Dennis Wise speaking up on behalf of Mike Ashley, that’s no surprise.
Also, no surprise that it is Sky Sports giving him the platform to do so.
The fact Sky Sports work so closely with Mike Ashley is just so toxic for Newcastle fans, the final insult really when this is now the main way many football fans follow what is happening in the game, and sadly, form their opinions.
Dennis Wise has zero integrity or respect when it comes to talking about Newcastle United.
Kevin Keegan was told by Mike Ashley when he was appointed manager (for the second time) in 2008, that he would be in control and have the final say on all transfers.
Shortly afterwards Dennis Wise was appointed as ‘Executive Director of Football’ at Newcastle United, Keegan though reassured that this changed nothing with regard to his position/authority.
That all proved to be lies as Mike Ashley had appointed Dennis Wise above Kevin Keegan and when the summer 2008 transfer window kicked in, that became 100% apparent to KK.
He made it to the end of that transfer window hoping Mike Ashley would see sense and come good on his transfer promises (where have we heard that before…), only for nothing to change.
Keegan rightly walked out as he could no longer work with Dennis Wise and Mike Ashley, a court hearing later awarded Kevin Keegan £2m for constructive dismissal, having found that Ashley and his minions had constantly lied to him.
Now in the eleventh year of Mike Ashley’s rule, on Wednesday night Dennis Wise yet again tried to tell us that Ashley is only interested in what is good for Newcastle United.
It is really laughable but Wise talks of Ashley putting ‘money into that football club when it had quite a bit of debt’, as though he was a knight in shining armour coming to save some charitable concern.
Any money paid was just like any other business he has bought, it is for his own benefit, not for the benefit of anybody else. Just look at how he treats most of the staff at businesses he ‘saves’.
Dennis Wise says Mike Ashley won’t sell Newcastle United to just ‘anyone’.
Reality of course is that just as John Hall and Freddie Shepherd did, they don’t care who buys Newcastle United just so long as they give them enough money.
Of course we could all be proved wrong and tomorrow could wake up to headline news that Mike Ashley has sold the club for a pound to a syndicate of dedicated Newcastle fans, cute puppies and orphans, but that is difficult to believe, the same as anything that comes out of the mouth of Dennis Wise.
Dennis Wise speaking to Sky Sports:
“People have to realise what Mike Ashley is about…and I don’t think they do.
“He won’t allow that football club to go to (just) anyone.
“I think he wants to know that the next person who takes over that football club is going to take it forward.
“He could probably do a deal with someone really cheaply, get rid of it, get rid of the hassle that he gets time after time, or he can make sure that it goes to someone who he thinks will move that football club forward.
“That’s Mike for you, he’s that type of person.
“You have to realise he put money into that football club when it had quite a bit of debt, I think a quarter of a billion pounds he put into that football club to make sure there was no debt and buy it.
“He put his money where his mouth is there, he runs it in a structured manner because he doesn’t want the football club to get in the same situation as it did before, where it owes money.
“The fans don’t accept him, he knows that, but one thing he will not do is allow that football club to go to someone he doesn’t think will be able to take that forward.”
