West Ham 2 Newcastle 3 – Match ratings of all NUFC players
West Ham 2 Newcastle 3 – Saturday 23 December 2017 3pm
Elliot 7 – If it wasn’t for saving the penalty then it would have been a low rating because he wasn’t very good in all departments. but he was responsible for the key moment in the game which gives him a minimum 7 for me. A massive penalty save. Massive is probably an understatement actually.
Yedlin 7 – Brilliant going forward as per usual. Should have done better with the one chance he did have but linked up with Ritchie well and in the last few games has been our main attacking threat from full back.
Clark 4 – One of his worst performances in an NUFC shirt. I rarely say a bad word about him but he didn’t look fit today. Arnautovic walked past him for the first goal and he didn’t look comfortable all day.
Lascelles 9 – Safe as houses. Look like a far different team with him back in the side. Nothing noteworthy to speak of, which says a lot actually. No doubt that he’s a massive player for us now.
Manquillo 8 – Brilliant defensively and even offered something more going forward. Dummett will be a welcome return to the side but Manquillo can hold his head up high.
Ritchie 8 – Bucked his ideas up since being dropped last week against Arsenal. Looked far more of a threat than usual. Another one who did his job well. Unlucky not to score a great goal after hitting the post.
Diame 8 – For the first half an hour I thought Diame and Saivet were up to their usual tricks but since we got back 1-1 the two of them were brilliant. Diame wasn’t great on the ball granted…but when is he? He got around the pitch well, broke up play and scored a great goal.
Saivet 8 – Would be a 9 or a 10 if it wasn’t for that first goal which was a right howler. Recovered brilliantly with a great free kick and like Diame, they were all over the midfield breaking up play. By no means world beaters today but they did the job Rafa would have asked of them perfectly.
Atsu 9 – Our best player today for me. Going forward he caused West Ham all sorts of problems and put in a good shift defensively too. A real player on his day, it’s just a shame he doesn’t have them most days.
Deserves some credit for the penalty save too. Noticed him have a word in Elliott’s ear before the spot kick. maybe he knew something about his compatriot that we didn’t.
Gayle 6 – Did his best to hold the ball up and link up play. Should have had a goal for himself but missed an absolute sitter.
Joselu 7 – You know what you’re going to get from him now. Won almost everything in the air. Sloppy when the ball is at his feet but does his fair share! A great assist too.
Perez – N/A (Not on long enough)
Mbemba – N/A (Not on long enough)
Murphy – N/A (Not on long enough)
