Crucial game next week – let`s hope some of the feel-good factor sticks around for both fans and players. Good to see Perez have a little run of goals to go with the effort he puts in. Maybe it can gee him up a bit and get him looking more like the player who arrived from Spain a couple of years back. Murphy is growing in confidence, which shows what a run and a bit of trust from the manager can do (don`t mention Mitro!). Lascelles should be OK, which is vital and, hopefully, Yedlin wil be back at RB and manquillo can bring the oranges out at half time. I reckon he`d be good at that. I know I said, “don`t mention Mitro” but come on! We need a centre forward. If we don`t buy one then he should get a game – but I know he won`t! Saivet deserves a bit more action as well – if Rafa is determined to ignore Mbemba then maybe he could have a run instead of Isaac.

it was a league 2 team, they should perform against them although the second half was dire

Next week is the game that matters and going into it with another win is better than if we`d been “giant-killed”! Luton are a good League 2 team on the up, they were full of confidence and really well supported. The lads did a professional job on them. You can only beat what`s in front of you.

i know, i think we will beat Swansea but we have an awful habit of sitting back when we`re in the lead

Just preparing for the next game against City!

          • StevieB

Yeah it was like that last season , we played 60 percent of last season in third gear for some reason, very strange

Slightly disagree on Manquilo he works better with Atsu than Dummett does.

      • Wor Lass

Manquillo is a decent footballer but not at PL level. No complaint about his attitude or intelligence – I just don`t think he`s good enough. I take the point about Dummy, he doesn`t do as well going forward as I would like but a fully fit Dummy is a better option than Manqullo, in my opinion.

        • hetonmag

          Ok fair comment.

Manquillo was certainly not our worst player yesterday, I think he has done okay whenever called upon and looked better at RB. He’s better than Perch and other players we’ve had and is one who some fans won’t ever rate because of who he is, rather than what he does IMO. He worked hard and got forward a lot more than Dummett.

        • hetonmag

Maybe if he hadn’t played for the Mackem’s people wouldn’t have been so harsh on the lad.

          • GToon

Venison and Bracewell did and they were fine. I think it is purely down to ability. His first touch isn’t great and he doesn’t make the right choice a lot of the time. He’s ok but nothing more than that.

          • hetonmag

When they played social media wasn’t in the public domain.

          • GToon

True but I think the biggest indicator is applause form the crowd rather than the junk we churn out. Venison was highly regarded and gained an England cap playing for us. Bracewell was highly thought of too. Top players.

          • hetonmag

Agree about the lads you mention and we will agree to disagree about Manquilo.

          • GToon

Yeah. Lets hope he comes good over the season. Jose Enrique had a tough start and then did really well.

Our worst player was the keeper, Woodman. I just think he was very nervous as it was his debut. Of the outfield players I would argue the fact that everything they did involved launching it towards Manquillo would suggest they thought he was our weakest player too. He’s not awful. He’s just not particularly good.

    • StevieB

Yeah what happened with Saivet ??? I don’t understand how a player can come in and play that well then the manager makes him disappear off the face of the earth again ….it just doesn’t make sense 🤔

      • Kneebotherm8

He did it with Gamez down at Swansea as well,he had a decent game but hasn’t been seen since.

  • Rich Lawson

Murphy really starting to show why we bought him, he will get better with every game he starts, buy (loan) the big lad in the middle who can profit from his crosses. Please don’t bother to respond with Joselu stat’s for how many headers he has won,it’s about putting the ball in the net !

  • Mag_Ladd

What really jumped out at me yesterday was how much of an effect Lascelles has in our defence, without him we lack organisation and physical presence we were awful in the 2nd half without him.
