Aaron Lennon has been linked a number of time in the past with a move to Newcastle United.

Now with 13 days to go until the closing of the January transfer window, it is reported that Newcastle are once again looking at a possible transfer.

The winger was allegedly offered to Newcastle back in summer 2014, Lennon moving a year later to Goodison Park.

There are clear reasons as to why Everton may be keen to move the winger on now.

Aaron Lennon turns 31 in April and sees his current contract end in June.

He has no chance of being offered another one and with Bolasie now coming back to full fitness and £20m+ spent on Theo Walcott, the writing is on the wall for the former Spurs player.

ESPN say their ‘sources’ have told them that Newcastle are considering making a move as Rafa Benitez looks desperately for value for money signings who could make a difference in this relegation run-in.

Lennon has done ok against Newcastle in the past and scored for both Everton and Spurs against the Magpies.

However, with Ritchie, Atsu and Murphy all contributing to varying degrees this season, maybe Newcastle fans wouldn’t see another winger as a key signing to make, especially if any budget is tight.

Aaron Lennon has actually featured in 15 of Everton’s 23 Premier League matches with nine starts and six off the bench, although he hasn’t contributed any goals or assists.

He always has looked a ‘busy’ winger, seemingly set to do something but not rarely producing a great end product. However, his pace and trickery can often unsettle teams.

As off the pitch problems also contributed, the winger only managed six league starts and five off the bench last season, scoring no goals but getting one assist.

Newcastle are desperate for extra quality to be added, especially going forward, but it remains to be seen if Rafa is actually backed to bring in any signings.

What does look for certain is that any signings will have to be more bargain basement than the ones Everton are making, Fat Sam already splashing out around £50m on Tosun and Walcott.

  • Steve

Everton won’t sell to a team that are competing with them to fend off a potential relegation threat

  • Geordiegiants

He must be mad if he would consider coming here.

    • Peaky Magpie

Was the “mad” bit intentional there ? 😂😂😂

      • Geordiegiants

Yes it was a joke, before all of the Snowflake brigade starts, my farther in law is in and out of st Nicholas’s all of the time sectioned month in month out, we have social workers involved, and I’m constantly woken at 2/3 am with the police bringing him to our door. It was only a pun.

        • Peaky Magpie

          ❄️❄️❄️ Brigade 😂

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

here`s us thinking it was you in & out of St Nicks all the time
          apologies
          😂😂😂

          • Geordiegiants

Ha ha, I should be with her father, does me nut in!

          • Geordiegiants

Ah nah who me pals are on here MMM! 😜

  • Peaky Magpie

    Why ? Would rather have John….just Imagine….😉

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Great, another basket case on the books,
wingers all over the shop when what we really need is a striker.
years this larks been going on ever since Demba Ba left

  • jack

No thanks , it’s a striker we need , and not sahko either, they can keep Lennon , and we don’t need a goalkeeper either

    • Geordiegiants

We definelty need a keeper, just not as urgently as a striker.

      • jack

We definitely don’t need a keeper , we have almost next to nothing to spend so why waste it on a keeper when we can’t create or score goals. Defensively goals against is not bad

      • Blackburn1066

We need a F-ck-ng team if we want to stay in the prem

    • Blackburn1066

      here,here

  • Jezza

We could have had Aaron Lennon more than a decade ago but the clown Souness didn’t think he was worth the then asking price of 500 grand.

    • Leicester Mag

10 years ago we might have got a decent player. The boat has sailed for him and us

    • Lhc

Along with luka modric 12-14 million at Zagreb & dele alli 5 million mk Dons. Both wanted to come.

      • Jezza

True. NUFC missed out on Dele Alli over a mere 300 grand. The clubs had agreed a feee of £3.5 million but there was another 300 grand to pay on top, agents fees or something and NUFC refused.

        • Gareth Marshall

We’d have ruined him anyway. Our youth set up is pathetic and he’d likely still be a mile away from the first team. It’s tragic but true I think. I get the point you guys are making though and agree with it.

          • Jezza

Very possibly and on the other hand if he had come good Fat Ashley would have flogged him to the highest bidder at the first opportunity. Either way he wouldn’t have been playing for Newcastle now.

        • Ram Kishore

It was reported that Alli was a Carr scouted player..

      • Cockneytrev

Dennis wise screwed the midriffs deal up, on the Friday it was all arranged. By the Saturday he signed for Spurs

  • Leicester Mag

There was a time rumours used to make fans hearts race now they make bowels move. Another uninspiring dig in the ‘bargin’ bin.

    • Jezza

The worst thing is we won’t even sign Aaron Lennon or any of the other bargain basement deals that are being rumoured.

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

Leeds are also in in for him

  • robbersdog

This would be a fantastic signing. If we’re lucky enough to get him, I’m presuming that he’ll sign his contract and then be presented to thousands of delirious fans at St James’s Park, just like Alan Shearer was.

But don’t get your hopes up lads, City, United, Chelsea and PSG will want to sign him too. But hey, we can dream, right?

    • FatParosite

      Now that’s sarcasm…

  • FatParosite

Allerdyce cast offs….. oooh look the underside of a barrel.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

we already have Stoke & Sunderland cast offs the more the merrier for the Pig

  • Peaky Magpie

Rafa says he wants players in by Jan 20th…afraid that’s when The Chuckle Brothers will shut the window Senor, they’ll hold you to that !

  • FatParosite

How come they gave McClaren a shHload of money?

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

      Panic

    • Peaky Magpie

      Feed his drink habit !

    • Jezza

Because Fat Ashley had just seen Swansea make a near £20 million profit in 18 months on Wilfried Bony who they had bought after NUFC refused to pay the asking price of £9 million. The spending under McClaren was a knee jerk reaction by Fat Ashley after he had seen his penny pinching cause him to miss out on that big profit.

      • Danimal

Sadly, he made a profit on that period of activity, thanks to Wijnaldum. I say sadly, as any transfer profits never ever benefit the team or fans.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

I see Leazes is missing again, must be plotting something big

    • Peaky Magpie

Has Clarko finished taking the Mancs on yet ? 😂

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

he just beamed up never to be seen again

  • Soldier

I said this morning 3 new signings, Larry, Moe & Curly

  • HarryHype59

Have we actually made a realistic bid for a striker yet, in this anti climax of a window?

    • TheNutJob

      don`t be silly
      😀

    • Geordiegiants

Howare man Harry your nee whipa snappa, you know the score by now.

      • HarryHype59

True, but I still have a tiny, but fast fading hope, that something actually half exciting may happen!

Even a loan for a Chelski/Man Citeeh under 23 striker would do!

        • Geordiegiants

Well there’s nowt wrang with that I suppose, we all do somewhere or we wouldn’t be on here.

    • Danimal

      Arthur Scargill’s available.

      • anyobrien

        Now that’s funny 😂 😂 😂

        • Danimal

Sorry to raise false hopes, just realised he’s over 26.

      • Mitros gotta start

        More mobile than the hoss

  • magpiefifer

As if we need another winger!!!!!!

    • Geordiegiants

We’ve had enough to realise a bad one and a really bad one.

    • Danimal

Well we’ve got an owner who constantly wings it, so could be a good fit.

      • magpiefifer

Yes,we’ve got an owner who is a complete waste of space,so again maybe a good fit!!

        • Mitros gotta start

We have an owner that is a complete head case, so again maybe a good fit

  • X,WHY,Y MAN.

it would be right signing yet another clubs cast off which is the grubby and pathetic Mike Ashley way of doing things !

Doesn’t really get a game for Everton these days but that’s okay we’ll have him !

    • Clarko

      He’s made 19 appearances this season…

      • Anita kick up the Hoop

And produced Nowt … just like the rest of his career

    • Mitros gotta start

Nowt to worry about….leeds are after him aswell…..we cant compete with what they will pay him…….thank f00k

  • Anita kick up the Hoop

Another brain fart by Rafa .. wasting Aarons talent and targeting a player who’s proved all his career that he can’t Cross a ball and has less end product than Joselu… keepers, left backs and wingers aren’t the areas that we are drastically short in … meanwhile Rafa looks to ship out Mbemba, Mitrovic and Saivet … because they aren’t in his clique

  • GToon

On the plus side I see our goal difference is 17 better than stokes so if we keep the score less than that on Saturday then we won’t be in the bottom three. Buying Lennon will make no difference to our team. He probably won’t even be a starter.

    • magpiefifer

I can’t see goal difference being a factor this season – we’ll just not get enough points.

  • Alan

Lennon is two things we don’t need another winger and another vertically challenged player.

    • Mitros gotta start

Atsu gayle and lennon……we will murder them on set pieces

  • Footsoldier

I’ve always liked Lennon but I’m not sure its what we need. Maybe Rafa will play him up front through the middle. High balls, use his height.

  • Dave Pattinson

Probably a decent player in his prime, but another wide man, really? Its not as if we have anyone capable of getting on the end of his crosses anyway. Surely a decent finisher, preferably large and with some physical presence is what we could use?

    • Mitros gotta start

Rafa wouldnt play him anyway….the hoss will be picked 1st every time

  • Mxpx

Unless he’s joining us for free on low wages not interested he’s not as good as the 4 wingers we already have

  • Ram Kishore

It is amusing to see that Pardew has attempted to sign Walcott.. why aren’t we doing that

    • Mitros gotta start

Because there is nowt to tell….we have bid for nobody because the fat shyte has no intention of bringing anybody in….just like most of the other windows…..deadline day will see the fat liars helicopter heading towards london with gayle lascelles and atsu on board and another £45 million in his curry fund……bell end of the highest order

  • jilted-john

We just need David Dickinson as our new chief scout/director of football, he is always good at hunting for a bargain, would keep fatty happy if they were cheap as chips!

  • Rob

Since Rafa has us playing defensively for quite a lot of big games surely a counter attacking option of Walcott might have been worth a punt.

Days gone by for that kind of signing though.

  • Vladimir Biggski

    Desperate!

Where is all our money going Mike?

Just look at the difference in quality between clubs like Everton and West Ham, clubs we were well ahead of when the fat thief took over, and what scraping the barrel bargain basement clueless fat tat shop scum bag is giving us.

  • MadMag83

    Nowhere near good enough. Next!

  • Mitros gotta start

Off to burnley….good….not as good as aarons anyway
