended by that comment. For someone to suggest that fans criticism of Diame could be in any way racialy motivated suggests to me that the guy who made the comment must be a bit racist himself deep down.

          • Danimal

Do you have to be left wing if you are anti-racism? As for the whole country being forced to turn left, have I misunderstood the results of various elections since 2010? Jezza, apparently it is Social Justice Warrior.

          • Jezza

I agree entirely. There’s absolutely nothing political about being anti-racism, it’s just common human decency to treat all people equally, Thanks for clearing up my SJW question.

          • Mike

Agree 100% total tosh best players for the town included Sir Les and Andy Cole we loved em!

    • HarryHype59

For gawds sake don’t turn the Mag into a version of the Newcastle Evening Commie Gill! That sorry rag is over run with lefty SJW types seeing “waythism” in every thing.

      • Jezza

        What is SJW? Genuine question.

        • Dillon Tovak

          Social justice warrior.

          • Jezza

Thanks that’s a new one for me. Doesn’t seem such a bad thing to be truthful.

        • HarryHype59

          Social Justice Warrior!

They are an off shoot of hard-line Marxist groups like the Socialist Workers Party!

          • Jezza

Well there has always been a lot of social injustice in this country and time and time again it has been the working class people of the North East that have taken the brunt of that social injustice. Is it such a bad thing to campaign against it?

          • HarryHype59

The SJW don’t care about WC people in the NE bud! In fact they openly despise us for rejecting madcap cultural Marxism!

      • Geordiegiants

The whole country is being forced to turn left, and it’s becoming illegal to think other wise. It’s just as bad as far right in my opinion.

    • Phil

Can’t even question some bodies footballing ability without being called a racist now!! F#ck off man

  • TheNutJob

7 points out of 12 if i`m correct, not bad going. i hope nobody tells Fatty

    • Gary McCarron

He’s not interested in us so wouldn’t care what the score would be anyway…

      • TheNutJob

        Money,
we win a few & the tills slammed shut & it be go with what you`ve got

      • Jezza

Very true, Fatty probably never even looks at the team’s results, he’s only interested in how much money he is making from the club.

    • HarryHype59

” 7 arter 12 points, Nuffink wrong wuv da team”

  • HarryHype59

Good win today. Just hope Rafa fields an unchanged team against Swansea!

    • Mitros gotta start

You have more chance of the fat pig opening his wallet for a new striker

  • stevetoontoon

Hughes’s face a picture boo hoo…. no wonder stoke fans want rid…. he watched a different game

  • Looks like Diame is the man to play in the middle, played his socks off against City and Stoke. Should experiment with him and Merino/Shelvey and keep rotating, as Hayden is clearly not capable of creating or scoring chances, since he had a few clear ones today. A winger, fullback, holding midfielder and a striker are needed, but would be glad if we just get a striker and holding midfielder.

    • Soldier

Diame will be sold, he woke up when Rafa put him on the list but it`s to late he just can`t do it consistantly

    • Mitros gotta start

Wonder what saivet did to deserve getting dropped….oh thats right…he wasnt signed by Rafa

      • Chris

Come here, looking for joy from our fans after a tough period. Of course you’re here moaning about Saivet. Give your head a shake.

        • Mitros gotta start

Genuine question…Rafas treatment of players is staggering….no wonder none of his former players have anything nice to say about him

          • Phil

Can’t be treating them that badly? Whoever he puts on the pitch they seem to run and fight for him. Even if they are lacking quality at least they fight for him.
He can’t be that bad to work for

      • If he hadn’t scored that FK goal you would not be speaking like that for sure.

  • 5floorshigh

team performance was pathetic !…….lazy, sloppy, brainless and clueless in the last third……….Darlow our best player against a very poor Stoke team, says it all really !

    • Phil

Is your name referring to the height you fell from to make you such an idiot?? 🛎 End

      • Kneebotherm8

Landed on his heed aaaahhh think……

      • 5floorshigh

        twas a long fall…..but idiot ???……ouch !

    • Mike

      go back and support SAFC

  • gallowgate26

Get in, can look foward to the FA cup game now on Saturday and hope for a positive 2018, as a PL club. That’s part one of the two must win games out of the way, if we can get 18 points from Stoke, West Ham and Swansea, that’s half the points we need from 3 clubs!

  • hetonmag

I’ve said it before and I will say it again people are to eager to write player’s off, take the boy Murphy ok he hasn’t set the world alight but there’s a player in there it’s just a matter of getting it out of him. Then there’s Manquilo loads on this forum have slagged him off but I tell you what Atsu play’s better with him than Dummett, maybe if you can merge the two together you would have a cracking LB.

    • HarryHype59

“He hasn’t set the world alight”

Too true! He is showing signs of improvement, however he has been poor for the reputed £12m paid for him! I still argue that his fee should have been used to bring in a better quality CF!

      • Phil

I agree that the Murphy and Joselu money should of went on a proven striker. But it didn’t so we just need to hope Murphy comes good. To be fair I don’t know if 17 mill would get you much these days anyway. Prices are crazy especially for strikers

        • HarryHype59

Lejourne, Manky, Murphy and Hoss, cost around £30m! That money could have bought us an EPL quality striker!
