Everton fan Michael Owen has been taking a look at Wednesday night’s match at St James Park.

The Toffees have had a bit of an upturn in results, with only one defeat in the past six Premier League matches.

The latest in that sequence being a fortunate draw at Anfield on Sunday, when they were totally outplayed and awarded a lucky penalty to claim the draw.

That point lifted them into the top half but if Newcastle win, it would take them to only one point behind 10th place Everton.

Whilst the scousers have won three and drawn two of their last half dozen PL games, Newcastle of course have lost six and draw one of their last seven.

However, Michael Owen forecasts a draw for this game, although he says Newcastle will have to improve their defending.

Jamaal Lascelles was on the bench on Saturday and the expectation/hope is he will now be ok to start on Wednesday and tighten things up.

Newcastle have actually found their way to goal recently and scored five in the last three matches, having scored only once in the previous four.

If the Magpies could repeat their two goals from Saturday against Leicester then you would hope they could do better at the back, against an Everton side missing a number of attacking players.

Everton are one of only three Premier League clubs not to win away this season, drawing four and losing four.

If Newcastle do lose this one then it could be a sinking feeling all round for Newcastle fans.

Rafa Benitez has never lost a home Premier League match against Everton, if that record is broken on Wednesday then upcoming games against Arsenal (A), West Ham (A) and Manchester City (H) will look very tough.

Michael Owen talking to BetVictor:

“Newcastle don’t have the best of records against Everton losing six of their last seven games and the Magpies have only picked up one point from their last seven league games.

Rafa Benitez will have been disappointed to concede three at home to a good Leicester side at the weekend and they must improve defensively if they don’t want to get embroiled in a relegation battle.

“That said Everton were poor at Anfield despite picking up a valuable point on Sunday and Benitez has never lost a home PL game against the Blues.

“I expect that run to continue midweek although both sides may have to settle for a point.

“Prediction is match to finish in a draw at 23/10.”

I have news for you here, it is not how much possession you have that wins a game but putting the ball in the oppositions net more than the other team!
In addition, how can the penalty be “lucky”?! Either it is a penalty or it is not, and it was as much a penalty as the majority given these days.
The article makes about as much sense as many of the comments made on them these days.

Allardyce wasn’t suited to Newcastle but he is still the boss at premier league survival. I wish we were facing Everto before he landed.
