It is yet another relegation six pointer on Saturday and Michael Owen has been previewing the match.

At the moment, six points and seven positions divide Newcastle and Swansea.

The Magpies have 22 points in 13th place, whilst The Swans are rock bottom with only 16.

Obviously an away win would close that gap to only three points but a Newcastle win and they would be nine points ahead of the Welsh club and probably seeing at last some daylight between themselves and the rest of those in the bottom three.

Swansea actually started off really well on their travels, conceding no goals in the first three away games as they beat Palace and got creditable draws at Spurs and Southampton.

Their 0-0 draw at Wembley came immediately after Newcastle had beaten Swansea at the Liberty Stadium and their away form crumbled from that point.

As Michael Owen points out, Swansea lost seven Premier League away matches in a row, conceding 16 goals and scoring only three.

Their last away clash saw a dramatic halt to that run as Watford led with four minutes to go, only for Swansea to come away with a 2-1 victory.

The reality is though that no team has lost more away matches than Swansea and indeed they have lost more at home (seven) than anybody else (next highest is five), a bit of a miracle really that they are even in touch at the bottom after losing 14 of the 22 games so far.

Certainly, if Newcastle are to stay up then you feel that Swansea are a club that they must finish above.

Michael Owen says he expects Newcastle ‘to maintain their recent improvement’ and go on to beat Swansea.

That would mean 10 points from 12 in the last four relegation clashes against Swansea, Stoke, Brighton and West Ham.

Owen tipping Newcastle to win and it would be great for the fifty thousand Newcastle fans to see their first home Premier League victory in 12 weeks.

Michael Owen talking to BetVictor:

“Newcastle have picked up seven points from their last four games and I expect them to maintain their recent improvement with a win against Swansea at St James’s Park.

“Swansea did come from behind to win their last away league game at Watford but they remain at the-foot-of-the table and did lose their last seven on the road before their trip to Vicarage Road.

“Tip: Newcastle to win at  10/11.”

I just hope the manager decides to go for it and not sit back and be patient. Against a team like Swansea with their form and where they are, we should be at them right from the off . .

It’s like those golden goal tickets you could buy years ago with the goal time exactly to the second ! Wonder if they still do them ?

  • Rich Lawson

They’ve had their new manager bounce,we need to destroy them right from the start and not sit back in the 1st half to see if we can break them down by the odd goal later

    • Peaky Magpie

Aye and he took 6 points off us last year at Sheff Wed so we owe him a tonking big time.

  • Rich Lawson

Has anybody noticed Owen now has a regular column in The Mail ? What after retirement has he ever done as a pundit, does he even write this stuff himself ?

  • Monkseaton Magpies

With Swansea bringing only a thousand fans or less it’s up to our fans to create a good atmosphere right from the kick off and an early goal would set us up for the three points we need. Out of the two thousand tickets Swansea have returned there are still one thousand left which will be on sale right up till kick off.
