Sky Sports, amongst others, confirmed on Tuesday evening the loan move of Kenedy from Chelsea to Newcastle United.

After two transfer windows where Mike Ashley has badly undermined Rafa Benitez, it has taken 23 days into this January one for even a loan signing of a 21 year old Chelsea squad player to happen. This loan signing first reported over six months ago.

This was despite Rafa Benitez stating in December that he needed all signings to made ideally by 15 January and at the very latest, 20 January.

Sky Sports are seen by most Newcastle fans to be far too close to Mike Ashley and have accommodated a number of embarrassing ‘interviews’ with the Newcastle United owner, allowing him to make outrageous statements on his running of the club without being in any way properly challenged.

Little wonder that Sky Sports journalist, and Newcastle fan, Pete Graves, finds himself stuck in the middle.

Clearly the media had been briefed by somebody connected to Mike Ashley/Newcastle United when putting out positive messages in the last 24/48 hours, claiming that now the NUFC owner was going to ‘splash the cash’ and be supporting Rafa Benitez, with in particular claims of the club being set to buy a striker for £20m who would create a new club transfer record.

These reports were carried by Sky Sports and Pete Graves was one of the most enthusiastic in reporting claims of signing this mysterious £20m striker.

For most Newcastle fans, it was a case of heard it all before from the club (Mike Ashley) and the media willing to carry his message, with it seen as the usual PR nonsense put out to deflect criticism. With no belief that anything other than Kenedy and maybe another cheap loan signing will arrive.

Sure enough, Sky Sports’ Pete Graves has gone from the deal on the verge of happening this morning: ‘Told the fee is £20m, but club determined to keep it quiet till it’s done, to avoid added competition.’ to “Next on the list is a striker…but hearing tonight it’s been a frustrating day…Work to do.’

Is there really anybody out there who honestly believes Mike Ashley is seriously going to back Rafa Benitez with a £20m striker this month???

Pete Graves may well be simply repeating what he has been told by the Ashley PR machine but does even he actually believe it?

Pete Graves (Sunday 21 January):

“I’m hearing some very positive vibes (on January signings) yeah.

“But I’ve heard them before.

“I’ve said all along, they simply HAVE to give Rafa significant financial support.”

Pete Graves (Tuesday 22 January – Morning):

“All Newcastle fans want to know the identity of this striker target, but it’s a sensitive situation.

“Told the fee is £20m, but club determined to keep it quiet till it’s done, to avoid added competition. Meanwhile awaiting Kenedy announcement. Straight loan.”

Pete Graves (Tuesday 22 January – Evening):

Kenedy signs for Newcastle on loan.

“Next on the list is a striker and a goalkeeper…. but hearing tonight it’s been a frustrating day on both fronts.

“Work to do.”

    What a massive surprise!!
Are we back to the ‘trying to get another player over the line’!?
I just don’t believe that we’ll see a quality striker in by the deadline, and no doubt we’ll get the usual platitudes of how hard they had tried to bring in a top striker.
Sell up Ashley, before your 3rd relegation ‘success’!!

    • Blackburn1066

Yes your spot on, good lad over the line today but he will go back in the summer, the striker well it will be season ticket time soon so time to get the sheep from the hills.

      • X,WHY,Y MAN.

        Too true I’m afraid !

  • Desree

    We offered 7m

  • Saul Williams

Were done here,Kennedys it.Hey penfold turn off that fax machine,we won’t be needing that.OK Mr Ashley sir.

  • jack

I don’t know why it takes an age for us to do a transfer , more likely penny pinching , Lejeune took about three months , smoke and mirrors time again , we need VAR at Newcastle , can never get them over the line , we’re a joke , we honestly are , hurry up Ashley just fckuk off off

  • Leicester Mag

This is the biggest load of hossheet since Horsy Mc hossheet wrote the Hossheet Chronicles. Lies lies and lies. The alternative truth being nee truka is signing. Do they think people are stupid? Perhaps shouldn’t answer this

  • Paul Patterson

However, if someone put in a £20m offer for any of our players, believe me he would be at his new club within an hour.

    • TheNutJob

      Helicopter job

      • paul mclaughlan

There’s a fleet of them with engines running as we speak.

    • grantham mag

You could by half our team for twenty million.

      • Geordiegiants

More than half would be for nowt man!

  • TheNutJob

Fatty`s never going to pay £20m for anybody, Rafa`s being shafted again,or has he
has he been assimilated into the ways of the son of Satan.
good cop back cop & a 100 grand a week for your troubles, thank you very much

    • Geordiegiants

      Anything is possible.

    • Mitros gotta start

      120k apparently

  • Thefootballerwhocouldfly

20 million!? Never gonna happen with Ashley. Will not buy but loan this transfer window unless we sell

  • Chrisn2009

I’ve heard tonight it’s bas dost and Ashley is not happy on the wages he’s asking

    • Geordiegiants

      That old chestnut???

    • Damon Horner

Heard where? A mate or online somewhere?

  • Monkseaton Magpies

They are trying to get this player the comments on this site disgust me why do people posting on the mag hate Newcastle so much. Most people on here want us to buy no players and get relegated in including the Mags hero George from the Times and his good mate who loves Newcastle Mr Luke Edwards they do us proud.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

well that`s a right load of shyte

    • X,WHY,Y MAN.

You cannot blame people for being sceptical after ten years of that fat slugs antics.

      • East Durham Mag

Have MM and Fatty been seen together anywhere? Could be one in the same person?

    • bob0411

Have you got nothing better to do than stir the sh*t??

    • GToon

There is a general frustration and lack of trust with the current owner and his apparent inability to find his favourite cheque signing pen come transfer window time. There’s also the mysterious line that only seems to affect incoming transfers. Please cast your mind back to the summer when we could have attracted decent players for a reasonable fee. Who’s going to come now? We are near the bottom of the league so who will we attract. Yes I want to see great players come here but that isn’t going to happen this January but it could have done in the summer. Too little too late springs to mind. A player costing 20m now could have been bought for 15m in the summer in my opinion. Again it’s a gamble by Ashley and yet again it’s going to cost him and the club.

      • nufcslf

It’s his club only. The man should rot in hell and will one day.

    • KRS1

I do fear you are heading for some kind of breakdown. Your ramblings are that of a mad man. I would definitely advise you to reduce your daily intake. Whatever it is you are taking is doing you no favours.

      • Cockneytrev

        Glue!!!!!

  • Geordiegiants

What a load of Turkish Delight, it absolutely beggars belief, it really does, who in there right mind apart from the obvious mackem trolls on here, no need to name them all they know who they are, would believe this?

  • Roblee7

#boycott sky. That will make people sit up!!

    • Big Al 1967

You have a point. Last season without us their viewing figures dropped by around 20 per cent hence the reason we are never off Sky as they know full well the masses will watch

  • DC1964

Yet more humdrum transfer window piffle!

  • X,WHY,Y MAN.

a load of Doug Dewitt !
We will get a couple of loan signings in and that will be that, The rest is just window dressing to stave off a rebellion by fans.
We’ve seen it all before with this fat scum bag Mike Ashley because there is no way he is stumping up to the tune of 20 million for a striker.
It just doesn’t tally up in Ashley’s World to go from selling the club in October to spending big on a front man in January.

  • Monkseaton Magpies

In the War we had the Cambridge five as spies for Russia the people who hated England the place they lived and grew up Blunt, Burgess, Philby, Cairncross and McClean on here it’s the Newcastle hundred people who hate our club day in day out . To many to name but you know who you are very sad. The Times is very proud of you.

    • bob0411

      Away with you WUM.

    • Cockneytrev

Have you been on the pipe?

    • KRS1

      You really are a helmet

    • Kneebotherm8

Don’t act like a moron, the only ones on here who hate NUFC are the likes of CiTyBlUe……..

      • GToon

He likes us. We filled a void in his life for about four days!

        • Kneebotherm8

Aye but have we heard the last of him??..

    • Guest 2

And in France you, yes you, would be known as a collaborator, you Ashley hoop licking moron.

    • Georgia Peter

      Porciestreet
Watch your mouth son. I,m one of the people you rant about and my support is above reproach.

    • HarryHype59

Pathetic analogy! We love the club deeply. This is why we hate this regime for what it has done to NUFC.

BTW do you know who Lord Haw Haw was? You, Clarko and Fleckman play a similar role on this forum.

  • John Partland

The only way we sign a striker and goalkeeper and spend 20 mil on a player is if Rafa has made it clear he will extend his contract if it happens. Keep Rafa, keep potential buyers interested in the club for a takeover in the future, which will be a lot easier if we are still in the premier league. If that’s not the case, it’s a lie and the transfers will fall through. If they don’t fall through, don’t be surprised if we see news of a new contract agreed with Rafa.

  • Jezza

I am genuinely surprised to learn tonight that Newcastle’s £20 million striker signing has hit the skids.

I truly believed Fat Ashley’s PR machine would try and string us along with this nonsense right till the deadline.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

better take pill Jezza, get over the shock

    • Georgia Peter

      Porciestreet
Personally, I wouldn’t believe Cashley,s last breath if it came out of his mouth. I would insist on a post_mortem.

  • Tel Boy Telboy

Yes but if we sell Mitro for about the 15mil mark then Ashley is not really spending 20mil is he, There is always a side line with Ashley, This is why Newcastle under Ashley has never grown or developed.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

he won`t spend anything, he`ll want the £20m funded by sales

      • Big Al 1967

There will be no major signings unless they are funded by player sales.
The sad sad thing though is that there are people on here and on social media who defend Ashley to the hilt and think he is doing a wonderful job!!

    • StevieB

Correct . One in one out . No net spend again . No depth added

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Sky reporting Brighton had made an offer for Mitro, WBA also want him but must sell Evans first

    • Andy Mac

Knocked back because like the club that’s on sale or not depending on your point of view, Fatman is asking too much for him !

  • Peter Stabler

I’m getting reports that Mick Quinn’s knee is on the mend…..”We’d need a tractor but we think we can get this one over the line”

    • GToon

He’d be perfect for us except for the fast counter attack style that we play! Unless one of the other players gave him a piggyback.

      • paul mclaughlan

I doubt he’s much slower now than he was in his heyday.

  • GToon

I just hope it isn’t Slimani. He’s very average. The Leicester fans reckon his first touch is appalling.

    • FatParosite

I can’t believe they paid £28M for him. He’s slow & his second touch is a tackle.

  • relaxed

I heard Shola Ameobi is coming tomorrow for a medical

    • Leicester Mag

Eye he’s car sharing with Shefki

      • relaxed

        lol

      • Leicester Mag

Going to replace my Franky Pingel poster with the Hos

        • Mag_Ladd

Right next to the one of Xisco?

          • Leicester Mag

            Of course!

        • Cockneytrev

          Don’t you’ll regret it,,
I’ll never get rid of my Graham Oats poster,,

        • FatParosite

I’ll never take down my Des Hamilton poster.

  • Leicester Mag

government just announced unit to deal with fake news. Might want to play a visit to Shytebrook

    • Guest 2

      And Sky, and Talksport

  • Mag_Ladd

I call absolute bull when it comes to this, Pete Graves talks out his behind and we’re always let down in the transfer windows. It’s always in the last week or so of the windows that we’re gonna get this ‘big’ signing in and never do, personally think we’ve done our business now getting Kenedy in and thats it.

    • Jezza

Agreed 100%. Sanctioning the Kenedy loan will have been excruciatingly painfull for Fat Ashley. That’s all we’re getting for certain. The only transfers NUFC will do between now and the deadline will be player sales.

      • Mag_Ladd

You’ve hit the nail on head mate, wouldn’t be surprised if we’re left in the lurch letting either Mitro or Shelvey go with no replacement in.

  • Come&TakeIt1836

Somebody get Jane a drink. Her glass is half empty. ;-)

    Thank you for your opinion.

  • GToon

That bloke from Bristol City looks a good player. The full back we are apparently looking at. I think it was him or Kenedy tho.

    • Leicester Mag

Norfolk and Chance we will get him. Sadly

      • GToon

Think Everton are interested too. So that’s that then.

        • Leicester Mag

Saddest part of this is what Buffalo chops will do to his career. Money talks and Mikey whispers

          • GToon

I think Troy Deeney wud be a decent buy too if Mitro has to go.

          • FatParosite

Deeney is as big a heedcase as Mitrovic & is currently getting psychological help. I can’t see Rafa swapping one for another.

  • GToon

I think we could go for Cairney if Shelvey goes and I think this forward is linked to Mitro leaving too.

  • KRS1

I bet the Shelvey deal is all agreed. Fatty will have agreed with Gold and Sullivan that it’s not announced until about 1pm on the 31st. Penfold will then claim that we tried to replace him but just couldnt get it over the line.

  • wheyayeman

Can’t get near Chelsea’s bench? Played a game and a half in 3 seasons? Assurance of future career in football under threat? What a signing ! (On loan for 6 months) Welcome to the lofty ambitions of a permanent relegation dog fight courtesy of Mike Ashley.
So some things to expect in the closing days of the transfer window…

    1. No 20 million striker !
    2. A likely Hush hush deal to sell Shelvey + Mitro within hours of the deadline to generate a large surplus of cash which sadly can’t turn into replacements because we were victims again of the transfer window and simply ran out of time to get the right players ‘over the line’.
    3. Rafa giving increasingly frustrated interviews about Mike knowing the situation, Rafa having nothing to report but his expectation something positive will happen ‘soon’.
    4. Ghost rider and Clarko loving it!

  • FatParosite

When the Judas Chronicle run lines like “and he (Ashley) has told managing director Lee Charnley to ensure that Benitez gets his target.” You know fine well they are in the pocket of Bishop & jumping to a tune. Everyone at the Chronicle & Simon Bird & them at the Mirror should never ever be trusted again. They are vile & lazy & always get their 30 pieces of silver for the betrayal over the last 10 years.

    • wheyayeman

      Amen!

  • HarryHype59

I cannot decide which long drawn out tedious saga depresses me most! The takeover or the quest for a new centre forward.

    • wheyayeman

Still waiting on Andy Carrolls replacement!

  • Guest 2

Er, Mr. Graves. Ashley and Charnley have known, apparently, since mid December that the takeover was off (for now). Clearly such things never cross your mind when you print chapter and verse every line these pirates feed you. Had plenty of time to get the ducks in a row to get Rafa who/what he needed.

  • Georgia Peter

    Porciestreet
The norm at the Toon is to broadcast everything to the hills and has been for years so why now the need for all the secrecy. Sounds like the fat the if is promising Raffa a croc of 5h!t as usual and nowt will come of it.
Don’t trust anything he says. He needs to be gone. I feel so sorry for Rafa.
