Joselu was a surprise starter against Arsenal and did ok, winning a lot of balls in the air and having a deflected shot that went just wide of the goal, narrowly missing out on helping his team get a point.
Speaking ahead of the trip to West Ham, the United striker says it is a game Newcastle ‘need to win’.
The Hammers have had a mini resurgence, their last four Premier League games seeing wins over Chelsea and Stoke, as well as a draw at home to Arsenal and narrow 2-1 defeat at Manchester City.
On Tuesday night, Arsenal changed their whole team and West Ham also had a very different line-up, as the Gunners won 1-0 in the League Cup quarter-final at The Emirates.
With a record of only one point from the last nine matches, Newcastle have dropped into the bottom three, but he says that if the team take the ‘character’ from the second half at Arsenal ‘for sure the points will come’.
A win for Newcastle would take them back above the Hammers, West Ham having profited from Lanzini’s cheating that won them a penalty and the first goal at Stoke on Saturday, running out eventual 3-0 winners. A positive for Newcastle is that the FA have taken action and Lanzini, arguably West Ham’s best player, was banned last night and will also miss Saturday’s game against the Magpies.
Joselu speaking to NUFC TV:
“We need to take the three points…we need to win.
“We know that it is difficult because the situation is not good but the team, the club staff, we are all together, and we keep fighting for the three points.
“We know these games against the big teams (such as Arsenal) will be difficult but we had our chances.
“The second half was very good. In the first half we have mistakes but this is normal playing against the big teams.
“We have to keep going, take the character from the second half and then for sure the points will come.
“We know how West Ham play and we know how we play.
“We need to play well, stay calm in the game, score more goals than West Ham, win the game.
“Every game in the Premier League game is difficult, we know that.
“We need to win and we go and we play away and we go to the West Ham stadium to take the three points and that’s it.”
