Darlow 7 – Didn’t have much to do at all but made a few good saves and was there when called upon. I suspect he will have a lot more to do against Stoke on New Year’s day.

Yedlin 5 – I think he has been our best player as of late but he didn’t do enough today going forward. Can definitely be forgiven considering how much he has contributed recently. Evident today that when this guy doesn’t contribute, Newcastle don’t have a lot going forward. How worrying is that? Also, not sure how a right back can be offside so many times?!

Lascelles 8 – Solid as ever and could have had a goal. We look a lot safer at the back with the skipper there. Can’t be happy with what is in front of him though. Both central defenders don’t seem to have a clue what to do when they have the ball at their feet.

Clark 7 – Hasn’t looked comfortable on the ball since he came back into the side but defensively he did ok alongside Lascelles. I think those two are our best defensive partnership.

Dummett 6 – Back in the side, and we all know what he brings defensively, but going forward it just isn’t enough for me. I was a big defender of him last season but he needs to offer more this season. Simply getting the ball on your left foot and kicking it isn’t good enough for me. Manquillo offers more.

Ritchie 5 – Huffed and puffed but failed to create enough. I don’t think he is adventurous enough. Whether he has his orders not to venture too far forward I don’t know, but when you’re at home, we need more from our wide men.

Merino 4 – Very quiet today and shied away from things at times. It is silly for us to be relying on this guy as our main man. Shelvey is a bit of a liability but if Rafa is going to come out after the game and say these young players need more experience, then it is silly not playing the most experienced PL player.

Hayden 6 – Does what is asked of him. I like Hayden but he struggles in the 4-4-2 system when more is required of him going forward. Not a box to box midfielder and looks far more comfortable as a three in the middle being able to break up play.

Atsu 6 – Nothing like the same player we saw against West Ham and City recently. One of those players who you never quite know what you are going to get. Still needs to play as you never know what he is going to come up with. Not his day today though.

Gayle 5 – Struggling a lot at the moment. Not taking his chances in front of the SJP crowd. No real chemistry between himself and Joselu either.

Joselu 4 – Rubbish today. I don’t know what else I can say about him as we all know his limitations. It is just so frustrating how poor we are.

One win in 12, no goals in 5 of last 6 home games. awful football in general this season, but hey, at least we only conceded one against City…?

I don’t think for one minute anyone is turning against Rafa, or anything of the likes, but serious questions need to be asked going into January.

      With first class players Raffa is undoubtedly a first class manager and tactician but with players with less brilliance than the top sides he is no better than Chris Houghton. So if the club is not sold and/or we fail to get a few player methinks we will be lucky to stay up.

    Think you are being harsh on Dummett as once again kept Knockaert very quiet and as a left back his main job is to defend first.Our back five did okay yet our midfield and front two offered ZERO attacking threat. Gayle’s first touch was woeful Ritchie offered nothing and Atsu never took on Bruno once and hes about 412!
    However the major worry is like you I thought Jamaal was head and shoulders our best player on the park today….pause for a second and think…a centre half the man of the match…at home to Brighton!!. FFS

    I suppose this one is Ashley’s fault aswell and not rafas? For 15 seasons combined before this current one, Brighton have spent barely anything on transfers. Nothing. Probably less than £2m in 15 years. They’ve built a squad who can play football and bought a few extras this season. That’s why they won. Because they’ve been building a squad. Not just built a good championship team who are good for 1 season only.

  • We didn’t lose and we got points. I would have like a win, but a point is a point. I would have taken that point against a lot of teams we lost by one goal this season. Sometimes luck and form are not on your side. Rafa went very aggresive with the tactics, but he was undone in every situation by a very solid and defensive Brighton side. Every game is a must win for us, battling relegation. Let’s hope we can get a reaction and result against Stoke.

      1 win in 12 we needed 3 points today. The other teams at the bottom will keep nicking wins here and there and we’ll get relegated. We pose no goal threat with Rafa’s strikers.

    Because I swore, I had my original post deleted, so I shall try to make this one a little less uncivil. If you people continue to go and support a team that gives absolutely no effort and clearly couldn’t care less, then you deserve all that you get. It’s been said before, and I’ll say it again. Stop going! Don’t give your hard earned pennies to the FCW and the mercenaries that currently wear what was once a hallowed shirt. It ain’t rocket science. Pull the plug!!!

      If everyone played the game it would definelty work, but the problem is, a lot of them, not all, only go to see their pals and spend time with their kids etc, they aren’t NUFC fans they are spectators.

      You are right, I’ve had a few posts deleted recently with using a few too many naughty words to describe my hate of Cashley and his supporters. Empty ground, especially with these marches beeing beamed around the world would speak volumes. I accept it will never happen, so can only dream of a sale one day.

    I’m half hoping we start seeing a few good signings in the next fortnight.

    It’s gone quiet on the deal because (I hope) if there’s one thing both parties would agree its that there’s now no good reason for leaks of any progress.

    Why?

    ‘Hi, Lee Charnley here. Yes, that’s right, we have a done deal with PCP now yes. How much for that player we want ? How much??’

    Or

    ‘Hi Lee Charnley here. We want pay stupid money, it’s Ashley you’re dealing with…’

    If there’s one thing PCP will want to take advantage of (if they are buying), it’s the football world’s belief Ashley won’t spend whilst in charge.

    So no, should there be any progress on the deal, we won’t be announcing it anytime soon…no news may be good news therefore.

    The quicker we get a manager that can work with the players we have the more chance we have of staying up….Rafa the liar isnt up to relegation scraps he has proved this….there is no money coming in for new players and the manager is too stubborn to admit when he is wrong or try a plan B we are gonna get relegated if we dont get someone in that can work with the dross we have on the books right now

      The best chance of having a successful nufc is with a proven top class manager. If Rafa has to ride out another relegation in order to build the team he wants then so be it. Replacing him with another job for the boys merry go round manager is lunacy. I’d sooner go down than sack this man and replace with what? Hughes, McLaren, Monk? Geesus. We have a championship team battling for survival in the PL. What are you expecting?

        Top class manager? Does amyone seriously think we are going to get a fairy godmother to stump up unlimited funds to turn us into Real Madrid? Dream on … How many games under Rafa has anyone come away saying top game that, murdered them. Its negative, boring and his grudges are making us dis-united again. Oh and theresults are not top class manager stuff. Stick with him if we go down and repeat last year? Cant see any owner promising unlimited funds for that. If we do go down, then maybe the manager needsto be accountable too?
