The latest Sky Sports Power Rankings have been published.
The Power Rankings methodology reflects a player’s performance over the last five matchdays by awarding points to players for 32 different stats.
A heavier weighting is given to the most recent match in descending order to the fifth last one, with the intention of showing who is most in form.
Newcastle’s last five games have been:
Chelsea 3 Newcastle 1
West Brom 2 Newcastle 2
Newcastle 0 Watford 3
Man Utd 4 Newcastle 1
Newcastle 0 Bournemouth 1
No Newcastle player got anywhere near the top 50 players in the latest Power Rankings, hardly surprising considering those last five results.
However, Sky Sports also publish who is the highest rated player for all 20 clubs in each set of power rankings:
You needed over 4,000 points to get into the latest top 50 ranked players and as you can see, Dwight Gayle is currently Newcastle’s highest rated player with 2,547 points.
Only Huddersfield have a highest rated player with lower points than Gayle and that is Aaron Mooy at Huddersfield with 2,053.
Fair play to Dwight Gayle though as he scored against both Chelsea and Man Utd despite the team’s shortcomings in these last five games, plus he didn’t even get on the pitch for the West Brom match.
