Alan Shearer was pulling no punches as he looks forward to the year ahead.

He states that just like every other Newcastle fan, he is desperate for the club takeover to get done ASAP as it has dragged on long enough.

Alan Shearer says that ‘Mike Ashley has made it clear he wants to sell and doesn’t want to be at Newcastle’ and the sooner that this happens ‘the better for everyone connected to Newcastle’.

The seven points from the three ‘winnable’ games over the festive period has given manager and players a little bit of breathing space but just a quick look at the table tells you how tight it still is.

Newcastle have risen to 13th place and 22 points but they are only six points above bottom side Swansea who have a game in hand and four points ahead of third bottom West Ham who have two games in hand.

As Shearer points out, ‘A new owner needs to come in and give funds to Rafa Benitez to spend in January’.

With Swansea up next (in the Premier League), that is another crucial winnable match, but then the fixture start to pile up against clubs higher in the league, starting with another game against Manchester City.

Rafa and Newcastle United have given themselves a chance with these results but further help in January is essential for the challenges ahead.

Alan Shearer speaking to Coral:

“That (a club takeover) is what everyone hopes and if you’re a Newcastle fan, that is what needs to happen, because this has been dragging on for a while now.

“Mike Ashley has made it clear he wants to sell and doesn’t want to be at Newcastle, so the sooner that it happens the better for everyone connected to Newcastle.

“There’s no doubt about it, Mike Ashley needs to go and a new owner needs to come in, and give funds to Rafa Benitez to spend in January.

“I always expected it to be a long hard season…and that is what it is turning out to be.

“So Rafa Benitez needs to get players in, in January.”

We have to aim for home wins against Swansea, Southampton, Huddersfield and West Brom and then hope to nick a few draws away against the likes of Bournemouth, Watford and Palace. Getting to 37 should be enough this year but the games are running out for sure.

Not if Rafa the liar lines up 4-6-0 again…..better teams than the woefull stoke and brighton will rip us apart…..our man of the match was darlow….against the worst team in the league…..but hey….you would think we had qualified for the champions league the way some on here have been going on

It is a long road ahead, Cashley has to f**k off, but team selection and performance have to be positive from the kick off as well.

Ironically, the win yesterday has probably stabilised the price of the club.
More wins will increase its value.

    Jabba must go!

Hopefully yesterdays win will persuade Staveley & co that we stand a chance of surviving the season and that their investment will be safe. Ashley out!

Winnable games are now going to be in short supply and I can see rearguard actions like Man city becoming the norm for the rest of this season, UNLESS the club is sold. Like others I think if we are no longer relegation candidates the price of the club is higher, its a no brainer, hopefully this mess can be sorted out sooner rather than later. Best case scenario is the deal is done and no one is letting on about it to maximise player transfers. Also I do not think Rafa need to know what his budget is considering he knows the state of play with the liars he has to deal with, all he has to do is give a list of players he wants tp Penfold, knowing his constraints of around £30>40m ( there should be only 4>5 anyway ) and leave the rest to him. Then if non come through the door its not Rafa’s fault, he’s done his best. If he does not get what he wants/needs to keep us up, I wouldn’t blame him leaving, no one likes to be lied to.
