  • mentalman

    I give up

  • Asen Aleksiev

omg, perez to get the goals…we are done here

  • Asen Aleksiev

how come you start with no striker in such important game ?!

    • joe mac

      have we got one?

  • Paul Patterson

Looks like he hoping for another containment job and then bring on Gayle later on.
    Bring on a snoozefest . .

  • joe mac

cant see the logic in this like!

    • Dillon Tovak

Is Rafa doing a Barton on the side?

  • Asen Aleksiev

so if we concede first its game over apparently

  • Alreet

What did we say about the west ham lineup??. Not what we expect but lets see. Pace to burn up top. He might turn it into a 4 2 4 formation.

  • 5floorshigh

so just when you thought the starting line could not get any more baffling…….we are now starting with 10…..?

    • TheNutJob

      😂😂😂😂
      it`s a cunning plan

  • Asen Aleksiev

BHA and Bournemouth are playing for their lives as it seems to be a very tough tasks for us to keep the distance from the teams around , with that scrappy team of ours

  • Simon Ritter

I was hoping we would start with 11 on the pitch, at least. Shelvey has been mistakenly omitted. Is that an omen, Mr Porter?

  • Asen Aleksiev

shelvey all bounded for a transfer if anyone play 10/12 mil . He seems to be out of favor and another player in the black list of benitez

    • Clarko

You do realise that he’s in the starting eleven right?

      • TheNutJob

        😂😂😂

      • Dillon Tovak

In his defence they’ve missed his name out in the article.

        • TheNutJob

there is no defence against Clarko

        • Clarko

So he thought that we were starting with 10 players?

          • Dillon Tovak

            Maybe he didn’t count?

          • Clarko

And he didn’t see Shelvey in the title?

      • anyobrien

Ha ha was thinking the same.

  • TheNutJob

Park the bus, bring on the dynamic duo Hoss & Dwight in the last quarter &
    pagger them

  • jack

He’s definitely lost the plot , I give up with benitez

    • Dillon Tovak

This line up is pretty mental i’ll give you that.

    • anyobrien

We said the same at West ham and look what happened

      • TheNutJob

        True

      • jack

saviet played at west ham , and not been heard of since , Merino on bench too , I’m surprised that certain players have not had enough

    • nevfur

Lost the plot and …… er…. wins. That’s why he’s a manager and the all knowing on here aren’t

  • Asen Aleksiev

i doubt we can keep them quiet before we score first
it looks like that game vs burnley

  • Paul Patterson

    4-6-0 in all but name . .

    • TheNutJob

Rafa`s redefining the book on tactics
      😁😁

    • Albert Stubbins

I advocated this last week but with gayle as a false number nine instead of Perez. I reckon it could work. Saivet in for slomo and Gayle up top would be my changes.

  • Leicester Mag

Is he picking teams with a pin at present?

    • TheNutJob

      don`t be silly, it`s T leaves

      • Leicester Mag

I wish the T who owns us leaves!

        • Albert Stubbins

          Ha ha nice one.

    • anyobrien

Three behind perez are quick… Let’s just wait and see.

      • Albert Stubbins

Diame is a lot of things but quick? That’s not one of them!!

        • anyobrien

          Richie, atsu, Murphy

          • Albert Stubbins

Yes you’re right about them. I think Diame would be better as CDM as he is about as much a threat going forward as a one legged dwarf. Apologies to any dwarfs that may be reading this.

  • ghostrider

    Rafa is a cryptic.
    Rafa is an enigma.
Rafa is an untouchable genius, the best we’ve ever had…..right?…..right?…….right?
Rafa the gaffer is having a right laffer.

He’ll get lauded as a genius if he wins this game and if he gets beat he’ll be lauded as a genius regardless.

    • mentalman

Its always going to be ashleys fault so he can do what he wants

      • ghostrider

        I suppose you’re right.

    • nevfur

Rafa the genius having a laffer must be a song there somewhere

  • mentalman

Lets see how rafa brigade defend this one, he’s forfeited the midfield and obviously isnt planning on us scoring

    • Vladimir Biggski

      Eh? Div

      • mentalman

        A well constructed intelligent response

    • Albert Stubbins

Hoping for goals from midfield when you’ve got strikers who can’t score seems logical enough for me to grasp.

      • mentalman

Apart from west ham you’ve got to go back to 21st october for a goal from midfield

        • Albert Stubbins

Yes but West ham was recent so why not do it again? This negativity Is fu**** embarrassing. Anyone who thinks differently should p*** off to Sunderland.

    • Geordiegiants

I remember people like yourself with comments like this before wet spam. What a bunch of mugs they looked after. Try for once in your life being positive, fair enough after the match if we get beat, but this sort of shyte before the game, whats the point in being a so called fan.

      • anyobrien

Well said… They will be praying for us to lose its pathetic and embarrassing.

      • mentalman

Please prove me wrong but im sure before the west ham game i said i was pleased to see saivet playing

      • Damon Horner

Same thing again. Slaughtered for selection. Won the game.

        • Geordiegiants

Idiots man, we are all at rock bottom, and can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, but we are supporters, and that’s what we are supposed to do.

    • anyobrien

Ffs we have not kicked off yet and what’s the rafa brigade

    • Albert Stubbins

By the Rafa brigade you are of course referring to 99% of supporters. What should we call the other 1% then? Oh I know, how about tw. Ats?

      • mentalman

Again the comments descend into childish insults because someone has a different opinion and not blindly supported rafa

        • Albert Stubbins

Stop demeaning people by referring to them as implied simpletons then and you’ll get a respectful answer back!!

          • mentalman

Please englighten me as to when i implied someone was simple

          • Albert Stubbins

The Rafa brigade, like we’re dumb sheep blindly following. Don’t even bother denying it. Support the team if you’re a Newcastle supporter.

          • mentalman

It wasnt an implication of anyone being simple but i guess its ok for pro rafa fans to come up with their little names but its not ok for those of us who criticise questionable decisions.

Its very similar to you questioning whether i am an actual fan because i question the managers decisions

    • Geordiegiants

      Need I say anymore.

      • mentalman

Apart from a great defensive display and goal keeping things could have been totally different

Had we played a striker from the start the result would hsve probably been a lot better

        • Geordiegiants

We got three points man, and still negatives!

          • mentalman

Im delighted we got 3 points but we scored 1 goal against the premier leagues worst defence.

If we’d played like that against brighton we’d most likely have beaten them

          • Geordiegiants

Supporter, it’s a self explantiary word.
If’s, woulds and could’s, if Jabba had never bought us, if Monsours had bought us, if Keegan had never left, we would of or possibly could of won the league.
Be happy support the lads man, there is enough going on around as a distraction than fans still moaning when we win because they should of beat Brighton. FFS man what are you going on about?

  • robbersdog

Another bizarre line-up from Rafa; this time he’s playing without a recognised centre-forward. Having said that, whether Joselu is or isn’t a ‘recognised centre-forward’ is open to debate.

This could go either way: If it works and we get a decent result, he’ll be a genius; but if we lose, Rafa’s six-man midfield will look like an ultra-defensive mistake.

We need at least a draw out of this game, but as John Cleese said in Clockwise…It’s not the despair, I can take the despair. It’s the hope that kills me.

  • Down Under Mag

Missed that Shelvey is starting as well.

Joselu gets dropped and fans criticise, he starts they criticise, the manager just can’t win.

I actually don’t think this is a bad line up to be honest. Shelvey there to thread the needle, keep the midfield tight but plenty of pace to try and cause issues for the Stoke defence. I think it’s more a 4-3-3 if the likes of Atsu and Murphy push on when they can…it’s just a pity that Perez isn’t the type of forward we need to be able to play this formation well. Would have liked to see Aarons given some more time but not even on the bench…strange. Oh well, time will tell.

    • TheNutJob

Hoss is best where he is & that`s nowhere near the first 11

  • TheNutJob

i thought he`d go 2 up top against the worse defence in the league, buy hey never say never, 4-6-0 may actually work
    😂

  • Damon Horner

If Rafa keeps the same failing system. He’s wrong. If he tries something a bit different. He’s wrong.

This lineup isn’t far from the strongest lineup in truth when you factor in Gayle, Merino and Hayden’s potential fitness trouble.

  • Anita kick up the Hoop

Centre midfield abandoned abs no presence up front .. is Rafa trying to pick our most ineffective team here? … the problem is AGAIN that Rafa believes the sport is all about managers and tactics rather than players and footballers … he’s got to have lost the dressing room with his treatment of players and his incomprehensible team selections.
Please let us take three point against all odds today.

  • Asen Aleksiev

i hope that miss of atsu does not cost us the game

  • Leazes Ender

    Penalty to United

    • Asen Aleksiev

hey stop spamming with that penalty scrap every time shut up

    • Wor Lass

      Not funny.

      • TheNutJob

        😂😂😂

  • Asen Aleksiev

omg clark , we gonna lose that one, atsu and clark cost us the game

    • DC1964

We should be 2-0 up, how the hell did Clark miss that chance?!!!

  • Stephen Paylor

How does Diame get picked ahead of merino? Where is Aarons?

    • TheNutJob

Merino`s knackered he looked done in on Saturday

    • Mitros gotta start

What has saivet done to deserve getting dropped in favour of hayden and slo mo?

  • Asen Aleksiev

such horrible lack of individual quality , every one of them deserve to go down and stay in championship
    terrible

    • anyobrien

      Aye stoke are cobblers

    • anyobrien

Well well well eh away win… You need to keep your powder dry until it’s all over

  • TheNutJob

we should be ahead, looks like we need a Penalty to win this

  • Duh

Very dominant there, demonstrates the lack of quality we have.

    • DC1964

      Especially a goal scorer!

      • Duh

Yeah the defense up until now has looked comfortable

        • DC1964

Defensively we are okay, we don’t concede many. It’s the lack of creativity and goals where we suffer.

          • Duh

Need to win games like this, worrying when we don’t

          • DC1964

Yep, definitely. I think we will win today though.

  • anyobrien

Plenty of chances need to be finished
    Doing OK though

    • TheNutJob

Clark wan`t shooting for missing that chance

  • TheNutJob

we can take all 3 points here.

    • DC1964

      I think we will.

      • TheNutJob

watch the Hoss come on & score
        😀😀

        • DC1964

          Ha, that would be great!

        • gallowgate26

Should put a bet on Bet365. Then it’s like insult to injury for the Stoke owner.

    • Wor Lass

What odds are Bet Victor giving? Ask Leazes if you don`t know. lol

      • TheNutJob

final ball in is letting us down

  • Asen Aleksiev

it is a typical newcastle away game vs bottom team, dont want to predict what happens if we do not score until 70 mins

  • TheNutJob

Brilliant save by Karl the Kat

    • DC1964

Outstanding save. He’s having an assured game.

      • TheNutJob

our final ball is like watching school kids

  • Alreet

Need gayle on now. Perez is pointless up on his own

  • TheNutJob

next training session for Rafa, teach them how to pass a ball

  • Asen Aleksiev

dont remember when we won such a massive and even game

  • Asen Aleksiev

we need to score first please

  • Dave Mitchison

    Atsu off? Wtf?

    • Soldier

      my thoughts exactly

    • Wor Lass

      Injury, maybe?

      • Dave Mitchison

        Injury?

  • Alreet

    Now the game can start

  • DC1964

    Should have had a penalty

    • Danimal

Another one to add to the long list.

    • TheNutJob

      we don`t get pens

  • Soldier

one thing about this match Shelvey needs to play every match & another is we need a striker

    • Mitros gotta start

We have 1….rafa wont play him…..and shelvey and darlow will be gone by the end of january

  • Dave Mitchison

    Get in

  • TheNutJob

    GOAL Perez

  • DC1964

    Totally deserved

  • TheNutJob

    Perfect ball in from Murph

  • Alreet

We need a second to kill it

    • DC1964

Definitely, and to also shut moaning Mark Hughes up!

    • Geordiegiants

The Hoss will get that for us.

  • TheNutJob

Man of the match, Karl the Kat, another brilliant save

    • DC1964

      Brilliant save just there

  • Wor Lass

Ryder reckons Murphy`s having a great game.

    • TheNutJob

      playing well

  • TheNutJob

Another save from Darlow brilliant, hanging on as usual

  • Dave Mitchison

Hucking Fell we’re riding our luck

  • TheNutJob

same old story, we score then go into a shell

  • TheNutJob

    The Mighty Toon take thepoints

  • Damon Horner

4 points clear from relegation and 13th place. Good effort lads.

    • anyobrien

      Brilliant

  • Wor Lass

What a brilliant manager we`ve got!

    • TheNutJob

Karl the Kat saved us today

      • DC1964

He was outstanding, great saves and dealt with all the high balls.

    • anyobrien

No man he’s the problem at the club

      • TheNutJob

        Not today

      • Damon Horner

We should get a proper manager who goes for it like Hughes!

        • Vladimir Biggski

          Lol

      • Vladimir Biggski

        Get Jeremy corbyn in

        • anyobrien

          Christ

          • Vladimir Biggski

            lol

      • Geordiegiants

Ha ha, I’m very surprised you never got a bite.

  • DC1964

    Phew! Happy New Year everyone!

  • Albert Stubbins

Yeeeeeeesssss!!happy new year lads and lasses.

  • Soldier

we don`t need a keeper but we need a striker & another midfield player

    • Vladimir Biggski

We need to get rid of Mike Ashley. This is a turning point for us, if he goes everything will fall into place with Rafa in the dugout. But if that fat piece of shat doesn’t sell up and f’off we will rot.

      • nufcslf

Couldn’t agree more. Not negative, but just bottom line truth of the sad state of affairs. A good away win just doen’t deflect my hate for 10 + years of fatso.

    • Mayor Vaughn

I agree on the keeper, i think a new left back would be nice also.

  • scumtest

Stop moaning! FFS we won, have a beer and enjoy the table! Nice one Rafa, keep the boo boys quiet 🤫
P.s always good to beat whining Mark Hughes

  • Mayor Vaughn

Said to my youngest a couple of months ago i’d be pretty happy with 20 points by the turn of the year, 22 on new years day is really good going i reckon.

    • Soldier

3 against Swansea in our next league game will do fine

      • scumtest

This would be perfect. 5 months to grab another 15pts! Safe, fatty hopefully sells and Rafa starts to get better players to kick up the table… 👌🏻

        • Mayor Vaughn

Would be cutting it fine and i hope it doesn’t come to it but 36 points is usually enough lol

      • Mayor Vaughn

        Would be perfect mate

    • Jezza

      Especially with a Championship squad.

  • Mirandinha9

Happy with 3 points, but, Cashley will never provide Rafa with any funds now with that win. Cashley’s belief will be we can finish 17th without any investment, so, why should he dip his hand in his pocket? I predict there will be no acquisitions by Jan 20th when Rafa wants players in. Consequently, i fear the worst. Today’s win will have ramifications.

    • TheNutJob

thanks for putting a downer on a great win today

      • Andy Mac

If we hadnt beaten a hapless bunch of mediocre misfits there would have been questions asked in the House !

      • Mirandinha9

Mark my words, there will be no additions now in January, unless PCP partners are in place before the end of the transfer window.

        • Damon Horner

He’s a fool and he gambles. Is he that stupid though?

          • Jezza

            Yes.

          • nufcslf

            Yes #2

    • anyobrien

Ffs let’s enjoy for a bit

      • Phil

The ref has just blown the whistle for full time after an away win and the negativity has started already! Hahaha

        • anyobrien

          It’s hard work isn’t it mate ffs….

        • nufcslf

And won’t ever rest until fatty finally f**ks off one day. Nothing ever changes.

    • Vladimir Biggski

I tend to agree Mira, it has been noticeable that ashleys minions have turned up the heat on Rafa in the media too, set up for no serious investment. He has no intention of selling, he simply wants to pocket the £100m tv money.

    • Jezza

Don’t worry, today’s result won’t change a thing. There was never going to be any money for new signings in January.

    • nufcslf

Isn’t it a shi** y way to have to think. Had the same conversation with my dad all the way here in Vancouver. Casley out!!!!

  • Clarko

    Phew!

  • robbersdog

Ayoze scores, Darlow plays a blinder, we get three points and Sunderland lose at home.

Happy f*cking New Year to us!

    • Alreet

      Yes

    • TheNutJob

That`s what you call a great New Year !

    • Shields Mag

Ha ha fantastic New Year!! HWTL….

    • Albert Stubbins

To the might Barnsley as well. What a day is been. So happy!!

  • Saul Williams

What a result!pulling away from relegation zone.Rafa! I love you.

  • Leicester Mag

This takes a lot pressure off massive result. Again feared the worst at the off but one thing we are is hard to beat with Lascelles and Clark at the heart of the defence. If only we looked to build on this.

    • DC1964

A brilliant defensive display today, should have had another goal on the break in the last 15 mins. Stoke were awful!

    • scumtest

These 2 are our best defenders without a doubt. Clarkey seems to feed off the confidence of big J

      • Andy Mac

Everyone praising Lascelles today then some wnkr suggests a big club might come in for him ? Dont you just love pundits ?

        • robbersdog

The thing is…one of the ‘big’ clubs bidding for Lascelles has to be a possibility.

          • Jezza

Or to be more precise Fatty hawking Lascelles round the so called big clubs this window has to be more than a possibility.

        • scumtest

Yup! Sad thing is fatty would happily sign the transfer paperwork off on the bonnet of his car when he finally disappears 😡

        • Jezza

I know and the thing is Lascelles is already at a big club.

      • Albert Stubbins

Agreed. When Jamaal went off in last fifteen of bournmouthe game our season nosedived. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

    • anyobrien

      Aye great clean sheet

      • Jezza

…and only one goal conceded in three games and even that was against the mighty Money City.

    • thewildchimp

Said it two years ago: Lascelles could be an England player given time and he uses that time well under Benitez. He has it all, only needs to work on reading the game and positioning but that usually comes with age.

      • Jezza

Yes and sadly you can guarantee Ashley will be looking to cash in on him in the January window.

  • Alreet

Great result. Fine performance. It wasnt the ritz but we dont have ritz money.

Bot teams tired towards the end so very happy with a single goal.

Darlow MOM for me and clark in a close second.

This was a grind of a result and there will be more to come.

We despo need a striker and no. 10 in the window.

    • Vladimir Biggski

We do have ritz money, it just all goes into Mike ashleys back pocket

      • Jezza

        Spot on.

      • nufcslf

        Too bloody true.

  • thewildchimp

Sigh, this club… Gonna earn me a heart attack at the age of 31… Darlow MoM!

A Happy New Year and Howay the Lads!!!

  • HTL

we ground that one out, hung on at the end and still got the three points, well done Rafa and the lads. HTL

  • Grahame Johnson

To all the outside experts on the toon. to know who we are and what we are about you have to be one of us, a 52 year old man lying in bed for 2 hours terrified of what mite happen in today’s game then looking at the score isn’t normal, but as we sing we are mental and we are mad

    • Albert Stubbins

Snap!! Except I’m 47. Ha ha great day though mate!! HTL

  • Jezza

No sign of our resident Rafa Out brigade tonight. He’ll be keeping his head down after this result.

  • Tino o

Good performance and result should have scored more when are we going to get a penalty?????

  • hetonmag

All the years of watching the mags we finally have a CB to call top class I always thought Woodgate was our best but unfortunately he was injury prone, but Jamaal in my eyes is the real deal and as long as Rafa stays he will build a team around him.

    • Mitros gotta start

Not if fatty has his way…..he will snap the hands off the 1st club that offers more than 20 mill….call it a leaving present

      • hetonmag

He might not be here hopefully.

        • Mitros gotta start

I know he is…..wont stop fatty taking the 1st £20 million that is offered to him on his way oot the door…..call it a little leaving bonus

I don’t think Lascelles would want to leave. Here, he is a number 1 choice and a team captain, plus he looks like he enjoys the environment. While in another club like, let’s say, Pool, with an erratic manager or pragmatic ManU, he’d have a hard time. The lad is pretty down to earth.

I dont think andy carroll wanted to leave either…..he had no choice in the end….if fatty gets a chance to trouser another £20 mill and at the same time p1ss everyone off at the club on the way out it would be a double bonus for him.

Just have a look guy’s at the posts before kickoff and give yourselves a laugh at usual poster’s on here, doom and gloom and disbelief at Rafas selection it’s the same one’s all the time I call them the dirty dozen who don’t support the team.

Rafa going 4-6-0 away to stoke and still needing darlow to make 3 great saves to beat the worst team in the league by a country mile doesnt paper over the cracks for me….we couldnt beat brighton at home and the problems have not gone away…..we still only managed 1 point in 27 and rafas constant changing of the team means we will still be in the clarts in may……add to that the fat pig not putting his hand in his pocket in yet another window and you would think we were going for a champions league spot according to some on here
