At the Rafa Benitez Everton press conference the messages were simple.

The Newcastle boss says that ‘You cannot lose your principles’ and that you have to ‘keep the same message’.

Rafa saying that nobody should think about a run of games, either winning or losing, it is simply about concentrating on he next game regardless of circumstances.

Quizzed about  Sam Allardyce, Rafa Benitez says it is about beating other teams, not their managers.

Asked about Jamaal Lascelles, Rafa claims he hasn’t picked his team yet for Wednesday but that the captain was close to playing on Saturday, surely he will be playing against Everton if at all possible.

Inevitably asked about the transfer window, Rafa Benitez said he is monitoring players but does not know what budget, if any…, he will have to spend in January, the United boss though summing up the current position saying ‘It’s not rocket science – we need players in some positions’,

Rafa Benitez Everton press conference:

“I have experience of teams at the bottom. We keep the same message but change little things. You cannot lose your principles. That was the key when we were winning.

“(The festive period) is always crucial. But it will be crucial in January, in April. Every game is important. We have to go and try to get three points in the next game.

“Hopefully we will win and things will be easier. We don’t need to think about a run of games, losing or winning. We concentrate on the next one and see after that.

“Some games we are the youngest team in the Premier League. We have to learn quickly. This team is working very hard. Little things we have to improve and we will be stronger.

“We know our job. Everyone has an opinion. It’s not rocket science – we need players in some positions. If we can, fine, if not, we will have to work harder.

“We’re monitoring players and talking to people. We still don’t know how much money is available. We know what we need, can we get that, I don’t know.”

“A lot of teams around of us have spent a lot of money and are still around us. We need to stay calm, work harder and we will start winning games.

“Everton are a good team with good players. They know they need to win more games away. Maybe they will be more open, but you never know. We have to control things that are in our hands.

“I don’t play against other managers. It’s about the team you have. Sam Allardyce is a good manager with experience but hopefully we can beat Everton.

“Jamaal Lascelles was nearly there (on Saturday). Having players with character and personality when things aren’t going wrong is good. I haven’t picked the team yet.

“Paul Dummett is getting better but still we have to wait. If everybody is available, hopefully we can be as solid as we were earlier in the season.”

“We know our job. Everyone has an opinion. It’s not rocket science – we need players in some positions. If we can, fine, if not, we will have to work harder”

Said it already but Rafa would be best advised to stop this doom and gloom narrative and start acting like the manager he’s supposed to be. Yes the Fatman has let us all down but guess what ? there’s Eff all we can do about that right now.

So Rafa use all your management skills and experience and get the players you’ve got playing for you, the club and the fans. January is another story.

  • 5floorshigh

like we need a genius of rocket science IQ to realise Joselu is bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep……..like we need a genius of rocket science braniac to realise Diame is bleep bleep bleep bleep……..like we a need a genius of rocket science cleverism to realise that Manquillo is bleep bleeeeeeep bleeeeeeeep………GO RAFA GO build us a moon ship !

    • hetonmag

      According to you.🚀🚀🚀

  • grantham mag

Yep the budget will be a big FAT ZERO,

  • KRS1

Can all you armchair managers criticising Rafa tell me who you would rather have managing the team. Most of you would struggle to manage a good sh*t.

    • Andy Mac

Erm not sure I’ve criticised Rafa but certainly his attitude. He has this air of “Everything’s is against me” without appreciating his players look to him for direction, encouragement and advice. He has to be the one who avoids political issues but gets the players into the correct mindset to win matches

      • Damon Horner

Most players encourage new signings because they as a unit have more chance of success, any player sensitive to the manager saying the team needs players to strengthen them really shouldn’t be there.

    • GToon

The bloke in charge at Watford.

    • Mike Adam

Nobody is above criticism !!! Also, just because someone criticizes Rafa or any manager does not mean that they want them sacked.

  • HarryHype59

I cannot see Phatz spending big money in the Jan window! The best we can hope for is a few loan deals coming in with the likes of Mitro going out!

As for the so called take over, forget it!

    • Andy Mac

Some TV funds are available in January and Fatman will be stupid if he refuses to inject that cash into the player squad.

      • HarryHype59

True, the club gets a lumper from the TV cash, however, unless Phatz agrees to buy 80m worth of players on staggered payments, it won’t be enough!

    • Kneebotherm8

We had a couple of potential loan deals in the summer with Abraham and Targett, but the hierarchy couldn’t get them over the line for some reason and we ended up with Hose a loo and Mannequin.

  • Martin

“We will follow you everywhere. We will always have your back.” Those words look a bit cheap now given some of the comments on this site. Pathetic.

    • Damon Horner

Then a former pro will come out and arguments of fickleness will be vehemently opposed.

    • Andy Mac

Let’s understand that no one is bigger than the club. However Rafa is the one we all want to run this club but he isnt without criticism. He’s dumbfounded us all at various stages along this journey but even without huge amounts of new money he has players who can compete at the lower end of the PL.. He just needs to stop this “everyone is against me” routine and get his players working to a plan that suits their abilities.

Fatman will go and Rafa will win the battle but he needs to show his quality now as a seasoned manager.

      • Martin

I trust his judgement. He sees the players every day in training. I have no doubt he knows a lot more about football than anyone on this site. He will make mistakes but if he were to go we will not replace him with someone of the same calibre. He is not beyond criticism but one of the only reasons he is staying is the support of the fans. If that goes, he will go. If you support him, now is the time to show it.

      • Damon Horner

At the end of the day Andy you seem to want Rafa to keep counsel, smile, tell us all it will be ok and work behind the scenes to fix the problems. You want Steve McClaren.

    • Natturner26

What’s pathetic is 1/21. Palace big three points today. You will be following Rafa right back down.

  • nufcslf

Well that’s Slow Mo and Joselu in from the start. Playing with 9 off the bat. Fills you with confidence, doesn’t it. Thanks for the sale by Christmas Mike , you c**t. Enjoy your third spell in the Championship that will never go away any time soon.

  • Mitro no Shearer

Reading a lot of same auld comments here from the supporter too… Rafa not the only one regurgitating rubbish… Calling for the great Mitro who correct me if im wrong has had more suspension time than starts for Newcastle… On about Shelvey makes 3 passes that stick and the rest stick to the crowd.. Hes not in cause he cant run or tackle… mbemba i am a fan of but in two matches now he has been given a light push and went over easy which cost us goals.. Ritchie i am a fan of but headed to Moses instead of back to the keeper… Merino lost ball in midfield through a loose pass only for Perez to score an og.. however if perez followed the player straight away there would be no goal… these are the mistakes and these are so called players your calling for to be in the team.. Rafa is bleating to get more money course he is for fs… When Pardew was purring up against Asleighs belly everyone complained he was a yes man… Take a breath and realize the situation we are in is because we have average to poor player across the board.. And i guess after this i will see comments for Dummet and Laselles to be back when some on her wanted them donkeys put out to pasture last year…

    • Damon Horner

Correct, the punished individual errors could be listed even further if you wanted to. I wonder what would be said if the manager come out with “I believe in this group 100%, we will turn this around”. People will think he’s crazier.
