Jamaal Lascelles says ‘We need to change things starting on Saturday.’

The Newcastle captain adding ‘It is hard to watch, especially when the team is not doing great.’

Since forced off the pitch against Bournemouth, Jamaal Lascelles has watched from the sidelines as Newcastle have lost four matches and drawn one.

However, he says ‘fingers crossed it can be Saturday’ when he returns to the team!

The defender revealing he trained for the first time on Tuesday and was looking for a more intense training session on Wednesday (today).

A massive boost for everybody if Jamaal Lascelles can start against Leicester.

Jamaal Lascelles talking to NUFC TV:

‘What are the chances of being fit for Saturday?’

“I trained for the first time today (Tuesday) and gave myself a good indication of my fitness and how my foot is holding up.

“I will be training again tomorrow (Wednesday), probably go a bit more intense and see how I get on.

“It is hard to watch, especially when the team is not doing great. I am watching and I feel a bit responsible.

“I am going to do everything to try and get back playing as soon as possible, fingers crossed it can be Saturday.

“You just want to come back and try and fix things.

“As I say, hopefully a good week’s worth of training and hopefully I can be in the team on Saturday.

“Last season we were the Manchester City of the Championship but things are different now. Teams are able to buy players for forty and fifty million and we are a team where our main strength is our togetherness and team ethic.

“That is going to be massive for us come the end of the season because we will tip teams over the edge with this.

“Leicester is a game we must win. We are in a good position but we want to finish higher and things haven’t been going our way.

“We need to change things starting on Saturday.”

    Oh No,

The Man City of the championship was a nice touch, Wasn`t it

We weren’t scoring goals for fun like City are doing.

Who would ever have thought we are also desperate for Dummett back ?

It’s Lascelles’ leadership we’ve missed the most. Since he’s been out no-one seems to organise and take responsibility. The back 4 look like strangers. During his 4 game injury we’ve conceded 12 goals. In the previous 11 games we conceded only 10. The statistics speak for themselves…!

Don’t want to rush him back like we have done with players in the past, need him 100% before he returns…but boy do we need him back in the side right now. Said it before, may not be our best defender technically, but the difference in organisation and concentration levels when he is there is priceless.

I honestly now think Lascelles is a future England player, to complement the smaller footballing CBs like Stones and Maguire, perhaps in the centre of a back three? Some of us questioned his technical ability, but his strength, heading ability, leadership etc. is John Terry like. He will be off in the next 3 years IMO. I think 4 points from our 15 are from draws that a Lascelles goal turned into wins! How bad do we miss him now? Lejune, what a softy, 2 really weak goals conceded against Chelsea and no leadership at the back with a young keeper in Darlow also.
