New fitness updates makes this Newcastle team v Leicester possible
This is the Newcastle team v Leicester which now looks a possibility after NUFC fitness updates.
Rafa Benitez having suffered through injuries, looks to be once again getting close to having a full squad of players to choose from.
As well as a squad short on numbers and overall quality, the last thing the United boss needed was injuries to first team regulars such as Lascelles, Merino, Dummett and Atsu.
However, all four of them could now be in line to start on Saturday.
Mikel Merino came back and played two games within four days of each other against West Brom and Chelsea, so he should be now 100% after another week of training on top of that.
Meanwhile, Rafa Benitez has announced that he expects to have both Christian Atsu and Paul Dummett back, he said the pair were close to being available for Chelsea but are now set to be up for selection against Leicester.
On top of that, an interview with Jamaal Lascelles released on Wednesday afternoon has confirmed that he returned to training on Tuesday and is hoping to make the team that starts at St James Park on Saturday at 5.30pm.
“I am going to do everything to try and get back playing as soon as possible, fingers crossed it can be Saturday.
“You just want to come back and try and fix things.
“As I say, hopefully a good week’s worth of training and hopefully I can be in the team on Saturday.
DeAndre Yedlin and Jonjo Shelvey were both left out at Stamford Bridge for a match which always looked to be a thankless task, Rafa taking the opportunity to try out different tactics and personnel in some cases.
I have a feeling though that the manager will be looking to get as many of his first choice players on the pitch against Leicester, so this is my predicted potential Newcastle team v Leicester:
