Sky Sports have analysed the December fixtures for all 20 clubs to see who has the easiest, and not so easy, set of games to face.
Not good news for Newcastle United, as only Southampton and Brighton are rated as having more difficult festive games.
Sky Sports rated the difficulty by the average league position of the clubs each team has to face.
Newcastle’s opponents in December have an average league position of 8.29 and maybe ominously, Rafa’s team have picked up only one (against Liverpool) of their 15 points against teams who are currently in the top half of the table.
Not great news either that only one of the bottom six (West Ham) feature amongst the nine clubs with the toughest schedules.
These are Newcastle’s seven December fixtures and their current league placings in brackets afterwards:
2 December – Chelsea (3rd)
9 December – Leicester (9th)
13 December – Everton (13th)
16 December – Arsenal (4th)
23 December – West Ham (18th)
27 December – Man City (1st)
30 December – Brighton (10th)
The Sky Sports table:
The Sky Sports write-up on Newcastle’s December fixture list:
‘A dramatic 2-2 draw at West Brom helped Newcastle end their four-game losing streak, but it does not get any easier for Rafa Benitez’s men, who are ranked joint-third in the list based on the fact they face Chelsea, Arsenal and leaders Manchester City, among others.’
After that match against Brighton, Newcastle will have played 21 matches with only 17 remaining.
