Joselu was a surprise starter against Arsenal and did ok, winning a lot of balls in the air and having a deflected shot that went just wide of the goal, narrowly missing out on helping his team get a point.

Speaking ahead of the trip to West Ham, the United striker says it is a game Newcastle ‘need to win’.

The Hammers have had a mini resurgence, their last four Premier League games seeing wins over Chelsea and Stoke, as well as a draw at home to Arsenal and narrow 2-1 defeat at Manchester City.

On Tuesday night, Arsenal changed their whole team and West Ham also had a very different line-up, as the Gunners won 1-0 in the League Cup quarter-final at The Emirates.

With a record of only one point from the last nine matches, Newcastle have dropped into the bottom three, but he says that if the team take the ‘character’ from the second half at Arsenal ‘for sure the points will come’.

A win for Newcastle would take them back above the Hammers, West Ham having profited from Lanzini’s cheating that won them a penalty and the first goal at Stoke on Saturday, running out eventual 3-0 winners. A positive for Newcastle is that the FA have taken action and Lanzini, arguably West Ham’s best player, was banned last night and will also miss Saturday’s game against the Magpies.

Joselu speaking to NUFC TV:

“We need to take the three points…we need to win.

“We know that it is difficult because the situation is not good but the team, the club staff, we are all together, and we keep fighting for the three points.

“We know these games against the big teams (such as Arsenal) will be difficult but we had our chances.

“The second half was very good. In the first half we have mistakes but this is normal playing against the big teams.

“We have to keep going, take the character from the second half and then for sure the points will come.

“We know how West Ham play and we know how we play.

“We need to play well, stay calm in the game, score more goals than West Ham, win the game.

“Every game in the Premier League game is difficult, we know that.

“We need to win and we go and we play away and we go to the West Ham stadium to take the three points and that’s it.”

He received his highest rating ever at Newcastle against the Gunners
He headed the ball 20 times !
    Oh Dear

    • Natturner26

Watched Leicester Manchester City last night and was impressed seeing players win headers that were actually directed to a teammate. At Newcastle we’re just impressed with a player actually connecting his head to a ball.

  • FatParosite

£5M does not get you an intelligent player

  • Mitros gotta start

Sadly, his best contribution to the team would be to break his foot.

    • Buck Blacket

Even if he did YOU still wouldn’t get a game Mitro! Lol

Talk is cheap. In fact, talk is dirt cheap. It means absolutely nothing.
I’ve seen write ups and players chatting on video about how committed they all are to ensuring we do this and that and all will give 100% and we’ll surely get out of this and that and blah blah blah.

Do the talking on the pitch and then come and talk about it.
You don’t win or draw games against anyone by chatting, whether you’re a player trying to pacify the fans or a manager.

It’s pointless standing on the podium and declaring to the people that we will not be defeated and we will win the war, as your soldiers are on screen behind you getting massacred.

Here’s something for Joselu and co. Don’t go out there and take the plaudits for being a good grafter and winning a few headers…go out there and take the plaudits for being an integral part of why we took all 3 points.
That goes for all players and all of it assuming Rafa sets it out in such a way as to set up the potential of it.

oh no did STaylor leave his book of quotes? Next beating his chest in front of the fans…….

  • Buck Blacket

    Can’t argue with that.

Bit rich coming from Joselu – one of our worst ever strikers.
