Samuel Grandsir has become a talked about player in France.

Then only 20, the young right winger helped Troyes to promotion last season, the French club ending the season as runners-up to Ligue 2 champions Strasbourg.

Expected to struggle this season, instead Troyes are currently safely in mid-table and much of that has been put down to the influence of the young winger.

Now 21, Samuel Grandsir has scored two goals and got four assists in only 15 Ligue 1 starts, involved in six of the 19 league goals they have scored.

Even though they lost 2-0, a very good performance from Grandsir against PSG at the end of November brought him a lot of attention.

Now Le10Sport in France have published an exclusive, claiming that the winger’s impressive form has caught the attention of clubs in England.

Amongst those interested clubs, Le10Sport report that both Newcastle United and Bournemouth have made an approach to Troyes ahead of the January window to register their interest.

The French media organisation say that significant transfer offers are set to follow from the two Premier League clubs, plus very likely bids from elsewhere as well.

They understand that Troyes are adamant they won’t sell, unless they get an offer that they can’t refuse…

Rafa Benitez of course has repeatedly said that he has all kinds of transfer targets in mind but with now less than two weeks to go until the window opens, he still has no idea what his budget will be. With also of course no idea whether Mike Ashley will still be in charge.

Great. Another one I’ve never heard of :(

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

If Clarko`s around you`ll soon find out

    • Mark Potter

Which is what most football fans around the country, including many Newcastle fans, said when Rafa splashed £12m on Murphy. When you know your budget is tight, why spend so much of it on an unknown quantity, with no experience of playing top level football? Murphy has shown little so far to demonstrate why he was our top signing of the summer.

      • glassjawsh-got-banned

because otherwise he’d have gotten nothing

      • Jezza

Rafa had nothing to do with the Murphy transfer. Murphy was signed purely because Ashley hoped he might be able to sell him on at a nice profit 18 months to two years later.

      • HarryHype59

He was at Coventry two years ago with Armstrong and is basically a rookie! Why someone at this club decided to pay a reputed £12m for him, defies logic!

        • Vladimir Biggski

          Armstrong is a better player

  • Paul Patterson

Haven’t we been down this French route before? Plus, we need a striker, no 10 and a left back before we go for a right winger.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

that`s what Rafa needs, those players are to expensive, he`ll get what he`s given, more cheap tat

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

and some people think Rafa`s in charge of transfers

  • Leazes Ender

    Fake news

  • Peaky Magpie

    Below average French,below average Spanish.Where next ? Germany,Italy……

    • Mark Potter

Below average English possibly? Like Colback, Hanley, Darlow, Saylor, Chopra, Williamson and Mr. Red Card himself, Shelvey. Rafa paid £12m for Murphy. Bang average.

      • Peaky Magpie

You are probably spot on,it’s a sad reality that’s exactly where we are now.

      • Jezza

There is no way Murphy’s fee was anything like £12 million.

        • HarryHype59

How much was it then? Anything north of £3m was too much!

          • Jezza

I think it was £8 million with additional instalments based on appearances and such like taking it to a possible eventual figure of £10.5 million.

  • Dillon Tovak

    But is he grand, Sir?

  • ghostrider

    We need Luiz and Torres.
Then Rafa can look for a few more of his old players and put together the biggest wage bill ever and the oldest average squad in the entire football leagues of the entire world.
You can’t beat a bit of experience to destroy your club.
I wouldn’t put it past Rafa to try it but I’d guarantee you he’d be stopped dead in his tracks and sent packing, no matter who owns the club.

    • 1957

From the little I’ve seen of Torres on tv this season he makes the Hoss look good, but with Benitez you never know…

    • Jezza

Yes let’s have Joe Kinnear, no signings in January and another nice profit for Fatso.

      • Vladimir Biggski

That has been his plan all along

  • 1957

Let’s hope its fake news the last thing we need is a young French winger

  • James Palmer

Why don’t you all wise up and stop having a pop we have a paper thin squad that without significant investment in January will see 2 local derbies next season. Even Rafa can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Any amount or speculation won’t help and every publication has an angle only players with premier league experience will make a difference but we need at least 100 million and that ain’t gonna happen.Just get behind the team and keep the faith we are NEWCASTLE UNITED

    • Kneebotherm8

Is that boro home and away????
