We asked you the question yesterday…Which 11 players would you pick in your Newcastle team v Chelsea?

We put together a list of the 25 players who could potentially be selected on Sunday afternoon at Stamford Bridge

Can Newcastle get through to the FA Cup fifth round for the first time since 2006?

With it being an FA Cup match, there is more of a spread of votes/support, with Newcastle fans acknowledging that Rafa Benitez may well rotate his squad ahead of Burnley in only three days time.

The top mark is only 73% whereas normally the most popular choices in Premier League games are 90%+.

Four of the six most popular choices make up the back four.

Jamaal Lascelles (73%) is the top choice, whilst alongside him Ciaran Clark (63%) is fifth highest. Chancel Mbemba just missing out on the team with 49% support.

Full-backs DeAndre Yedlin (72%) and Paul Dummett (63%) were also easy choices.

Goalkeeper was more divided, Rob Elliot (50%) sneaking into the side, with Karl Darlow (35%) and Freddie Woodman (15%).

Whilst Rafa Benitez doesn’t appear too sure about playing the pair together, fans have gone for both Merino (68%) and Shelvey (59%) in the middle of the pitch.

Aleksandar Mitrovic the choice up front, though only with 57% support.

In the fan selection there is no obvious second striker, though Christian Atsu did play behind the main striker when Newcastle won at Stoke. In that game, Matt Ritchie (54%) lined up on the left wing and Jacob Murphy (70%) on the right.

Here is the percentage support for each player from the thousands of votes cast:

I’ll be staggered if the team looks much like that.

  • Paul Patterson

At least five there are wrong for me.

    Chronicle running:

Insert Name: It’s time we gave Newcastle fans something to shout about in the FA Cup

  • Albert Stubbins

Atsu is no no.10 and shelvey and merino can’t play together. Neither one can tackle. Need a holding midfielder today against the likes of Pedro. I would go with three cb s and try and hit them on break. We’ve got a terrible record doon there. I expect a bus parking job.

    • Albert Stubbins

F***** hell. I was spot on for a change. It’s a bus parking job with Haydon as holding midfielder. No merino and hope to hit them on break. I think it’s the only way we can win but a draw would be nice for me.

  • Bowlsey

Interesting squad. It’s going to be completely wrong but it’s interesting all the same. Can’t see us getting any kind of result against Chelsea but Liverpool lost to West Brom yesterday so who knows?

  • Lhc

I’ve now come to the conclusion that Rafa is sabotaging Mitrovic’s career.

  • hetonmag

Interesting line up three players in from the cold so to speak, Mbemba, Haidara, and Saivet, in Rafa we trust in Ashley we don’t.

My god 29% voted for manquillo it just proves some of the people on here don’t no the difference between a golf ball and a football. He could not get a game for a decent northern league team that’s how bad we have become.I thought that was bad then I looked further down and 20 % voted for Joselu ffs clueless
