The Premier League form table ahead of Newcastle v Leicester

The Premier League form table tells its own story for both Newcastle United and Leicester City.

Leicester are seventh in the form table and ninth in the Premier League now.

The Premier League form table covers the last six matches and this coincides with Claude Puel’s opening half dozen matches, the Frenchman taking over at the end of October.

It is impressive stuff as well, the only defeat for Puel’s Foxes being against all conquering Manchester City.

Three wins and two draws seen only six clubs above them based on recent form, all six of those currently in the top seven of the Premier League as well.

In contrast, Newcastle have gone the other way ever since that 85th minute winner by Mikel Merino against Crystal Palace.

Talking ahead of the January transfer window Rafa Benitez yesterday put it on the line for Mike Ashley, saying new signings were essential as only one or two key injuries made it very difficult for Newcastle to win games.

The likes of Atsu and Lascelles are available today whilst Merino should be now at full fitness, their injuries having contributed towards a dismal one point from the last eighteen.

Only that draw at West Brom and five defeats, puts Newcastle at the very bottom of the form table, only Swansea keeping them company.

Worrying signs as well to see that Palace, who looked in a hopeless position, have now picked up six points in this half dozen game spell.

With returning players Rafa Benitez will hopefully see a very different Newcastle United play today, both in terms of personnel and effectiveness.

The next seven Newcastle games are separated by only 22 days, a vital period where NUFC have to pick up points, starting today.

Here is the Premier League form table which covers the past six matches for all teams:
