With Newcastle United’s move for Nicolai Jorgensen appearing to falter, an exclusive on Sunday morning claims that Luan could be signed as an alternative.

Luan plays in Brazil for club side Gremio and has made a couple of substitute appearances for the national side.

Set to turn 25 in March, the striker is reported to have been watched by Liverpool for some time.

However, Gremio are said by The Sun to have made clear they are keen to sell this month and have told Newcastle they can have him for £17.5m.

There had been claims from Mike Ashley’s people that the owner was willing to back Rafa Benitez with a mystery ‘£20m striker’ but an initial £12m bid was labelled derisory by Feyenoord, with little progress since.

The best part of a week later and the Dutch club are insisting their £20m valuation is met, with Newcastle said to be nowhere near that figure.

Luan is yet another name added as a possible alternative by the media, along with Troy Deeney, Islam Slimani and others.

What is clear is that Newcastle desperately need more goals added to their squad and without that, it is set to be a real struggle to avoid relegation.

Luan only has a strike rate of around a goal every four matches for his club side in Brazil, so not exactly prolific.

Only three days to go until the final day of the transfer window and fans will believe it when they see it, when a new striker arrives for anything remotely close to £20m.

  • TheNutJob

    Penfold will offer them £10m
    😂😂

    • Peaky Magpie

Aye for him and the Dane.

    • Albert Stubbins

Aye and pray they say no!!

    • Blackburn1066

      10 Mil no chance

  • Desree

I would rather Mirandinha. Even the rumours are rubbish under fatso. The last decent signing we made was cisse in 2012. 6 effin years

    • Wor Lass

And he was only decent while we still had Demba.

  • FatParosite

Interestingly enough they are not hitting that £20M mark and it is only £4M more than not even their 13 year old record. Not one striker mentioned other than Slimani has premiership experience.

    • Paul Patterson

£20m will be inclusive of wages and agents fees at best.

      • FatParosite

I agree. But they will say £20M outright… they have to combat Shearer’s criticism.

        • Oooh bobbi fleckman

Nobody has to combat Shearer’s criticism, that’s no reason to sign anyone. Shearer just spouts populist rubbish.

          • Blackburn1066

Shearer is a fan not like you your just nothing.

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

Shearer is a fan but cares the most about his own profile. Nevertheless, the club should not be doing it’s transfer business to placate Alan Shearer.

      • Blackburn1066

Who Gives a Fu-k we will not do the deal anyway

  • Peaky Magpie

    💤💤💤💤💤💤

  • Paul Patterson

We will start the bidding at £8m and then up it to £12m on Tuesday night.

    • Blackburn1066

      no

  • Damon Horner

Luan plays behind the striker doesn’t he? Not a bad strike rate for a ‘ten’.

    • John

1 in 4 in the Brazilian league? Yeah sh*t hot….

      • Damon Horner

It includes sub appearances as well though, If Perez weighed in with that we’d be happy. Do you know how good the Brazilian league is?

        • Oooh bobbi fleckman

          Exactly, he’s a ten.

  • Peaky Magpie

Hope we beat Chelsea today…..Lovejoy gets right on my t*ts !!!

    • Big Al 1967

He’s another one who thinks football started with the invention on the Premier League. He was all made up when according to him Chelsea won their first league title in 2005. He had absolutely no clue that they had won one in 1955. Fair-weather glory hunting Muppet!!

  • HarryHype59

This new striker saga has become as predictable and shambolic as the takeover farce.

    • Peaky Magpie

Aye Harry ‘that line’ doesn’t half do some moving about 🤣

  • Thefootballerwhocouldfly

We’re not signing any one! History repeats itself with Ashley. #Don’tBuyTheSun #AshleyOut

    • FatParosite

We will.. there is simply no wriggle room.

      • Damon Horner

I agree with you, no valid reason for a transfer not to go through. It could affect our league status, the takeover, the manager and if the worst happens everybody will be looking at the lack of investment.

    • Oooh bobbi fleckman

I read the Sun online, is that ok? Page 3 is tame though if that’s what you mean?

      • Danimal

There’s more t1ts on here these days, with your pals Clarko, Monky and Ghost.

        • Oooh bobbi fleckman

          Nice one ;-)

        • MadMag83

That’s disrespectful to breasts, at least they have a point! (Or two 😉 )

          • Danimal

Sorry I just needed to get it off my chest.

  • paul mclaughlan

Soon as I read “The Sun” I stopped reading.

  • Gallowgate Frost

I heard we were going for the Ghana lad Richard Boakye

    • Dillon Tovak

I heard we’re going for the Nigerian lad Shola Ameobi.
(Who by the way looked better than Joselu yesterday)

      • Oooh bobbi fleckman

He was very good yesterday, wasn’t he?

  • Wezza147

I’m going to go out on a limb and say we just couldn’t get him over the line in time!

    • Dillon Tovak

The line is a dot to us.

  • Albert Stubbins

    Lol. Fake news!!

    • Blackburn1066

Thank god I have a real fellow fan who can see through the fog. Thanks mate.

  • Peaco

Is Jorgensen a very different striker to Mitro? Not that it matters as we won’t sign him, and Rafa won’t play Mitro….

    • Blackburn1066

Jorgensen not going to talk about him, Mitro I wish he was gone , he is slow ,gets sent off every 2 or 3 games, will not do what the manager tells him to do on the field of play. The manager does not like him training with his first team as he can add to the injury list.

  • kingfisher

Don’t know why anyone would bother to check the stats of strikers that we’re “linked” with, as the price of any striker who can score goals in the Prem will be in excess of £30 million. We are never going to pay anywhere near that (i.e Joselu and Mitro).
Iv’e said it before: If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys !

    • HarryHype59

I don’t know why we don’t buy a £30m player over three years. That way, a far better player can be bought. That is what other clubs are doing.

  • MadMag83

I wonder if we can get him on Lu-an?

  • That’s all we need a “fragile” Brazilian. At least Jorgensen played in a tough league and is physically prepared for the Prem. Luan will get slaughtered here.

    • HarryHype59

A number of poorly scouted over priced players will be touted in the media. Last minute panic buys rarely succeed.

    • Albert Stubbins

Jorgensen went off injured today in 82nd minute!!

    • Blackburn1066

The two of them are Sh-t

  • Desree

There is zero chance of nufc signing anyone from under the nose of Liverpool.

Rafa will be told to make do – Mitrovic will be out from the cold, will score against Burnley, then get sent off for assault.

We lose with 10 men and the debate about Mitrovic continues.

Mike Ashley looking to sell means he needs to make profit. Expect a few players to leave.

  • Down Under Mag

Am I the only one who thinks knowing our luck we will actually end up getting someone who scores in their openign game, looks lively and then gets a season ending injury and we are back to square one??

  • Stephen Paylor

The best player in South America for 16 million is a total bargain and would be amazing

    • Blackburn1066

Yes good player but we will not get him or any other player

  • Blackburn1066

If NUFC do not sign players by the end of the game on Wednesday we should put all those pox flags away telling the world how we are the best supporters in the land and fill the ground with flags that show the world that we hate the little Fat Ba-terd child that is our owner.
