The Newcastle team v Chelsea has just been confirmed.

Rafa Benitez surprised everybody with a strong team for the FA Cup third round game against Luton.

The United boss playing pretty much a first team, apart from Freddie Woodman being given his debut in goal.

Newcastle fans intrigued to see how Rafa Benitez would approach this fourth round match though, with Burnley at home in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

Mbemba, Haidara, Saivet, Gayle, Ritchie all come into the team.

Dummett, Diame, Murphy, Atsu, Joselu drop out.

It looks like Rafa Benitez is once again going with three centre-backs as he did at Manchester City last week.

This is who Rafa Benitez starts with:

Darlow, Manquillo, Mbemba, Lascelles, Clark, Haidara, Shelvey, Saivet, Hayden, Ritchie, Gayle

and the Subs:

Woodman, Yedlin, Dummett, Diame, Atsu, Murphy, Joselu

Chelsea starting 11:

Caballero, Cahill, Christensen, Rüdiger, Alonso, Kanté, Drinkwater, Zappacosta, Hazard, Batshuayi, Pedro

might as well have just handed them the game, i would have done the same, the Burnley game is the one to win. but looking at that team it means he`s playing Diame & Joselu on Wednesday.

    • Whickhamrobbie

Rubbish Play your strongest team every game .I dont believe all this resting rubbish .
Change for tactical reasons yes but tiredness/resting ?? do me a favour

      • JonMag

tell that to Pep,Jose, Rafa, & Conte i`m sure they`d welcome your advice

        • Whickhamrobbie

True but Pep,Jose and Conte have better reserves .
Just Look what happened to Spuds and Pool yesterday .
I would love to win the cup but saving player.s for Burnley ??
What have our club became ?
We must win ALL our games if possible including cup ties.

F*cking hell – Haidara (I didn’t realise that he was still on our books) in midfield alongside Saivet!

Let’s hope it doesn’t turn out to be as bonkers on grass as it looks on paper.

  • Whickhamrobbie

Saivet and Hayden will have Hazard in their pocket (probably)he aint that good if he,s only worth 150 mill.

  • Mrkgw

Shambolic starting line up. Thats us out of the cup then.

  • TwinFire

dont worry lads, Saviet has a 100% start to goal ratio! He will curl in a belta of a free kick, just you wait!

  • MadMag83

May as well have played eleven blokes out of the crowd. A 5 man defence yet somehow Batshit has acres of space to score, twice! If you’re gonna park the bus at least do it properly.

Can’t wait for next season in the Championship lads!

What position is Clark supposed to be playing? At fault for both goals as per usual we’re [email protected] up front aswell!

    • mentalman

He’s been poor for a few games now

I honestly cannot see any advantage at all to N.U.F.C competing in the Cup and playing this game! We have more chance of M.A breaking the transfer record than we have of winning the Cup ( zero). I know some will say that if we beat Chelsea it will give us more confidence for the next game, which lets face it, is a load of bullocks, as we couldn’t even beat the bottom club Swansea after beating Luton up here. If you subscribe to that viewpoint, then It obviously works both ways in as much that if we get a good sorting out ,then their confidence will be shot.

I’ve always wanted us to give it a good go in the cup, but I believe that this season is different from others. With the proposed takeover maybe going ahead at seasons end, we must try our best to survive and not get side tracked and risk injuries in a competition which we have absolutely no chance of winning!

Why is Benitez persisting with such negative tactics against the top sides? Each time he’s tried this 5 at the back we still get beat, yet it seems the teams who have picked up a few results against the top sides have been those who have been willing to take the game to them and have a go as they’ve got nothing to lose.

I’m sick of this. The lads don’t even know how to move in this formation. Who the hek plays 5 at the back in this day and age?

  • DC1964

Absolutely dreadful game. We’ve just gone through the motions, it’s sleep inducing!

    • thewildchimp

I switched to Feyenoord – Ado game at one point and it was even worse… An awful hour and a half of football in total…

      • DC1964

Ha, I agree, I was nodding off! Last time we took the FA Cup seriously was back in the 90s!

  • Tino o

    Joke club

  • kingfisher

Did anyone honestly expect anything else?
