Alan Shearer thinks one factor could decide Chelsea v Newcastle

Alan Shearer sees possibilities for Newcastle United on Sunday.

The former number nine thinks that much will depend on the team Antonio Conte picks.

After drawing 0-0 at Norwich, in the replay at Stamford Bridge, the Chelsea boss made nine changes from the 11 who had played the previous Premier League match.

In two hours of football Chelsea only managed one goal and were lucky to go through on penalties.

Alan Shearer says that Rafa and his players will have an ‘opportunity’ if Conte sends out a similar strength team.

Whilst Rafa confirmed today that only Jesus Gamez was ruled out on Sunday through injury, Conte admitted that Courtois, Willian and Morata would all definitely miss, whilst Fabregas will have a late fitness test.

Obviously the Premier League is everything this season for Newcastle but a win on Sunday would give everybody connected to NUFC a massive lift.

Alan Shearer speaking to Coral:

“I think that Sunday is an opportunity (for Newcastle).

“I watched the replay of Chelsea against Norwich at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea were slightly fortunate, they got through on penalties and it perhaps should have been different.

“If that Chelsea (team) turns up, the Chelsea that weren’t good enough to beat Norwich over two games in open play, then Newcastle will have an opportunity.

“It was refreshing that Rafa played a strong team in the previous round (3-1 win over Luton).

“Hopefully he (Rafa) will play a strong team again, but if Chelsea play a full strength team, and they are at it 100%, then it will be a very tough for Newcastle.”
