The FA Cup Third Round has taken place on Monday night.

Newcastle were ball number 28 and have got Luton at home.

If only Gateshead had had better luck on Sunday, instead of losing 5-0 at home to Luton.

Fingers cross we make it into the fourth round draw…

An interesting one as the League Two side have Robert Lee’s two sons playing for them, both scoring against Gateshead yesterday.

Interesting elsewhere, with Middlesbrough v Sunderland and Liverpool v Everton.

It was very generous of Mike Ashley earlier this year to say he was going to instruct Newcastle United to go all out for the FA Cup after ensuring Premier League safety (see below), if only he had allowed Rafa Benitez to go beyond that £11.5m net spend in the summer – you don’t get many trophies for that amount these days.

Mike Ashley talking to Sky Sports – 13 August 2017:

“I actually now believe that Newcastle will look to make mid-table this season and maybe we can make the cup a priority this season.

“We can get ourselves safe and then go for a cup.

“It means that in my few years at Newcastle United I might be able to win something other than a Championship trophy.”

Sky Sports – 10 September 2017:

“Mike Ashley says he will donate £20m to the players if they win the FA Cup this season.”

Fatso`s £20m promise must be from the funds he`s pocketed out of the till.
as for the draw we`ll lose & Rafa will say we have to concentrate on the league as we`re 3rd bottom

    • Peaky Magpie

That’s if Rafa is still here ????????

        • Peaky Magpie

Chuck in the Mannequin & SloMo and we might sneak a cheeky 1-0 win.

    • gallowgate26

I’d rather he just spent £20m on a CF who can score goals and keep us in the PL. Rather than a promise of £20m player bonus for a cup that we’re never going to win. Not daft is he?!!

        ashley talks sxxte

  • Monkseaton Magpies

Rafa not been playing his best team for weeks for Premier League games leaving the best players on the bench so expect the Youth team for this one as Rafa continues to make political statements against Ashley. Shelvey, Haydyn and Mitro should book a winter break until we are out the cup.

    • Mark Potter

He’ll play Saivet, Colback, Aarons, Mitro and Diame, and, if fit (very doubtful, it will be cold) Haidara. To put them in the shop window. Probably with Woodford in goal.

As an exiled Mag, I’ve got a season ticket in league 2 this year at my local side, Luton are more than capable of taking advantage if we aren’t at our very best, they’ve scored 7+ on 3 occasions already this season.

    • gallowgate26

Gateshead are no mugs, despite what some people might like to believe on here about non-league. I went to the game where they were beaten, in the end 7-0 at PL West Brom, it was Tony Pulis’ first game in charge, after 25 mins he was down out of his seat in the stands and pacing about on the touch line! Class & fitness told in the end, but if Luton beat the ‘heed 0-5 away from home then they must be decent and I can well believe they have the tools to do a number on a disrespectful toon line-up.

      • Kev-82

I was at Turf Moor last season when a full strength well organised Burnley side were knocked out in the 5th round by non league Lincoln. That game should be a wake up for any premier league team that they can’t underestimate lower league teams.

  • grantham mag

This has HEREFORD written all over it.

    • Whitehurst

Apart from the fact we’re at home!!

      • 1957

Who is to say Luton won’t get a draw at SJP and beat us in a replay like Hereford did in 1972

      • grantham mag

We played Hereford at home and they got a draw, I was there home and away, it was not a happy time.

  • Rich Lawson

Best chance of beating a very good Luton team is to actually play the 1st team in a cup game for a change ?

  • Whitehurst

Great draw for the Lee family!! Rob Lee….if only we had that sort of player in our ranks today?! Cracking player….one of which that dispels our loathing for anyone south of the Watford gap. Proper Toon legend!!

  • Rab

Pitty I was hopeing to get Sunderland home are away

  • Kev Newcastle England

Ive been wanting that since the late 1970s

  • nufcslf

Well there’s a third round exit if I’ve ever seen one. Cashley still in charge…likely…and a manager on his way out. What a joke of a club. Well done Mike……[email protected]
