We have always had a rubbish record at Arsenal, whether the Emirates or Highbury, so yesterday never felt like a day for optimism.

Bags of effort, gallons of guts and an Arsenal not quite of old, meant a close game throughout separated only by a worldy.

Could have easily nicked a goal and a draw in the end.

The ‘run’ just needs to be halted by hook or by crook, with a filthy one nil and a spooned shinner grabbing the winner.

How it comes I don’t care.

What I do care about is this club of ours.

The sale no sale, and continuing games of our disgusting owner, are making me want to hoy myself off a high building, or at least hoy him off one.

Let’s face it, this disaster zone has been solely created by the Lord and Master of Disaster himself. Mike Ashley.

He would sell his own shrivelled nut sack for the right price, so all this destruction of a club is like foreplay for the twisted git.

Just level the city, blow up the bridges and pull the plug on the Tyne whilst you are at it.

You NEEDED to back the manager, that you appointed, this summer and FAILED.

If it isn’t sold by New Year’s Day – YOU MUST BACK HIM IMMEDIATELY!

You have supposedly had a duty of care to every black and white fan in the ground, and around the world, and you have unzipped and slashed all up our backs and told us it’s raining for ten years.

Pack in, sell up and LEAVE.

The lads are honest, hard working – just hugely short on class in this division.

Rafa the best manager we could ever pull.

Somehow we will all get through this. In this life or the next!

Come on you black and white B……s!

we are stuffed and this greedy prk has destroyed the club. I fear the worst relegation rafa throws towel in and we sink as fast as Wearside. sorry im too old to believe in Santa

  • Down Under Mag

While I don’t agree with some of the sack-Rafa sentiment floating around I could play devils advocate here and say that he isn’t helping himself right now. His substitutions and squad choices are somewhat perplexing and when you aren’t winning games then these are the things that will get scrutinised. While I personally think Rafa is the best manager to be at the club since Sir Bobby, I do see the reasoning behind wanting a more grizzled veteran at relegation scraps. When you see the likes of Palace and West ham putting wins on the board after appointing managers we would deem much worse than ours should be then it does create some feeling of “maybe we should do the same”. However, the truth is, Palace, West Ham, Everton etc, despite having bad starts to the season ALWAYS had better squads than us. Look through some of their players and tell me one of ours that would walk into their sides…Shelvey if he can be bothered…Ritchie on a good day…Lascelles perhaps but i’m struggling from there. If we don’t have the players then there is only so much Rafa can do and after years of shoestring budgets, selling our best and brightest and totally neglecting the youth setup, we are finally in a position with no silver lining if this sale falls through and right now who could blame the prospective buyers if they pulled out for fear of being landed with a 300m quid Championship side.

  • HarryHype59

Eighty percent of the blame to Ashley. Twenty percent to Rafa. His signings in the summer were rubbish, Merino excepted.

Dictated by budget which was set by Fatty. How much better would any manager have done under the constraints put upon him? 100% Fat [email protected] fault.

Because they are being ignored, by the same people (you), who are making the same incorrect point.

          • Leazes Ender

That’s because they are irrelevant to the argument of financing the squad kevin….. the owner positioned his club at fifteenth and that has drawn us into the relegation scrap.

Seriously mate have a word with yourself, nobody else goes on like you except your lunatic brother.

          • Clarko

Squad value not accurate, your whole “argument” is therefore wrong. The club has spent enough money to be competitive. Dummy.

      • HarryHype59

Rafa’s priority had to be an EPL quality striker for around £25m. Instead he bought Lejuene, Murphy,Dross and Manky for around £30m. None of who are better ( and could be worse) than the players who were already here!

I blame Ashley primarily for the debacle at this club! Rafa hasn’t enhanced his reputed at all!

His summer buys have been woeful!

  • X,WHY,Y MAN.

Well what is the old adage ?, “The Club Who Is Bottom At Christmas Tends To Go Down.”
Newcastle will surely go into the festive period in the bottom three but will probably end it rock bottom with the side they have.
A poster alluded to squads after a comment I made on another thread about the likes of Brighton and Huddersfield’s squads being just as bad on paper.
That’s as maybe but those clubs are performing at their maximum and are getting results.
Newcastle are the most ineffective squad in the league and do not look capable of dragging themselves out of trouble !

What I find amazing is that certain individuals involved in Football and the media have all defended Ashley’s tenure at Newcastle.
People like Dennis Wise, Simon Jordan et al , Have all at times had their three pennies worth on those awful ungrateful Geordies who have maligned the man who saved their club from ruin.
Well he might as well not have bothered because the club might have been better going to the wall than end up with the zombie existence it now has !

You cannot defend the indefensible and will all know the litany of crimes Ashley has committed in his ten year reign of terror.
Although Rafa Benitez is not beyond criticism in this with his assembling of the current squad.
Kevin Keegan coined the phrase years ago when he said “Parking Players”, And that is what he has done for the most part.
People said at the time when he was getting his squad together for The Championship that there was the danger that the players he was bringing in would not be able to be shifted if they got promoted.
If this was a normal club then yes you go up then set about getting rid of the players who were good for the second tier but not good enough for the first tier.
This is Mike Ashley’s version of Newcastle United where characters like Derek Llambias were sent out in the past with statements like : “No Capital Outlay On Players”, “The Championship Squad From Last Season Will Form The Basis Of This Seasons Squad.”

Rafa’s crime was to not realise that Ashley would never change and when it came to building a squad for a Premiership campaign, Well forget about it !
The Corner Shop Man is so naïve that he probably thought the calibre of the manager would be good enough to keep a rag tag bunch in the top flight for him.
Lets be honest, That is exactly what his attitude has been in his time at Newcastle United.
We are now left with a bunch of players who for the most part couldn’t get a game for most Premiership sides.
There are one or two exceptions but the rest are way below the standard and you were looking for trouble if you thought otherwise.
Rafa should have known better when it came to Ashley as others before have to their cost.

Without significant strengthening in January it is all to likely that a third relegation with Ashley is on the cards.
We all know that he will not give anywhere near enough to stave off the inevitable so it is is probable that it will not be a “Happy New Year” on Tyneside !

  • Leicester Mag

And yet when nothing happens in January come Feb 1st 52000 will make their way through the turnstiles. It’s unfair to criticise fans for loyalty but the sad fact is that like a leech he feeds off it. Direct sheet tat would be less appealing were it set against an entirely empty stadium. If he fails to sell up then we will die of neglect and next time we won’t bounce back. So what can fans do? To me the only option is to drive him out and this only comes through damaging his beloved chav emporium and that may mean a boycott.

    • FatParosite

Boycot boycot boycot… meh… I can blame “the fans” Theirs is not loyalty it’s idiocy used to keep Murdock happy. They will keep going back even after all of this, somehow placated by a new owner & still willing to suffer outrageous ignominy.

        • Leicester Mag

You are right the ‘value’ of this current squad is wrong. The value is the square root of nowt and whoever is to blame does not change the reality that unlike on previous occasions they’ll be no jumble sale to fund any kind of bounce back.

Fifteenth in the wages table! The margin of safety is way too narrow!

    • Danimal

Here we go again, ‘net spending is irrelevant’. Yeah yeah. Since relegation we’ve sold Sissoko, Wijnaldum and Townsend. For all that it’s fashionable to slag those three off, we have not been allowed to buy anywhere near that quality upon our return to the PL. We’d also have a stronger squad and better options if we’d kept the likes of Anita, Gouffran and Krul. Wheeling and dealing was needed, the money in for Hanley and Murphy was a great result – but only if it had been reinvested. As you have said, we had incoming transfer fees whereas the other promoted clubs didn’t. Wasn’t that a great opportunity for us to blow them out of the water rather than try to match them, given that we already knew how close to us they were last season?

      • Clarko

“Since relegation we’ve sold Sissoko, Wijnaldum and Townsend. For all that it’s fashionable to slag those three off, we have not been allowed to buy anywhere near that quality upon our return to the PL”. We have had the funds to do so, that’s the point, those funds have bee used poorly.

“We’d also have a stronger squad and better options if we’d kept the likes of Anita, Gouffran and Krul”. Firstly, I disagree. Secondly, who is at fault for not keeping those players? Benitez.

“Wheeling and dealing was needed, the money in for Hanley and Murphy was a great result – but only if it had been reinvested”. It was, Newcastle had a negative net spend.

“As you have said, we had incoming transfer fees whereas the other promoted clubs didn’t. Wasn’t that a great opportunity for us to blow them out of the water rather than try to match them” The other promoted clubs weren’t relegated the season before hand, the other clubs owners did not have to loan their clubs £33m in December 16 to keep the club running, the other clubs didn’t have a PL wage bill in the Championship.

        • Leazes Ender

Great result?….. Stand up in the crowd and utter one of your sentences…. go on.

The squad is well below the standard required but we’ve lost seven games by one goal, six of them 1-0. Even if Rafa had been allowed to bring in a decent keeper and a good striker/number 10 we’d be in mid-table and takeover would’ve been done and dusted. All for the sake of about £25m.

The Premier League is in danger of impoding.
Man City are completely elite, a chasing pack of 4 or 5. And that’s all they will do ‘chase’ and the rest including Newcastle who have NO chance of winning anything trying to cling on for the TV Money
People will eventually get fed up and go shopping with the wife on a Saturday and start to question the very expensive Sky/Bt subscriptions
We used to mock the Scots when for years only two teams completed at the top but the EPL is going the same way
If there is a takeover, what level of investment would be needed just to finish in the top half?

    • Lhc

In reality at least 150+ million but I’m sceptical about this takeover and if it’s even genuine.

      • Dillon Tovak

Me too. With fear I wait expectantly for the day I go online to see its all fallen through, or even Amanda saying she’s never even been interested.

        • Lhc

I don’t think she is interested, she knows the price so go and pay it. Or is it all just a media stunt with them both. I will only ever believe someone is genuine to buy nufc when it’s signed sealed delivered!

      • Stephen

If Man City win it year after year, buy every one else’s best players then It ceases to be a competition.

        • Lhc

Which is the way it’s going to be for many years to come, Man City sold there soul, there a joke.

    • Lhc

Btw your spot on in what your saying, people are getting disillusioned.

      • Paul Patterson

When Man City are spending £150m+ every summer then the game isn’t a game anymore . .

  • hetonmag

    Good post Jamie.

  • Phil

We have spent money that is right. We have NOT spent money on what the manager wanted or asked for though. Rafa is being forced to buy players who are far from his first choice.
This is because the people who hired him for some reason do not listen to him!
When it comes to football Rafa knows a hell of a lot more than anybody else at our club including every single fan!!
He just isn’t getting what he wanted/expected/was promised or deserves!
Be great to have a guy like clarko involved with the club. Seems just like our owner and hierarchy! Absolute clown

    • Lhc

      🤡 hear hear!

    • Leazes Ender

Rafa wasn’t ‘forced’ to buy anyone.

      • Phil

If he hadn’t of bought anyone people like you would of complained. So after it was clear we wouldn’t pay for the players he wanted he was forced into looking at players he didn’t necessarily want.
So in a way he was forced into buying.
If you want the guy out that is your opinion. BUT I haven’t seen anybody try and turn this club around as much as him. It’s not just what he does on the pitch. It’s in the community and behind the scenes.
If your name refers to the fact you sit in the leazes end I’m not surprised by the spiel you come out with so regularly.
Rafa out pulis in?? Hahahaha. Divy

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

          where`s the Pulis bit ?
          Divy ? you mean Divvy

          • Phil

Its right at the end of my comment. I was struggling to think of any other available managers. So just plucked a name. Hope that’s ok

Well I’m glad Mickey Mouse decided to join in the conversation. Very apt picture considering your input

        • HarryHype59

Instead of wasting £30m on four ducks, why didn’t he buy one or two better players?

          • Phil

He tried going for quality. A combination of lack of backing and struggling to persuade players to come scuppered those plans.
Think anyone would struggle to sell the club to decent players whilst fat mans at the helm

          • HarryHype59

What “quality” players was he after?

        • Geordiegiants

Phil I agreed with the beginning of your post. He had no choice in who he signed as there is no choice when you have to buy the chepest player available for the position, and he certainly does do a lot around the city. Why did you then have a get on everyones back that sits In the leazes?

          • Phil

That was just a lazy comment aimed at leazes ender.
I find it hard going to matches at all now. Every corner of the stadium is negative now. I understand why. I just wish it would change

….You’ve had ten years of it…. have you learned anything yet? ….supporting the team not the regime means….. Supporting the regime!

We have a manager whose face is on the scarves and flags and who earns over 100,000 a week and goes along with this charade….. when was the last time you saw a squad member’s name on the back of a shirt?

Sorry but if Staveley is the answer to this whole relegation issue then she’s also willing to damage the club for her own ends…. and she’s purchasing the club for what reason exactly…. her husband is a Liverpool fan as far as I know?

    • Paul Patterson

She’s not buying the club. She’s the broker . .

      • Leazes Ender

She’s part of the PCP group, so she is partly.
