  • MichaelMaximusMoose

It always fills me with dread when i see the likes of SloMo in the staring line up.
it`s confirmation of how low the standard at Newcastle is,
the only consolation is it`s against the bottom club, against a decent side he`s like the invisible man
3 pts for us today !

    • mentalman

      Not just a decent side

  • robbersdog

I would’ve had Merino (or Hayden) in for Diame, but Joselu isn’t in the starting line-up, so I’m happy. The bench (apart from Joss) doesn’t look too bad either, so let’s get some points on the board because we need to beat the teams below us.

  • anyobrien

I’m happy with that….. Please let’s get a early goal and win the ffs

  • jack

Somebody explain why merino is on bench and diame playing

    • anyobrien

21 year old Spanish kid… Sometimes you need to ease them in. Maybe

  • mentalman

    Is mbemba injured

    • anyobrien

No he’s just not very good… Pulled out of position all the time and doesn’t follow basic instructions… Another myth manufacturered by the fans.

      • mentalman

Keep an eye on him when he leaves

        • anyobrien

Will but it will depend on what league and tbh it’s scoring we have a problem with not defence

  • Alreet

Happy with the selection. Finally a first team back line for how many games???

Would have preferred merino for diame but the rest is well balanced.

Lets try to get a few early goals and get some light between the relegation zone.

    Keep goin rafa

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

i`m afraid SloMo`s contribution is nil so far

      • Virsino

except saving a certain goal :-)

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

          got away with that one

          • Virsino

            absolutely, he/we are very lucky

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

4 chances all missed, Perez 1 on 1 with the keeper, missed, 3 teams below us are winning

    • Danimal

Agree about the missed chances but we benefit from the other results either way. Apart from Palace v Burnley it’s all relegation teams taking points off each other.

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

cant benefit from W Ham, W Brom & Southampton winning

        • Danimal

If we win – big ‘if’ – it would give us the opportunity to catch Brighton, Huddersfield and Watford. But I’d prefer them all to draw with each other!

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

i`m more worried about what`s below us,

          • Danimal

Agreed but as it stands, a winning goal for us would mean ten teams are below us at 5pm. Hopefully Manure and Arsenal will then do the honours against Stoke and Bournemouth.

  • mentalman

    Slomo justifying his selection already

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

      as a goalkeeper

  • 1957

Playing at home against the bottom of the league team and it seems to me that they have had much more possession than us albeit I don’t think they’ve had a shot on target yet… thanks to the referee missing SloMo auditioning for goalkeeper. How did the ref miss that, it looked like a pen from level 7.

    • Wor Lass

Could the FA review that? retrospective ban – we can only hope. lol

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

    Swansea score

    • Wor Lass

Well, who would have thought it!

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

long way back now & we are just rubbish

        • Wor Lass

It might just put a rocket up their ar$e. He`ll probably bring Hossaloo on now. Ha ha – couldn`t make it up!!

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

Palace are winning, W Ham are winning, Southampton winning, W Brom winning

        • Peaky Magpie

Saying on the BBC feed it’s the worst game all season against 2 Championship teams.

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

We are watching it & it`s pure garbage

          • Peaky Magpie

Just come in Moose and I was really expecting us to win this one, other results not going for us either.

  • MadMag83

Don’t worry lads, Joselu is on….

    • Wor Lass

Waugh has just described it as a “like for like” change – he means neither of them can hit a cow`s ar$e with a banjo!

  • Tino o

He’ would have put away Gayles sitters

    • GToon

Gayle is very very average at best. He missed three good chances v Luton last week too.

      • Phil Yare

by 27 he should be in his prime. can be a lovely neat finisher but most evidence is in the league below

      • Tino o

That’s why we’re going down we have no quality up front game should have been over by half time

  • Dave Mitchison

So Gayle off injured. Thank God Benitez has such faith in Mitrovich and the absence of Gayle (if it happens) won’t leave us short up front.

  • nufcslf

    There goes my 0-0 result.

  • Dave Mitchison

    Joss scores

  • mentalman

Why is diame still on and why isn’t rafa telling them to get the ball to atsu and run at the defenders

    • Phil Yare

you can’t take diame off, its not fair on swansea

  • Phil Yare

    joselu is now worth 475m

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

      Real want him back

      • Phil Yare

preparing a £500 deal for him and diame

        • Wor Lass

I love those Diame cakes that they sell at Ikea.

          • Phil Yare

you can get them at morrisons as well. hes a global brand

    • GToon

      To Ashley, probably.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

    The Hoss scores !!!!!!!!!!!!!1

    • Wor Lass

He must have got a new banjo!

    • Peaky Magpie

Really ??? Or is it a “Leazes Penalty “ !!!

      • Wor Lass

Really – and our sweep money rolls over. i`ll keep 14 minutes!

        • Peaky Magpie

          😂😂

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

        😁😁

  • dfsgfdg

we deserve to go down based on that display
terrible and thoroughly logical due to the way this club is run

  • Phil Yare

joselu is the best striker in the world, possibly of all time. he can head the ball harder than tony yeboah could kick it.

    • Peaky Magpie

Maradona & Pele both own Hoss shirts !

      • Phil Yare

neither them 2 could score that goal against liverpool. made matip look like a clown

  • Wor Lass

Bony doing a fair Hoss impression?

    • Phil Yare

shelvey doing a hair loss impression

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

If this display doesn`t get the alarm bells ringing, nothing will

    • Peaky Magpie

      I think a fire in Fatty’s hoose might ?

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

he`ll buy another Mansion before he buys a player

    • Danimal

They’ve been ringing since the summer transfer window. I’m going to take scraps of comfort from results like this and the draw with Brighton, we’re probably better placed at this stage than I would have expected. Lucky to have lots of teams in the mix this time. Last time it was just us and you know who for the final ten games. We do seem to have a severe problem winning home matches, could it be something to do with Ashley’s refusal to allow us a proper striker?

  • Phil Yare

    amazing tactics as usual

    • nufcslf

Come on! it is the bottom team you know……….

      • Phil Yare

        i thought we were 15th?

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

          we won`t be for long

          • nufcslf

            Too bloody true

    • mentalman

Well apparently rafa is willing to sell mitro and mbemba because they can’t follow instructions, i think if this is the case we need to sell a few more, rafa surely can’t be telling them to play like that

      • Wor Lass

        Great stuff!

  • dfsgfdg

    this is two championship sides

  • dfsgfdg

if we cannot beat swansea at sjp , we cannot beat any other team in PL

  • Wor Lass

I`m following the Chronic live blog from half time. The only nufc players they`ve mentioned are Hoss, Diame and Clark. Is anyone else out there?

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

Jonjo wasn`t happy with being subbed & i can understand why he was the only player passing the ball forward

      • Wor Lass

Ah, they`ve just mentioned Ritchie – krap free kick!

        • Phil Yare

only decent freekick i’ve seen for 12 months was saivet

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

          hit row 7

  • Phil Yare

just another 13 games till we recall saviet. we’ll get a home win then

  • Phil Yare

    bring on liam o’brien

    • anyobrien

      Oh aye

      • Phil Yare

        andy o’brien would do.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Honest lads, it`s torture watching them

    • Phil Yare

there’s more entertainment in a death camp

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Murphy & Hayden should have been on 20 mins ago for Matt & SloMo

  • Brazilian John

SloMo is the only player that shows his dribbling skills by dribbling the opponent… and himself.

    • Phil Yare

he thinks the pitch is circular

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

    Darlow saves the day again

    • Phil Yare

so we defo need a goalkeeper

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

we need 2 for next week

        • Phil Yare

defo, because he’ll drop one after 2 games despite buying him

    • GToon

Did they nearly win it with bonys shot?

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

yes they did, panic all round

      • Phil Yare

        aye

        • GToon

          F .. sake!

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

    Dire
    Fatso Out, Sack the Board

  • Phil Yare

great point. solid tactics saw us through.

  • Brazilian John

Is there any place were we can declare our love for Amanda?
    She needs to know that!

    Amanda.. We love you!!! S2

    • Phil Yare

if your brazilian you’ll probably get a game and you’ll have to save us. unless your fumaca

  • Phil Yare

i wish everyone would riot and chuck his sportsdirect tat on the pitch either broken or on fire

    • nufcslf

Would love to see that. Need some good old fashioned skinheads to come back and have a word with his tacky signs.

  • nufcslf

Really makes your weekend worth waiting for….Something has to give, even if it is fatty saying the club isn’t for sale and Rafa walks. This plus silence is criminal.

  • Peaky Magpie

I’m on a triple “waiting to be approved” so I’ll let you make your own minds up what I’m trying to say ???

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

use slang they hardly pick it up

      • Peaky Magpie

Went google translate to Spanish the other day and it confused the f**k out of them !

    • paul mclaughlan

How did that bloke swear the other day?

      • Peaky Magpie

I’ve got no idea but it was full on ?

  • GToon

We might want to start the game without Diame in the team. That would boost confidence all round. Merino did well last week so he misses out. What are these tactics about? I preferred Keegan’s approach of letting them worry about us. I know we haven’t got the players but come on. Swansea . At home. Just a point. Like I keep saying. Who can we beat? Stoke and West Ham and that’s it.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

There`s more life in a Tramps vest than that team of ours

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Rafa`s post match interview will be in Spanglish,
so don`t expect insight into the game or transfers

    • GToon

10 pence, he says “it was important not to lose the game”!

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

Plus, we must cut out the mistakes & work harder

        • GToon

“We must work together as a team”

          • 1957

            Keep working hard in training…

          • GToon

            We are talking to agents…

        • Peaky Magpie

          I don’t think it’s him,it’s a Rafabot on repeat & play.

      • StevieB

And he’ll mention that he doesn’t know what his effing budget is and that it’s important to work hard in the next game , sick of hearing the same pony to be honest now . I knew we’d blow our toes of today , stoke counts for nowt now .

        • GToon

Does working hard involve Diame in the team? How can it by definition alone? There’s working hard and there’s working clever. Both of them should see Diame out of the match day squad. I didn’t go today but did the announcer say “enjoy the game” or has even he wised up?

          • hetonmag

Easy target have a look at other players man.

          • GToon

I don’t think we can look at others. His position in the team is pivotal. Literally. Try watching from behind the goal and watch when he picks the ball up. He literally hasn’t got a clue. You can’t play poor players in the engine room. Out on the wing, maybe but not in the middle where the game is won or lost. Typically you need a CDM and a CAM. The CDM needs to tidy up, be quick over the pitch, break the play up and give it when he wins it. The CAM needs to be quick, tricky and be able to pick a pass. Diame is neither of those. I also think he doesn’t track back enough. Our best CDM is Saivet from what I have seen. Our best CAM is Merino from what I have seen. But more often than not we get Diame and Shelvey. Shelvey can play CDM if he is given time and not pressed but I don’t see Diame fitting in anywhere really.

          • Phil Yare

he says ‘enjoy the game’ but thats like saying ‘chew s**t for 90 mins then swallow

        • Danimal

8 points from the last 5 games. 3 points above the line. It’s going to a painfully slow ‘march’ to safety. Nothing we didn’t already know last August.

      • gallowgate26

I’ll bet you my car, savings and pet chinchilla he says it was important to ‘work ‘ard’

      • Danimal

He’d be right though. If we’d managed bore draws at home to Bournemouth, Leicester and Everton, we’d be looking in decent shape.

  • GToon

One year when le tissier scored his usual winner against us I ripped up three shirts and put my NUFC slippers and jeans in the bin with them and went generally berserk.
These days after games like this I just go downstairs and make the tea. Thanks mike for bringing me to my senses.

    • Phil Yare

same here….even my andy cole and rob lee posters got ripped off the wall then put them up the week after when we put it right. i was ruthless

      • GToon

I cudnt undo the ripped shirts unfortunately. It was the adidas home one, the battleship blue away one and the 1992 different stripe one and the ASICS one. What a waste of money. I went mental. Funny looking back.

        • Danimal

I used to break stuff when listening to us (regularly) losing away games in the last minute, to the soundtrack of Charles Harrison, who was always so far behind the play that you never had those few crucial seconds to prepare and compose yourself ahead of the inevitable metaphorical kick in the guts. Happy days.

        • Phil Yare

totally. but thats because it was worth it then. now its not worth getting too upset about it.

      • GToon

Have you seen the scene in trainspotting 1 where begbie discovers he’s been robbed and smashed the hotel rom up. It was similar to that. I remember not having the strength to tear the slippers and saliva running out of my mouth.

    • nufcslf

Much the same. Just have to switch it off and it is like it never happened. I sometimes still try to get mad and then find myself numb that it is so bad from top to bottom and nothing seems to be said…other than here…to make it change.

      • GToon

My mate used to go so mad his wife just left him in the front room. Once her friend came round and quietly asked her if he’d had some bad news, you know like a death in the family. He was hilarious. Smashed the arm off his couch once and had to be calmed by his brother for trying to rip the badges off his tracky top. He’s was in his forties at the time, front garden, neighbors looking out and him going mental. And thats when we had a good team!!!!!

  • jack

Why are we playing this way at home , one striker and diame , we should be going for it at home , and how does Diame get picked week in week out

    • Phil Yare

now now…if rafa had £700m things would be different

      • jack

If he had 700 million I’m beginning to think he would still pick Diame

        • hetonmag

He wasn’t the worst NUFC player today.

          • GToon

            Who was?

          • hetonmag

            Clarke.

          • 1957

            Ritchie

          • hetonmag

            Correct.

          • Phil Yare

there are always plenty of nominees for that award

          • hetonmag

            That’s for sure.

        • robbersdog

          LOL!

        • 1957

That’s guaranteed, some people bizzarly believe the Chronicle’s fantasy he is up for sale

    • 1957

Benitez bought him…and he apparently trains really well

      • Phil Yare

i think 52,000 should turn up for the training and no one turn up for the matches

        • paul mclaughlan

Play PL games at the training ground.

          • Phil Yare

aye, the pressure at st james park is too much. we would win every game if 52,000 cheered for the other team

        • 1957

Training must be much better than matches

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

            we win every game

          • 1957

Are you sure? I doubt we score

    • GToon

      To avoid defeat.

      • jack

The object is to win , and play your best team

        • GToon

I know that, you know that …….

          • 1957

…but its not in the manager’s mentality

          • hetonmag

Apart from Manquilo (who nobody likes) and Gayle were the two changes from the team that took 3, points off Stoke, so it would be good to see your choice of team today.

          • Danimal

Apart from pantomime villain Diame, it was surely the most attacking and fan-pleasing line-up available? Four out and out attackers, who else does that? Splitting hairs, you could have made it five, with Joselu alongside Gayle and/or sacrificed a defender to accommodate Murphy. I think the problem might not be the formation but just maybe the players aren’t good enough.

          • hetonmag

People where pretty much happy and unanimous on the message board when the team was announced but look at the response after the game, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

          • GToon

That’s maybe the case but confidence and the fact we have not had a right go to win earlier on in the season when the pressure was off are now costing us. Today was a must not lose game. When we played Bournemouth it should have been an all out attack because now when we play them it will be panic stations. Ditto for Huddersfield, Burnley etc etc. We defend far too much for my liking. Attack is the best form of defence as they say. Now I’m not sure if Rafa plays like this as he thinks the team are that bad that they will get hammered if they attack teams. Dunno.

          • hetonmag

Howay G Toon we absolutely hammered Bournemouth in the first half and but for a terrible decision by the linesman we would have won that game.

          • GToon

The offside for Gayle? But the getting at every team needs to be the norm for 90 mins not 45. We hammer teams the way I do against my daughter in the back garden – pass it all around her and then give her a nice shot so she can save it. Just not good enough and the more it goes on the more I wonder what on earth Mitro has done to never get selected.

          • GToon

Not Diame, replaced by Merino and Mitrovic up front (I’m sure he isn’t injured). And 50p to everybody who has a shot. I’d put Mitro up there with Perez who is in form at the moment. The defence was fine on paper. My change to push forward and win it would be to take Merino off, put Saivet on and push Shelvey forward.

        • mentalman

not when the owner can’t get rid of you and the majority of the fans will accept whatever you do and however you have the team playing

          • jack

Your right , but no manager is beyond criticism , that includes Rafa , surely he must see what every other fan is seeing , surely he must realise that our home points tally is disgusting , he keeps playing the same old players who have had chance upon chance , is it because they’re his signings ? I think mitrovich is still the best striker we have , and mbemba one of our better defenders ,Mitrovich has played 89 mins up to now and I think you can cut your nose off to spite your face too many times , and then there’s Saviet, starred against west ham then not heard of since , the mind boggles

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Gayle`s injured, that leaves the Hoss & the Serb who has a Spanish Stiletto blade lodged in his back

    • Andy Mac

      So injured then ? 🤔

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

        Yip

    • 1957

Hoss, Perez and SloMo will all have to be injured before Mitrovic gets a start, that stiletto is in deep and is twisted

    • Phil Yare

might suit rafas tactics of 4-6-0

      • TheNutJob

        5-5 is better

        • Phil Yare

          i like 4-1-1-1-1-1-1-0

    • Peaky Magpie

That’s f***ed his move to Fulham then.

  • gallowgate26

Ha. So much for Houghton and Wagner pulling away from Rafa…Like I said they’re rubbish and will be lucky to stay up, just like us..

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

so they are, but we aren`t exactly the Barcelona of the North East

      • mentalman

we are compared to the rest in the north east

  • Peaky Magpie

The useless bloody mackems aren’t even going to stay in the EFL so we can play them next season.

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

            Least i didn`t tell you

  • robbersdog

Alan Shearer may be 47, but I reckon we should re-sign him, get him fit and bring him on for the last 10 minutes of games like this one. Remember, Stanley Matthews and George Foreman did OK at that age, so why not?

OK, it sounds a bit desperate…but I’m feeling a bit desperate!

    • Danimal

Ashley would probably sign George Formby. On loan.

      • Peaky Magpie

        “Leaning on the goalpost………”

  • TheNutJob

We could have won if Leazes had shouted penalty

  • Peaky Magpie

Pep’s not going to sleep all next week after that !

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

      and Jezza

      • Jezza

I’m getting to the stage where I’m almost past caring.

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

          i know the feeling Jezza

        • Peaky Magpie

It’s soul destroying & embarrassing Jezza,it really is.

  • kingfisher

The players will feel at home next season, as they are all Championship standard at best, and that’s where we will be playing next season after this garbage. I posted a comment earlier that if we couldn’t comprehensively beat Swansea then we are doomed. On this showing 2 or 3 new faces won’t be enough to save us, even if M.A. does put his hand in his pocket !

    • Phil Yare

and nobody will invest after the transfer window has closed or with minimal time to do anything as its too risky
heres too another 10 years under ashley

people will keep on buying the wonga/ fun88888 tat, drink at NINE bar, pretend the good times are coming back whilst money continues to be sucked out the club

if rafa goes it wont make any difference. with him in charge nobody has a chance of succeeding

      • kingfisher

        Well said 👍👍👍

      • Danimal

The ghost of Bobbi Clarko from Monkseaton would probably read that and think you are praising the zero hours, zero charm fireplace vandal.

        • Monkseaton Magpies

When Rafa plays Diame ahead of Merino and Haydn if I was Ashley would not give him a five pound note to spend on players a disgrace.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

we have to rely on other teams being worse than us

      • Jezza

That has been Fat Ashley’s strategy all along.

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

Course it is & he`ll roll the dice again but looking at the fixture list we won`t get anywhere near 40 pts & to be frank i think we`ll go down

        • Monkseaton Magpies

Any manager who plays Diame ahead of Merino and Hayden should have all transfer funds with drawn for ever and not given a penny more the worst player I have seen in fifty years of following this club is Rafa on drugs.

          • Danimal

Well it seems like you’re getting your wish re. transfer funds. As for the drugs…

      • kingfisher

Too true Moose. That’s our only hope, Brighton, Huddersfield, Swansea etc.

        • Danimal

At least it’s a realistic hope. Huddersfield -20 GD now. Same for Stoke. Fine margins.

    • Danimal

When we won there earlier in the season it was considered a shock. We are six points ahead of them (and ahead of experienced PL teams like Stoke, WBA and Southampton) because we have overperformed. You are right, the squad is Championship standard, so why would we expect to comprehensively beat any of these teams? I’m far from happy with where Ashley has placed us in the food chain but for now, that is the reality.

      • kingfisher

Thought with Swansea being bottom, it was one of the few games we could actually win and get 3 points, 2 Championship teams scrapping it out.You are right : we are where we are !

        • Danimal

Sadly, yes. Two years ago we were losing these games. And we had a much better squad then.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Leazes must be doing his Shaolin exercises

    • Peaky Magpie

      😂😂

  • HarryHype59

I noticed that none of Rafa’s summer signings started today. That sums up the part of the problem for me!

If Rafa had brought in an EPL level striker in the summer, we would have won today.

    • hetonmag

And what sort of money are we talking about Harry, you didn’t want Murphy (12m) you didn’t want Jos (5m) you didn’t want Lejuine (8m) that’s as you say 25m wasted now how are you going to persuade the fat lad to part with that + wages. And remember we have yet to break our transfer record.

      • HarryHype59

I would have preferred to see Rafa bring in a £30m striker, rather than spend £12m on Murphy, £8m on Lejeune and 10m for Hoss and Manky. None of the above have made any significant impact!

If he had done this, we wouldn’t be in a relegation scrap.

        • hetonmag

Never made an impact Murphy made the goal that got us 3 vital points against Stoke.

          • HarryHype59

One assist for a £12m player doesn’t justify his fee. He could turn out to be a decent player, however, we can’t afford to take “ones for the future” this season.

          • Phil Yare

            absolutely right.

          • HarryHype59

He may turn out to be a decent player when we are back in the Championship.

The combined wages bill for those lot, will be far higher than that of one EPL standard striker!

        • Danimal

I’m struggling to think of a club that has one £30m (and commensurate wages) star striker, surrounded by a squad of Championship bargains. Possibly because it would be such a huge risk or possibly because that type of player wouldn’t dream of coming to such a club.

          • HarryHype59

The starting eleven didn’t have one single Benetiz summer 2017 signing in it! Rafa went for quantity over quality in the previous window and it has back fired.

I’ll bet the combined wages of the championship level players he signed last summer, exceed that of one EPL quality forward.

  • Andy Mac

We are the fifth lowest scoring team in the PL this season ! I wonder how many of those other other clubs leave a third striker to go shopping in the Metro Centre every weekend ?

    • Phil Yare

i remember seeing dennis wise shopping in eldon square when we were away one saturday thinking ‘what does he get paid for?’

      • Andy Mac

Maybe Fatman employed him as a Sht Direct secret shopper ?
