Tuesday opened up with an exclusive reporting that Amanda Staveley, after ongoing talks with the Mike Ashley camp, had made clear they would now pay in excess of £300m for Newcastle United.

The Express exclusive (see below) claimed that Ms Staveley was still waiting for a response to the offer from Mike Ashley and that response was only being delayed because the NUFC owner was waiting to see how much the next lot of UK TV rights deals for Premier League football will be, when announced next month (February).

Tuesday of course then ended with dramatic messages from both the Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley sides.

The Ashley side saying talks had stopped some time ago and that they had actually been a ‘complete waste of time’.

Whilst the Staveley side of things said the original (£250m) was definitely made and indicated that it was still on the table.

In a hilarious move, the Express have now on Wednesday morning tried to keep their embarrassingly timed ‘exclusive’ live, by claiming that the ‘Staveley camp has been left stunned by Ashley’s decision to walk away from talks. They wer looking to increase their offer from an initial £250m to one of over £300m.’

You honestly couldn’t make it up…

So, as if Mike Ashley would turn Amanda Staveley away if she now presented a written offer of over £300m???

The Express – Wednesday 17 January 2018:

‘While Benitez had resigned himself to having minimal funds available for signings this month, he had pinned his faith in the takeover proving successful so he could land his top targets in the summer.

It now looks as if Ashley will be staying put, leaving Benitez considering his own position.

The Staveley camp has been left stunned by Ashley’s decision to walk away from talks. They were looking to increase their offer from an initial £250m to one of over £300m.’

The Mag – Tuesday 16 January 2018:

A new exclusive reports that Amanda Staveley has put in a new and improved offer to buy Newcastle United.

It is claimed that the new Staveley led bid is ‘in excess of £300m’.

Like most of you, I will believe it when I see it in terms of Mike Ashley cutting his ties with Newcastle United.

This latest exclusive appeared late on Monday night and was published by The Express, which hasn’t exactly got the best track record of breaking Newcastle United stories.

Amongst their Newcastle Takeover exclusives in the past, The Express claimed in October that after buying the club, Amanda Staveley was going to give Rafa Benitez £500m to spend over the course of the next two years.

That report/exclusive also claimed Andros Townsend and Hatem Ben Arfa were being targeted to be the first of that £500m spending spree this month (January).

This latest dubious Express exclusive says that after further talks and Amanda Staveley making the new £300m+ offer, Mike Ashley has allegedly not responded to the improved new offer and is waiting to see what figures the new TV deals will come in at.

The UK rights are set to be announced in February, which will be for the three seasons starting with the 2019/20 one.

The oversea rights are already guaranteed to soar beyond the current totals, each country/area of the world is negotiated separately and with the countries agreed so far, it means only waiting to see just how much higher those overseas rights will go.

Queen of the Mega Deals, not now she isn`t.
The Fat Lads put paid to that good & propa

  • Wor Lass

I don`t see that anything they say justifies the headline you`ve used, Sam. The Express (almost as loathsome as the Mail) simply acknowledges that Ashley has, apparently, pulled the plug and reported what the other side, apparently, have said. Hardly worth the efort but decent click-bait – were you on that Lee ryder course for that?

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

He`ll hoy Rafa a few quid for a couple of players, Rafa will see us safe & it`s back to square one in the summer

Watched a programme on the tellybox last night abought the Saudi royal family, eye watering amounts of corruption in just abought everything their involved in, if their in bed with Staveley supporting this derisory bid, I’m glad he’s walked.

    • hetonmag

Ashley hasn’t got the vast amounts like the Saudi family but he is just as devious as them on a slightly smaller scale, he also doesn’t care who he destroys as long as he gets what he wants.

        • Leicester Mag

I have to post there as Lost Soul owing to an earlier tiff.

  • ghostrider

I’d sooner have Ashley and his ways than some chancer buying the club on the drip.

    • Da Ca

I’d rather have a chancer than that chancer Ashley who is a cancer

      • ghostrider

Ashley is no cancer of the club.
Ashley is not willing to go mental in the transfer market and many fans should realise that we cannot compete with those clubs in the top 10 but we can easily cope with those below that, which we do but it’s not accepted due to people hanging onto this net spend nonsense.

If Ashley is doing anything wrong it’s in trying to get a happy medium for him and the club by trying to get in the right people.
Unfortunately it’s not as simple as 123 in the north east with a club like Newcastle United and rarely has it been since the chancers of Hall and co.

Paying Rafa Benitez 5 million a year and allowing players decent wages tells you that Ashley is not playing Mr Scrooge.
He’s playing Mr shrewd and there is a difference.
It still doesn’t pacify us lot because we want something more, like all fans will…certainly of big clubs like we are.

I’d rather have Ashley and have a club to be a fan of rather than have a PCP ownership that flirts with disaster and then does a runner.

        • hetonmag

          💣💣💣💣💣💣

        • TheFatController

You couldn’t possibly know how PCP would run the club yet assert here that they would flirt with disaster and do a runner…

Don’t you think that’s a really sad indictment of your attitude in life that you make up future scenarios to allow you to be self righteous persecutor ?

Life has way more to offer then dreaming up scenarios where you’re one up on inferior people. Try it one day

          • ghostrider

I can speculate just like you people do.
I think we’ve dodged a bullet and Ashley can be thanked for that.

          • TheFatController

I can’t thank him for making the club completely unattractive to every investor in the world

            Sorry.

          • ghostrider

It’s not unattractive. It’s extremely attractive.
the problem is it’s an attractive club based in the wrong geographical location with a hated owner which makes potential investors believe they can justs troll in and take the club for a song and then have some fun with it whilst they make a killing before killing the club or sending it into the back of beyond.

Ashley won’t allow it and they met their match when they tried to take him for a mug.

        • Da Ca

Ashley flirts with disaster and doesn’t run away or change policy nobody wants to spend zillions we don’t have just spend what we earn or can earn will extra revenue that can be earned through growth of the nufc brand not be concerned about sports dire

          • ghostrider

And we do spend what we earn.
We will continue to spend what we earn as long as the bills are paid and there’s contingency money in case of dire need.
That’s the nature of the beast that football is, now.

        • Kneebotherm8

£5 million is the going rate for a top class manager……….if he wants to pay peanuts then he ends up with monkeys…………which we’ve had for most of his ten year tenure…..

          • ghostrider

            Ok fair enough.
Then Rafa needs to act like a top class manager and use what he has to the strength they have.
He’s managing like a 100,000 a year manager and I’m probably being unfair on them.

          • Kneebotherm8

We are struggling near the bottom, just like most thought was going to happen before the season kicked off, given the squad we’ve got.
One or two like yourself seem to think we should be in the top half maybe pushing the top 8.
He may be a top class manager but he isn’t a top class magician.

          • ghostrider

Nope. I said if we can avoid relegation this season then I’d be happy.
However, I want to avoid it by being treated to football that gives me some joy and rarely this season have I had that, due to Rafa’s almost pathetic dealings with what he has at his disposal.

He’s no top class manager but he thinks he is.
Certain fans think he’s some kind of messiah, I don’t know about magician.

          • Kneebotherm8

We should play the type of football McLaren did,we could neither score nor defend and he had a whole lot more money spent in the transfer market in less than a year than Benitez has had in his time here.
As far as top class manager is concerned,we’ll see what jobs he’s offered when /if he leaves here, that will be the absolute proof as to his top class stature in the game, actions will speak louder than your words.

          • ghostrider

Half a team of mercenaries under McClaren.
This is the problem when you sign players who only come to you as a stepping stone.

          • Kneebotherm8

All players are professionals/mercenaries……..I saw a manager,McLaren, who was clueless and couldn’t motivate the players to play for the shirt,he guaranteed half them a game, whatever,as long as they were fit.
At least Benitez guarantees no one a game,he rotates the squad and keeps them all on their toes, though certain ones on here believe the, perceived, better players should be playing every game,if fit.
Back to McLarens days………….no thank you………..Benitez is doing a good job in the circumstances with a squad,on paper, which isn’t a patch on the one McLaren had.

          • ghostrider

Benitez isn’t doing a good job at all.
He’s paid 5 million a year to do a much better one and he’s failing miserably.

          • Kneebotherm8

You could pay him £20 million a year and he’s still got the squad he’s been stuck with.
Little backing from the owner, unlike McLaren.

Get promoted back to the land of riches, making a large transfer surplus in the process. Decide you’re not willing to invest so put the club on the market in May, in the hope of a buyer being attracted by the potential and with a few months to bring in some quality players to protect their purchase? No.

Get promoted, breath a sigh of relief, use some of the new riches to bring in some quality players to make sure it doesn’t happen again? No.

Get promoted, take a huge gamble on the second tier players suddenly improving to Premier League level, cross your fingers and look forward to trousering the riches for yourself? Yes.

Notice that the team is temporarily in an unforeseen and somewhat unrealistic league placing after 10 games, suddenly decide to have a punt on someone being reckless enough to buy the club mid-season? Yes.

By the opening of the transfer window, with the club not sold and the team now in a more predictable relegation battle, take positive action, back the manager with much needed funds to improve the team and protect the value of the club, regardless of whether you’re going to keep or sell? No.

Wait until half way through the transfer window, panic, break your silence via a third party, hint that you might reluctantly release some funds, blame everyone else? Yes.

      Only one chancer round here.

      • ghostrider

11 years as an owner is not a chancer mate.
Still a premier league club after 11 years is not a club in crisis.
We might not compete with the big sugar daddy clubs but that can’t happen under Ashley because he’s not a cash on the hip owner that can bankroll on a whim like the top clubs do and get away with.

Best owner we have ever had in terms of keeping a strong club but a frustrating one in terms of making too many mistakes in appointing the wrong people.

It’s not just an excuse to vent spleen at this b*stard…. it filled the pages for six months and strung along Rafa who will either hand in his notice by the date he gave Ashley or he will do an allardyce and get himself sacked.

20th January was the date Rafa gave…. that’ll give a replacement yes man about 11 days to buy 3 players with £10 million….. and Ashley will want change from it. What am I saying ….’Charnley appoint a manager before the window closes’…..think again.

I expect Rafa to to the honorable thing.

      • Peaky Magpie

There’s been peaks n troughs over the years in my lifetime supporting NUFC Leazes but I can’t ever remember feeling this deflated, yeah there were bad times in the late 70’s and off and on through the 80’s but I was too young to understand the politics then, this is much much more than a trough I feel we have touched the surface of the Mariana Trench.

      • HappyToons

According to BBC contacts the real ‘Leazes’ is in his BBC Jungle Army fatigues stalking the grounds of Ashley’s house as we speak. Being a propa Geordie he has no top on, just jungle grease war paint. Pity it is snowing as he stands out like a sore thumb in that BBC German helmet. Jezza is targeting Desmond’s scalp and is walking through London disguised as a ‘Comanche warrior’ looking for a Costa to plan his attack and somewhere to park his horse. He fits in well amongst the local clientele and he himself is now being targeted by a ‘peace pipe’ smoking Chelsea boy hipster who admires his hair. Is the mag now the Daily Fail? There’s nothing ‘Hilarious’ about any of the utter contempt Ashley has shown to our club, our former stars, our fans and our manager. Fans must turn on this regime. Gallowgate flags is now totally inappropriate what exactly does tryng to create a positive vibe in what remains of our club actually achieving? . It’s gone way past the argument of supporting the team not the regime. Enough! We need one voice and one ultimatum. ASHLEY OUT!

            They are chancers.
Skin flints who will do 100 times worse to this club than Ashley could ever do, or would ever do.
At least under Ashley we are stable.

          • TheFatController

Well, if two relegations, a squad with a handful of PL players, reduced commercial revenue, a shocking youth and scouting programme and being left behind by at least 12 PL clubs is stability then I guess you’re right…

          • Danimal

            “Strong and stable”…sound familiar?

          • ghostrider

We were left behind a long time ago when the hobbyists came in and decided to play silly money games and turning football players into some kind of gods and petulant children of want and greed.

To play at that level we need find a hobbyist willing to spend decades trying to make their hobby stand above the rest and also knowing that failure or boredom trying will not leave their hobby gathering dust or being smashed to pieces.

Other than that we have to work from within, with an owner who is not stupid in taking chances that go way beyond retrieving if all fails.
Ashley at least has a contingency for that.
It’s not pretty at times and we never seem to move too far on or slip too far off.

Everton spent 150 million in the summer and even more right now to be no better than what this team is right now.
If we spent what Everton spent and didn’t take off then we are left with a bunch of junk mercenaries on long contracts on mammoth wages.
That’s destroying your football club and Ashley isn’t prepared to gamble that far on something that doesn’t give him good enough odds against those hobbysists attempting the quick fix.

Until they get bored or some do an Ellis Short, then we have to soldier on as best we can.
Getting in a manager that buys players that are needed would be a hell of s start.

    • TheFatController

Trust me, Ashley is actually the biggest loser in all this.

He publically tries to sell the club, fails, and, being generally disliked by those outside the club for his SD antics, they laugh at this failure and await the kicking he’ll get from us, the upset supporters.

Trust me, his wife will be soothing his brow over his corn flakes this morning telling him ‘at least I love you…’ as the world yet again wonders if and when Ashley will ever do something to make himself remotely popular ….

    • ghostrider

He needs backing and he just might be a little bit more forgiving with the haters.

  • anyobrien

      Jack Peat LE Today….

‘Perhaps the guys at “The Mag” may want to reconsider their take on our scoop, which they described as “yet another (publication) wanting to have a piece of the Newcastle United circus, getting cheap clicks/attention by spinning a yarn.

“The ‘sources close to the club’ more likely to be reading a few other articles elsewhere without any substance/knowledge of what is, or isn’t happening at Newcastle United.”

Hmmm….’ Yes I’ve been saying the same thing….

It wasn’t genuine….Ashley was never serious about the sale…. United’s fans do get carried away on a tsunami of emotions…..

… but who can blame them after 10 years of this owner…. they got suckered as did the local press who went along with this page filling charade!

In today’s world 350 million for a premier league club with our fan base stadium & potential is not being greedy, it’s the going rate. I’m not sticking up for Ashley but the price is the price and it was the going rate. If I was going to sell my car 2 year old just over 15’000 on the clock etc and someone offers me 12/13k and I want 20 as that is the worth, you would decline there offer and move on you know there either p&&s takers or haven’t got the finances, top n bottom line she was a messer from day one!

It’s only worth what people are prepared to pay… I wanted 150k for one of my properties….. Had numerous views and offers but none for the asking price, but guess what I sold for less as advertised, but I still made they got a deal and everyone was happy… If the club was going on the cheap as suggested by some they would be cueing up… It’s a license to print money if you get it right….
I also sold a car the other week guess what the lad chipped me a couple of hundred but I wanted it gone so I done the deal… Guess what Ashley done a cringe interview view with sky’s “Craigey Craig”… Stating he can no longer take the club forward and wants rid!

But wait now there is a new TV deal on the horizon and guess what he fancies a bit of that.
Look how he treated the owners of man City… Legend has it they wanted us but fat boy went on a bender and fobbed them off… They moved on and the rest is history.

I don’t buy into this ‘somethings only worth what people are prepared to pay’ because you always get ‘chancer’s’ who will try and take the p&&s. You’ve just got the wrong type of buyers, in this case stavely. So hold onto the asset until someone who does live in the real world (financially) comes along.

        • anyobrien

Not if you need to get rid of it… He wants rid just like I did I took what I could get…. You may want 150k…for your house but if people only think its worth 145k…what do you do?… Sit on it and risk negative equity?…. A bit like getting relagated it will lose value… Anyway you always put something up higher than you want because you’ll always get the chopped on it… You find out one day son… It’s business.

          • Lhc

How do you know I don’t own my own business? Are you in the car trade in some capacity? Random question which you don’t have to answer. Oh n you say 145k when you want 150, 5k nothing drastic but Ashley supposedly wanted 350 and stavely offered 250, 100 million is abit of a difference mate!

          • anyobrien

            😂 😂… Hook line a d sinker mate.

          • Lhc

  • X,WHY,Y MAN.

I have said all along she was nothing but another Barry Moat character.
If P.C.P (Angel Dust) were ever serious about buying the club there could have been all kinds of compromises and things done to try and stop us from being relegated.
All they had to do was reach exclusivity then Ashley might have been willing to show them some grace.
That is why I think the whole thing has been a load of rubbish from day one with Ashley having no intention of selling the club.

Ashley has pulled this latest stroke with the sole intention of keeping Rafa on a string all season so he doesn’t walk.
He has just gave him a little bit hope that things might change while at the same time using the sale of the club as an excuse not to spend money.
It wouldn’t surprise me if he is only interested in Rafa keeping us up this season then he has served his purpose with more T.V money on the horizon for fat boy to skim off.
He can then go back to having a mug in charge with Ashley and his cronies picking the cheap foreign imports through a yes man D.O.F in place !

    • TheFatController

Any new player from France will be pictured holding a scarf above his head but now additionally with a stamp on his forehead saying ‘HMRC Approved’…

      • anyobrien

        😂😂

      • X,WHY,Y MAN.

They will revert back to their original plan as soon as they can.
It will never change and they will keep plugging away with one mug after another until it somehow yields success in their heads.
Bringing in Rafa is just a deviation from the plan although they would have pushed it onto him if they could have got away with it.

  • Peaky Magpie

The Fat Lad has completely hit his objective now…..we should be talking about transfers now and the Citeh game not this pile of ‘never going to happen’ 💩💩💩

    • anyobrien

As predicted… Cause havoc….and forget about transfers

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

The Media has a go at him, the Fans, the Manager, MP`s, HMRC.
Does he care, not for one moment in time.

    • Peaky Magpie

Total contempt for all except those in his inner circle.

  • HappyToons

As my eyes look at that massive points gap between us and Stoke, and say we draw with Burnley and Southampton, can any optimist see us getting anything from those other games ( see the right hand column.) Unless we will be signing a modern day super mac (scores 3 on his home debut) I am not confident at the moment. WE have some decent wingers,…why not Andy Carroll as the one and only signing (if we have less than 20 million)? If he was fit at least I have confidence that he can score goals.

    • anyobrien

We need another.. Paul Goddard he came from west ham and saved us back in the 80s…god bless sarge… 61 games… 19 goals..

    • paul mclaughlan

“ If he was fit”. Big “if” mate.

  • Toon

Yes this is a “hilarious”, “must read” aka “pointless”
