Michael Owen predicts West Ham v Newcastle
Michael Owen played away at West Ham three times for Newcastle United.
The striker scoring a hat-trick in a 4-2 away victory in 2005, then followed that up with a 2-2 draw and finally a 3-1 defeat in the 2008/09 relegation season, though Owen did score the NUFC goal.
The last two trips to London to face the Hammers have seen 1-0 and 2-0 scorelines for the home side but the previous three trips did bring two away wins and a draw.
It will of course be Newcastle’s first visit to the London Stadium and Michael Owen predicts ‘a miserable Christmas for the Toon Army’.
Despite Rafa Benitez not losing any of his last nine games against David Moyes, he predicts that run to end on Saturday.
Going for a West Ham win, he points to the Hammers not conceding in their last three PL games and Newcastle losing their last four.
Hopefully the NUFC players will prove Michael Owen wrong as this is not a game Newcastle can really afford to lose.
Michael Owen talking to BetVictor:
“West Ham have kept clean sheets in their last three PL games and I think they can make it a miserable Christmas for the Toon Army given the Magpies go in to the game having lost their last four.
“There wasn’t much love lost between Rafa Benitez and David Moyes when they were managing Liverpool and Everton respectively and the former Reds boss is unbeaten in his last nine PL encounters against Moyes.
“I think the Hammers will edge what promises to be a tight low-scoring affair although the hosts will miss their influential suspended midfielder Manuel Lanzini.
“The Tip: West Ham to win at 11/10.”
