Premier League form table makes good reading ahead of Newcastle v Burnley
The Premier League form table tells its own story for both Newcastle United and Burnley.
The full Premier League table sees Burnley in an excellent eighth place, having accumulated 34 points in 24 matches, all but making them safe already from relegation.
However, it was only Huddersfield’s 3-0 defeat on Tuesday night that has lifted Sean Dyche’s team off the very bottom of this Premier League form table. The Clarets having won none of their last seven matches and in this last six game table, they have lost four and drawn two, giving only two points from 18.
They have played Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United (twice) in these past half dozen games – but by the same token Burnley have picked up only one point from games against Huddersfield and Palace, failing to score in both.
Against the better teams they were unfortunate to see Man Utd score an equaliser at Old Trafford in added time and Liverpool score a winner in injury time – but Newcastle must take heart from these stats. Especially with Burnley set to be missing up to eight first team squad players tonight.
In contrast, whilst Newcastle are fifteenth in the Premier League and only one point off second bottom, they surprisingly have very decent recent form in the league.
The last half dozen games have produced two predictable defeats to Man City but eight points from twelve against fellow relegation strugglers. Wins at Stoke & West Ham, plus draws at home to Brighton & Swansea. Nobody would pretend those two home draws were great performances but they could still prove to be valuable points come May.
Speaking of valuable points, tonight surely has to see Newcastle aiming for the three points, as with the table so tight and rivals set to be playing each other tonight and in the coming weeks, others will pick up points. After tonight, Newcastle travel to Palace who are also (marginally) lower down in the Premier League form table, however, after that game, Newcastle then play Man Utd, Bournemouth and Liverpool, who at the minute are fifth, eighth and top of the form table.
