Rafa Benitez has gone another step further as he continues to spell out in public, what Mike Ashley needs to do to avoid disaster.

Previously, he has said this month that promises must be belatedly kept from what was said in the summer, that transfer cash Ashley promised the manager in that last window and in the end wasn’t forthcoming, must be made available in January.

Ahead of Everton, Rafa Benitez has once again talked about the January transfer window.

The United boss said in his press conference on Tuesday that it wasn’t ‘rocket science’ to understand that Newcastle needed new players to come in next month.

With less than three weeks to go until the window opens, the United boss has revealed that he still doesn’t know what, if any money, will be made available.

The newspapers are reporting that Mike Ashley has now returned from a trip to America and that things are now expected to move/be decided.

Rafa saying he needs to know as soon as possible what his transfer funds will be, whilst The Mail claim he has given Mike Ashley and his minions until Friday to be told what is happening.

With six games to play in the 19 days until the transfer window opens, it is ridiculous, but no surprise under this Mike Ashley ownership, for no coherent plan to have been agreed by now. Especially with Newcastle’s dismal run being compounded by all of the teams at the bottom now picking up points.

Ahead of the summer transfer window Rafa Benitez had his transfer targets lined up to be targeted immediately, as well as transfer budgets said to have been agreed, only for Mike Ashley to refuse to allow those early signings and the manager eventually left desperately shopping for bargain priced players in a very competitive market.

Rafa Benitez:

“What I would say is that if you know where you are (what transfer budget you have, if any…) and what you have, it is easier for me and it is easier for our people.

“We can talk with agents, players and clubs and say, ‘We are here’ and ‘We can’, or ‘We cannot’.

“It is easier.

“You know where you are and you can go in one direction or another one. You need to know as soon as possible.

“Now we need to concentrate on this game. Hopefully, we can finish this (Everton) game and talk. We have Arsenal in a few days, but still, we need to know because our people are travelling round the world watching games.

“We have our targets.

“I would say (we need to know our transfer budget) as soon as possible. That’s normal.

“You have to go to the market in January and have your targets. You need to know the budget. That is it.”

  • Paul Patterson

I bet he doesn’t find out until mid-January at the earliest and I doubt it’ll be a big budget. £15m is what I’m guessing . .

    • Jezza

That’s £15 million more than I believe Rafa will get.

      • mentalman

it all depends on how the takeover is going and what agreements can be reached.

Any incoming signings will most likely be low cost loans

        • Jezza

Blame it on the takeover eh? You Ashpologists have always got some excuse for the club’s lack of spending in the transfer market. The truth is that it’s all down to Fatso’s greed. Always has been always will be.

          • mentalman

its not an excuse, its a simple fact that you seem to either not understand or don’t want to because you can’t use it to have a pop at MA.

If the takeover is at an advanced stage Ashley won’t spend any money, the new owner may finance new signings by reaching an agreement with MA therefore the takeover has an impact on what the club spends in january

          • Jezza

Come on then, let’s have your excuses for the lack of spending in each of the previous 21 transfer windows since Fatso took over.

          • mentalman

no excuses and i don’t believe i have ever excused how much the club has spent, i simply commented that of any transfer window this is the one that with everything that is going on with a potential sale you can see why its very unlikely that he’ll spend any money. just like it would be very unlikely for any owner to spend money when they are about to sell up

          • Jezza

Its very unlikely that he’ll spend any money in any given transfer window. That’s thye way it has always been and always will be with Fatso at this club and for the record I truly believe there is not going to be any takeover.

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

            spot on

  • Leicester Mag

Rafa will surely realise by now as Shearer said this fat carcus of an excuse of a human being listens to and respects no-one. Cocooned by a shell of minions simply gratified they have a position way beyond their ability, he’s never challenged, happy to ignore MPs, public condemnation a pure product of amoral capitalism he’ll never change. While he remains there is no future.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

The Man doesn`t care & some fans still think he will change
      He won`t !

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

The Fat Lad`s more likely to sack him than give him a pot of gold,
he continues with his idiotic team selections & we keep losing
don`t be surprised if Tony Spewlis is in place in the New Year

    • Jezza

Pulis would be a far too “ambitious” appointment for Fatso. Expect Joe Kinnear and you won’t be disappointed.

  • Hughie

Ashley has already said there is no more money. So unless TV money as anticipated is used or he sells now, to philanthropic owners there will be no-one brought in apart from a couple of loanees, particularly given the sale situation. The point once again is that the penny pinching transfer policy which has resulted in 10 years of failure is likely to mean a third relegation. 8 of the 22 fixtures after Everton are against top six expected clubs, so if we lose tonight where are the likely to be necessary 23 points going to come from ? The SD retail model simply does not work in terms of HR policy at a PL football club, but the man cannot see that and nor it seems can his ultra cautious MD..Astonishing. Speculate to accumulate and sign two or three proven PL players not high risk continentals.– but they won’t!!.

    • Kneebotherm8

We should have had two loanees in the summer…….Left back Matt Targett and striker Tammy Abraham………..we ended up with Mannequin and Hose a loo.
If those deals had went through mebbees we’d have a few more points on the board, surely they’d have been a massive improvement on the two we’ve been saddled with, thanks to Ashley and his minions.

  • wheyayeman

Poor Rafa!… he’s doing what many fans did for the first couple of years of Ashley being at the club – trying to make some sense of things, giving him the benefit of the doubt expecting him to actfor the benefit of the club. He sadly still thinks Ashley is a chairman with some degree of humanity who will make reasonable decisions and allow his manager to buy the players he needs to allow it to survive. Ashley is a total disgrace to football. Our club is a corpse because of him. Enough is enough – where are the flags to protest ? There’s nothing to celebrate!

    • TheFatController

Lest we forget, the blame lies elsewhere:-

‘I regret sacking Allardyce’ – ‘…but the fans wanted Keegan not him’

‘It’s not safe for me to go to games’ ‘…I’m the victim. Rather than selling, I’ll hang around and label anyone against me a thug’

“It’s rumoured Ashely is unhappy with performance given the funds he’s provided ….” ‘…don’t look at me’

‘They would have done a Leeds without him’ ‘…I’m the saviour, ungrateful idiots. Although I ignore that Bournemouth Watford Burnley Southampton Huddersfield Brighton Leicester haven’t done a Leeds, quite the reverse. And as for Man City…’

‘You can have every penny’ ‘they’ll think that means now, whereas I’ll hide the reality that it means next summer at the earliest, raising hopes then dashing them and humiliating the manager to boot’

‘We reject £250m bid as a joke’ ‘Staveley’s the one being unrealistic, £400m for a seriously underfunded relegation squad requiring £250m investment over 4 windows is more than fair…’

  • Peaky Magpie

We are the only club in the PL where the transfer window closes five minutes after it’s opened.

    • Kneebotherm8

      😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

    • Unless Ashley decides to cash in on a sale or two

      • Peaky Magpie

🤞🤞🤞That should be fingers crossed but they look like chickens ???

      • Jezza

Fatso has stripped our squad so bare in his relentless pursuit of profit that we now haven’t got a single player left who another club would want to buy.

        • Martin

You’re saying Lascelles wouldn’t be wanted by another club?

          • Jezza

Nobody came in for him in the summer did they.

          • Martin

After proving himself in PL so far, I have no doubts a team would buy him in the summer in an heart beat.

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

            West Brom

          • mentalman

            they came in for Gayle

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

just as well we didn`t flog him, isn`t it & it wasn`t a premiership club

          • Jezza

No, Fatso desperately tried to sell Gayle before the deadline but there were no takers.

          • mentalman

I assume the fatso you are referring to is rafa because he was happy for him to leave and gayle himself has said that he could have left as there was more than one club after him.

As for the other fat one if he had wanted gayle sold he would be sold, just like Andy Carroll was forced out of the club

          • Jezza

You know exactly who I mean by Fatso: Your mate Ashley. Ashley desperately tried to flog Dwight Gayle before the transfer deadline but there were no takers.

          • mentalman

Im starting to think your either Mr Ashley or Mr charnley you seem to know a lot about things that aren’t public knowledge either that or your simply inventing stories

          • Jezza

I’m not to privy inside knowledge nor am I inventing anything. I just hear what I hear, read what I read and form the most logical conclusion. In this instance the club’s “preferred media partner” reported that Fulham had made a £16 million bid for Dwight Gayle but Fulham later denied having made any such bid. I believe Fatso was using his friends in the press to make it known that the player was up for sale and stir up interest but there were no takers. If there had been a bid for Dwight Gayle he would not be a Newcastle player now.

        • Lord

I reckon Colback will be off (remember him?).

Probably won’t get any money for him, mind.

          • Jezza

Free transfer back to Sunderland most likely.

    • Jezza

It’s permanently closed and locked and Fatso has thrown awy the key.

      • Peaky Magpie

Or hidden it up Penfold’s jacksie ! Speaking of Penfold where the hell is he ??

        • Rich Lawson

Rehersals for the Danger Mouse Xmas special,it’s more important than anything he might be remotely involved in at St James !

          • Peaky Magpie

😂😂 I wonder if he comes as part of sale of the club ? Your very own court jester when you’re bored ! Dance yer little f***a,dance. !!!!

    • Coble’s Return

You have said it before – we must be the only club in history that is set up to fail so completely, when there is so much potential for success.

      • Peaky Magpie

        Yep,it’s a bad sad situation.

    • Lord

Maybe, but history has shown twice that MA opens the January cheque book when it looks like we’re going to be relegated and keeps it closed when we’re ‘safe’ in mid table (who cares about breaking into the top 8, eh).

      • Peaky Magpie

You’re right, what’s that phrase “reactive instead of proactive” ? Something like that anyway.

  • Monkseaton Magpies

We spent £47min the Summer transfer window not great but not insignificant either If we spend another forty seven million the fans will still moan even though we spent more than Brighton and Huddersfield gross after the Merino signing.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

      Was it that much,
Manure`s getting more expensive by the week

    • Coble’s Return

Is there some kind experiment going on in Monkseaton? – a mind altering drug in the water supply perhaps. I would like to think that I am as optimistic as the next man, but your views on Ashley are well beyond my powers of positivity. Maybe they should extend this across Tyneside and we could all turn up tonight and sing ” Walking in an Ashley Wonderland” and chip in to get Wor Hyem to create a banner of the man(admittedly, it would have to cover the whole of the Milburn Stand). Or perhaps you should take another look at the past ten years and try hard to understand what this leach has done to the club.

    • HTL

But rafa was not allowed to spend the £47m how he wanted (without interference from above), the Tammy Abraham and Matt Targett loans for example, and thats just the ones we know about.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

The fatal mistake was not buying a striker on day 1 of the window,
but then again we haven`t bought a decent one since Demba Ba.
