The Rafa Benitez Leicester press conference has taken place on Friday lunchtime.

The United boss facing the team that were his first opponents when taking over at St James Park in March 2016.

The result was a narrow 1-0 win at the King Power Stadium, just another victory that helped take the Foxes to their amazing  Premier League title win.

Amazingly, whilst Rafa Benitez and Newcastle were relegated and ended up in the Championship, it is Leicester City who now have their third different manager in the 21 months Rafa has been at Newcastle.

Claude Puel the surprise choice after being sacked by Southampton in the summer after only one season AND the team finishing eighth in the Premier League!

As the media showed their disbelief at why one of the English stellar names such as Pardew, McClaren, Allardyce didn’t get the job, Puel has impressively put together a six game record with only one defeat and that was to Manchester City.

Rafa Benitez accepts his team will need to be at their best if they want to get a first win in seven weeks and what would be only their second in 12 weeks.

A massive boost for the manager though because as well as Christian Atsu being available now, he has also revealed that Jamaal Lascelles is in the squad and could start.

Rafa Benitez Leicester press conference:

“It was amazing what Leicester achieved (in 2015/16), and you can see that they still have some of those players.

“We have to be really, really united if we want to stay in the Premier League.

“(The 125th anniversary) will be important for everyone here, and hopefully we can make the atmosphere a positive one for our players.

“We have to improve as a team to make sure we can compete… We have to maximise what we have.

“Lascelles and Atsu are available. Dummett will play for the under-23s tonight.”

“Hopefully the money that wasn’t spent in August will be available in January” ? Don’t hold your breath senor, how many times do we have to go through this ?? And,any funds available will no doubt be minus the £1.1m the greedy thieving fat b****rd has had to pay back to employees at SD for paying below the minimum wage.

“As the media showed their disbelief at why one of the English stellar names such as Pardew, McClaren, Allardyce didn’t get the job, ….” Really? Is this the Tyneside fanzine media or all of it, because it sees to have passed me by? This is the second comment along these lines today, I think. Surely the Mag has better things to serve up than pathetic cheap shots at guys who did their best but we`re all probably glad to see the back of. Give us a bit of insight, some analysis, a flash of humour and/or a dose of nostalgia. There`s far too much of these sly digs at a variety of ex-players and -managers who noone really cares about – not to mention the perpetual Bet Victor-inspired pieces about what entirely predictable predictions various has-beens have made about our next match. I like the Mag but it`s inexorably filling up with cr*p.
