Newcastle United have registered their interest in buying Josh Brownhill according to an exclusive on Wednesday afternoon.
Teamtalk say that their information is that as well as Burnley, Bournemouth and Leicester, Newcastle have made their interest known in the midfielder.
Turning 22 in 13 days time, Josh Brownhill has been a key factor in Bristol City’s surprise start to the season.
Almost relegated last season, this time around they are third top after 20 matches.
Their improved form has coincided with Josh Brownhill becoming an automatic first choice in the team, last season he started 19 of the 46 Championship matches for Bristol City, whereas this time he has started 18 of the 20 league matches and came off the bench in another.
Struggling to make an impression at Preston, Brownhill joined Bristol City on a free transfer 18 months ago and has made rapid progress.
The midfielder has three goals and two assists so far this season and Teamtalk say Bristol City are desperate for him to sign a new extended contract.
His current deal expires in the summer but the Robins do have an option for an extra 12-months on his contract.
Last season the midfielder only scored one Championship goal but it proved valuable to Newcastle.
Second last game of the season Brighton lost at home 1-0 to Bristol City with Brownhill getting the goal, helping to enable Newcastle to clinch the Championship title on the final dramatic day of the season.
