This is the predicted Newcastle team v Everton and formation.

Whilst Newcastle ended up losing against Leicester, I think Rafa Benitez will be fairly pleased with how his formation worked against a very dangerous attacking side.

He will be less pleased with the way individual mistakes undermined the performance, helping to gift the three points to the visitors.

I think it is how many changes Rafa makes, rather than a case of whether or not he will swap his team around.

Both Christian Atsu and Jamaal Lascelles must be certainties to start.

Atsu did well when coming on as a sub on Saturday and I fancy he will replace Jacob Murphy. The former Norwich player was better than Matt Ritchie against Leicester but it would be a massive shout to drop the Scottish international at this point, on a night when the United boss will want as much  experience on the pitch as possible.

So for me it will be Atsu and Ritchie on the wings, whilst I also expect Lascelles to come in at the back as well against Everton.

Rafa has once again said that his captain was close to starting on Saturday and with Florian Lejeune struggling, it looks obvious to pair Clark and Lascelles again.

Darlow should have done better with the first Leicester goal and Manquillo and Yedlin weren’t great either. However, I think Benitez will stick with them and hope that Lascelles can restore some order and confidence to the defence, against an attacking force which will be nowhere near as good as Leicester’s.

Up front I think Rafa will be fairly happy with how Joselu and Gayle worked together. A goal for each of them and whilst the Spaniard isn’t the greatest, the manager doesn’t really have any positive alternatives. Although the Mitro fan club would disagree on that one.

The centre of midfield is a tricky one.

Merino was below par on Saturday whilst Isaac Hayden lost possession far too many times.

Left out of the last three games, Jonjo Shelvey is clearly not flavour of the month for his manager, but for a must win game can Rafa Benitez really afford to leave a player out who can keep possession and will take the ball in any circumstances.

A game where Newcastle must go for the win, let’s hope Rafa’s team can get their first win in over seven weeks.

If he goes 4-4-2 again & i suspect he will, then Hoss will start,
not to worry though if we`re getting beat he`ll hoy Mitro on in the 88th minute to try and save the game

  • Peaky Magpie

Mitro for Hoss & either Gamez or Mbemba for Mannequin. However Rafa being Rafa the team will probably look nowt like what’s printed above.

  • Andy Mac

4-4-2 leaves us hopelessly exposed in defensive midfield. What is wrong with Mbemba and Lascelles in central defence with Clark at LB ? Or those three CB’s with two flexible WB’s ? Or anyone but Manquillo who is a liability at LB.

    • Alreet

Who would have thought we would be waiting for dummy to come back. Clark. Lascelles and mbemba then yedlin and dummy either side would work for me. Shelvey. Merino. Ritchie and atsu then gayle.

Balance with pace for the counter.

      • Andy Mac

Dummy or Manny ? Not much of a choice but maybe in another universe we get to see Luke Shaw on loan ? Whatever happened to serious competition for places ?

        • Alreet

Ash…..thats what happened. Tight fisted nugget. Rue the day i saw his face on the TV shaking hands with freddy.

  • Alreet

I want mbemba at LB. The rest are fine. Bored of the jose debate. Its not if he will play now its “is he fit then yes”. If you must start him fine but just bring alex on a bit earlier. Defences done know what to do with him and he doesnt take any s**t.

As long as gayle is there he will score. Just need lascelles to get the defence singing again.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

I`d play Mbemba every time at left back

      • Alreet

Me too. Hes ok at CB but hes better tracking the lines. Mannequin was a bad purchase.

        • Mitros gotta start

          What…another bad rafa signing?
Surely not…..he is a tactical genius you know…..all his signings are top class….i mean look at sels….lazaar…diame…gamez….joselu…
          lejeune…all top class!

          • Alreet

I sense sarcasm…….then i look at atsu. Ritchie. Merino. Hayden. Gayle. Yedlin.

            Your turn!

          • Mitros gotta start

Ok so he has a record of 1 ok signing for every terrible one?
Handy, when the owner wont give you any money to spend.

          • Alreet

Hmmm handy. Cant believe thats serious. We had a lower net spend than huddersfield and brighton. Who by the way are doing a bit better than us.

You have 5 mill to spend on a striker you get jose. 3 mill for a defender you get manquillo.

Then again you cpuld spend 12 mill on a midfielder and get ritchie and another 12 and get gayle and they get you out of the championship.

            Read between the lines man.

          • Mitros gotta start

Or you could waste what little money you have on signings then not pick them or who are useless…gamez…lazaar…diame…sels…depends on how you want to look at it…or you can leave your best players on the bench when you deperately need goals in the side….like bringing yedlin on ahead of shelvey when we are behind….tactical genius!

  • Wor Lass

Dummy at LB for me, if he`s fit. It seems unlikely, though, if he wasn`t fit enough on saturday – maybe on as sub? I`d play Mbemba ahead of Manquillo any day but Rafa doesn`t seem to agree.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

He`s been ruled out or i would have gone with Dummy

  • HarryHype59

If that formation and team are selected, Everton will win 1-3! This team gets over run in midfield playing 4-4-2! I would like to see 4-5-1 with Mbemba screening the back four like he does for his country!

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

    Palace are 1 down

    • Peaky Magpie

Could do with Stoke getting beat.

      • glassjawsh-got-banned

        speak of the devil

  • glassjawsh-got-banned

I wonder if Mbemba and Mitro even make the bench?

  • Monkseaton Magpies

Not sure if Elliott will be recalled and he might spring a surprise and put Ritchie on the bench as he looked a bit jaded on Saturday and play Arrons.

    • mentalman

Ritchie and rafa are reported to have had words during and after the game so he may find himself on the naughty step with colback

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

    Palace & Stoke lost

    • glassjawsh-got-banned

Palace game isn’t over. don’t jinx it. Burnley into the top 4. What a world.

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

the jinx is in the States

        • glassjawsh-got-banned

          and orange?

    • Peaky Magpie

What a situation when we are looking at other results already !

    • glassjawsh-got-banned

late equalizer. I blame you. and Tom Cleverley.

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

see the Spanish guy leading Nufc

    • Mitros gotta start

      Oops

  • Peaky Magpie

Swansea,WBA,Bournemouth,Brighton & West Ham all got hellish hard games tomorrow night.3 points against Everton would be massive.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

West ham won`t go down but 3 out of the rest will

      • glassjawsh-got-banned

West Ham still can’t defend. And have a fraud for a manager. I think there is a very decent chance they could go down.

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

they`ll spend what it takes next month

          • glassjawsh-got-banned

If I had to guess I’d say WBA (haven’t won since August) and Swansea (9 goals in 16 games) look most likely to go down. Then it’s just a matter of who else from us, Crystal Palace, Stoke, Brighton, West Ham or Huddersfield joins them.

          • Peaky Magpie

            Hard to disagree there.

      • Peaky Magpie

Stoke & Huddersfield will also be in the mix i reckon.

  • Peaky Magpie

    FFS 2-1 Palace

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

      such is life,

      • Peaky Magpie

If only they still had Pardew

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

          well he`ll take WBA down

  • Peaky Magpie

7 points between the bottom 11 teams show what a tough slog the second half of the season is going to be.We will need to scrap for every single point and for goodness sake keep the goal difference down as it could be absolutely crucial this season.

  • GToon

Predicted team? 11 very average players (and not even the best ones from the squad).
Predicted formation? 11 behind the ball.
Predicted result? 2 or 3 nil to them.

  • Mike Adam

I guess Aarons won’t even make the bench again either.

  • Down Under Mag

After the Palace result this is a must win game, that pack in the relegation zone is far too close for comfort now and alarm bells should be ringing for Mike Ashley to sell or invest, if he does neither then he has no-one else to blame but himself when we go down for a third time and the clubs value plummets.

As long as he is 100%, Lascelles needs to start. I’d also be keen to see Ritchie dropped and Aarons given a run out and Would be good to see Mmbemba in instead of Manquillo. However what we want and what will happen are two different things. What price Diame to start in midfield?

    • mentalman

Mbemba in for either manquillo, yedlin or hayden.

Agree about Aarons he would inject pace and crossing which has sorely been missed recently

      • Peaky Magpie

What’s up with Haidara ? Is he on Rafa’s schitt list ? Also agree with Aarons and the Mannequin has to be dropped.

        • mentalman

          is he fit

          • Peaky Magpie

Not sure tbh, just went off the radar.Must be on Rafa’s green mile.
