What Leicester fans are saying about Newcastle supporters, the city and match ahead of Saturday
Leicester fans are now looking up, rather than down.
New manager Claude Puel arrived in late October and after beating Burnley and Tottenham in their last two matches, the Foxes are now ninth and rising, or so they hope.
Fair to say that the Leicester fans are confident of having a good time when they visit Newcastle city centre.
The vast majority also very confident that they are going to have a great time inside St James Park.
Their last visit saw them demolish Steve McClaren’s team 3-0 on the win to lifting the title with Jamie Vardy amongst the scorers.
With their upturn and having watched Newcastle as well, a fair few are fancying the visitors to score four this time…
Leicester fans commenting via their top Foxes Talk message board:
‘In theory should be the easiest of our last 3 games – not got the talent of Spurs going forward and not got the (usual) defensive doggedness of Burnley.
I think we’ll win.’
‘I never really get too excited about Newcastle, I always remember a Shearer Hat-trick for some reason that brings back bad memories.
We were winning 1-3 at the time.
It was 20 years ago………. God I feel old.’
‘I just about broke my foot kicking my parents sofa when they scored the 4th goal, stormed out and sulked for ages!’
‘I just got more drunk
1st half drunk with happiness 2nd absolutely off my face with misery.’
‘We’re a better team than them so should be going for a win.
‘We can cause them problems with our pace. They are on a horrendous run and we need to take advantage. If we are on it and up for it I’d be hopeful of another decent result.’
Surely 9 points there for the taking but he will have to start rotating players at some point during that spell due to the amount of games in and around Xmas.
The Man City cup game is arguably the biggest game of the lot so that might affect team selection for the league games around that time.
Either way looking forward to a night out in Newcastle.’
‘Newcastle is a top night out … love the Geordies to bits …. as for the game, we should be capable of grabbing three points away at last but don’t underestimate the effect of the support at Newcastle (we need to grab a lead and quiet the place down!) … why is it always so bloody cold up there though!?’
‘Yeh great night out but their stadium is like a library these days, even when they are winning its quiet.
I have sat in home and away end there and you can hardly hear the away fans due to their positioning in the stadium.’
‘They ain’t that good but Id expect a tough game for some reason.
Part of this would be that I can’t imagine them being any worse than the 2 games in 2015 when they were possibly the worst sides we have played in our premier league history.
Benitez made a better go of it against us in March 2016 so we’ll have our hands full with this.’
‘These are very poor!..
‘We haven’t lost to a team outside the top 7 since Ranieri was in charge, and I don’t expect that to change against Newcastle.
I think it will be tough though- a 1-1 draw or us to nick it 2-1.’
Excited for beers in Newcastle, A few Bochum guys over too.’
‘Will be disappointed if we don’t put at least 3 past these…’
‘This might be a good time to play them. They’re starting to lose confidence as they drop down the table and those doubts are setting in. 1-3 Leicester.’
‘Really looking forward to this.
Temp well below freezing , snow and being in a stand about a million miles above sea level.’
‘We should be trying to have this done and dusted by half time. These are absolutely woeful at the back, I’d be tempted to get Slimani in and just try and get as many crosses into the box as possible.
They generally go with a 2 in the middle so we should be able to match them.’
‘Alan Shearer said most Newcastle players are Championship standard. I wonder what NUFC players feel hearing a club legend say that about them. Rafa can organise them and he’s tactically astute but he can’t turn Joselu and Gayle into competent Premier League strikers.’
‘I’m going to this one and it sounds like it’s going to be freezing up on the banks of the Tyne!
I have no idea what to expect of this game tbh.
Newcastle are pretty rubbish tbf but no surprise if they suddenly pulled something out of the bag against us.
Draw for me, 2-2.’
‘I’m hoping Lascelles isn’t back as the organisation seems to have disappeared in his absence. I couldn’t believe some of the defending going on in recent games, must be frustrating for Newcastle fans to see it.
Merino looks a ridiculously good acquisition, I’ve found it odd that he’s not been paired up with Shelvey, I’m hoping Diame or Hayden will be in there again on Saturday haha.
One thing we could struggle with, is Shelvey’s through balls to Gayle against our central defensive pairing, (assuming they both play, though I’d love to see Joselu starting 😀 ).
I’ll be watching this with a Toon fan so it feels like high stakes. He’s not feeling very confident about it at the minute, which isn’t a surprise given recent performances.’
‘It almost seems like Mike Ashley’s decisions are to spite the club and fans these days.’
‘It must be so annoying having a manager like Rafa at the club and then having the biggest cheapskate owner going. I can imagine the day he leaves becoming a public holiday in Newcastle haha.’
‘Need to close Shelvey down (who sits deep and almost plays like a quarterback)..don’t think Ndidi plays high enough up the pitch to do so … would like Okazaki to play to do this.’
‘Could be a good time to play them.
They’ll be desperate to attack, which would leave gaps prior to their defence due to them pressing high – which would obviously benefit Vardy etc, hopefully.’
‘Hoping for another 3points for Leicester as we’re playing so well and some decent football at times, but normally when we play struggling sides they tend to be on the resurgence and we get nothing at all from the game!
Morgan and Maguire need to keep close to Gayle as he’s been excellent for them of late so keep him quiet and we could be coming back with all 3 points, hoping Newcastle are still underperforming.’
‘Have the feeling that this will be a big scoreline win.
‘Surprises me how many people predict us to score 4 away from home. When was the last time we did that in a prem game?’
