Charlie Nicholas has been looking ahead to Newcastle v Luton on Saturday.

The Sky Sports pundit predicts plenty of goals at St James Park and the worst possible outcome for Rafa Benitez…

Charlie Nicholas has gone for an FA Cup third round replay which is the last thing the Newcastle manager would want.

Nicholas predicting a 2-2 draw and Rafa having yet another unwanted cup game to deal with, as he tries to concentrate on the main (only…) job of keeping Newcastle in the Premier League.

Charlie Nicholas says ‘I’m expecting Rafael Benitez to make changes’, well Charlie, he made 10 for the League Cup defeat against Forest back in August and I anticipate at least the same on Saturday.

After starving his manager of realistic transfer funds in the summer, Mike Ashley ridiculously said that he expected Newcastle to be in a safe position by January and able to have a real go at winning the FA Cup.

Even more ridiculous was the gimmick of offering a £20m bonus to the players if they win the FA Cup, at the same time as Ashley was refusing to back Rafa Benitez in bringing in the essential signings needed in the summer.

You just couldn’t make it up.

Charlie Nicholas talking to Sky Sports:

“After a great result at Stoke I’m expecting Rafael Benitez to make changes given it has only put Newcastle two points above the drop zone.

“He (Rafa) has not got a big squad and they don’t score a lot of goals, so the idea of a comfortable afternoon is foreign for the St James’ Park faithful.

“In contrast all we hear with Luton is they’re scoring four or five.

“They also have their problems defensively and will come to attack so I’m going for them to get a replay here in what is a really awkward one for Newcastle right now.

“Prediction is Newcastle 2 Luton 2.”

Shows how low we`ve sunk when the pundits don`t even think we can beat a
league 2 side at home. we should field our first 11 and take them to the cleaners.

    • Blackburn1066

he will not and we will get beat

    • Rich Lawson

We should always field the 1st 11 regardless. It speaks volumes Mr Ashley that we are worried about playing a team 3 divisions below us ?

    • Mitros gotta start

Even Rafa the liar doesnt know what his best 11 is

      • wheyayeman

The spanish liar would have an uncomfortable press conference before the next premier league game……the man is a stubborn liar that is gonna take this club down…..again!

    • Geordie-7676

You really are a warped mentalist!

Some of the tripe you come out with is hilarious! Spanish liar?

    • mentalman

why would he have a uncomfortable press conference, Saivet had a great game against west ham but then hasn’t been seen since and its barely been mentioned

The FA cup is becoming the new league cup. It’s basically a lower league club dream and a higher league club pain.

The giant killings are a thing of the past because the big teams send out their youngsters or unfavoured players which turns the entire romance of it all on its head.

I see managers moan and moan time and time again about players needing rest and worry about injuries as an excuse for sending out the reserves.

Let’s change it up and see what happens if there was a champions league place on offer or a 50 million pay day for the finalists, minimum.

How many weakened teams would be playing then?

    • Phil

I agree the strongest team should be put out. 100%

I am 30 years old. So I can remember our almost there season when we threw our lead at the top of the league.

But my favourite memories are the FA cup runs and finals. I remember walking from the Marriott hotel in gosforth to the civic centre along side an open top bus! We had lost the final. But the supporters that day were unreal. Thousands out to acknowledge the effort!

The cup is now seen as an inconvenience. As you pointed out due to money. It’s a disgrace and a shame. Because it was a magical competition!!

I’m a fan of Rafa but I won’t be happy tomorrow when he names his reserve side. Hopefully whoever he puts out doesn’t underestimate or disrespect Luton. They are having a brilliant season and will be tough opposition!

    • Danimal

It’s certainly a shame the way it’s gone. You’re probably right but it’s a disgrace that we should have to pander to clubs’ financial greed and obsession with the CL.
