When Craig David experienced his greatest ever moment watching football, it was Newcastle United who were playing.

As a Southampton fan though, it was only Matt le Tissier who he only had eyes for.

The singer-songwriter picks out a Le Tissier goal in 1993 as his very favourite, though to be fair he had a few to choose from when the player was appearing for Southampton against Newcastle.

Craig David has been making predictions for the Premier League matches this weekend.

A guest of BBC Sport as he goes up against Mark Lawrenson.

Lawrenson thinks that with West Ham’s recent mini revival and Newcastle’s atrocious run of results, the only danger for the Hammers is complacency.

However, Craig David thinks Newcastle ‘definitely’ won’t lose and the game will be a draw.

Mark Lawrenson claims that David Moyes has ‘got his mojo back’.

Hopefully Rafa Benitez will be parading his very soon, though new signings are absolutely essential, as Lawrenson also points out.

Craig David talking to BBC Sport:

“I saw some of the most amazing players come through at Southampton, and mostly get sold on to bigger clubs.

“It’s a hard call on who is my all-time favourite Saints player. I mean we’ve had Alan Shearer, and Tim Flowers was a great goalkeeper but I’d say it has to be Matthew Le Tissier.

“Man, his touch, his goals – wow. When I say they were on a level with Lionel Messi, people say that is debatable but look at some of his free-kicks.

“Le Tissier’s goal against Newcastle in 1993 is my favourite moment as a Southampton fan. The ball was played to him and he flicked it over one guy’s head, then another and then, rather than blasting it into the back of the net, placed it.

“That was what Le Tissier pretty much represented. Just cool, classy, goals.

“This will definitely be a draw – West Ham 0 Newcastle 0.”

Mark Lawrenson speaking to BBC Sport:

“West Ham are another team that have turned the corner.

“They have to be a bit careful here, because Newcastle are on such a bad run – the Hammers cannot afford to think they can just turn up.

“But I can understand why they are confident, because David Moyes has got his mojo back.

“Watching him now, it reminds me of when he started out as a manager with Preston – that hunger and enthusiasm is back, his whole demeanour. He is on the warpath.

“Newcastle are trying to strengthen, starting by trying to take Kenedy on loan from Chelsea. He would be a good addition, but they still need a centre-forward – and quickly.

“Prediction is West Ham 2 Newcastle 0.”

    We bought Joselu on Monday,
    Regretted it on Tuesday,
We weren’t scoring goals on Wednesday,
And on Thursday and Friday and Saturday,
    Relegated on Sunday.

    • Wor Lass

It`s funny, though, that when he first came he was getting standing ovations because of his effort and intelligent link-up play. He just can`t score goals. Maybe if Dwight steps up and takes some of the pressure off he could be rehabilitated. Lejeune has gone the same way. He looked great until he was crocked by Kane. Maybe he`s going to need a bit longer to get the pace of the PL? Grasping at straws?!

      • Geordiegiants

Ha ha it’s that optimism again, but hey it’s all we have being a fan of this football club.

        • mentalman

i’m hoping someone buys him a pair of football boots for christmas.

          • Geordiegiants

            Ha ha lol 👍

    • Rich Lawson

      Funny !

I`m going for the lads to win this one. With Lascelles back, the defence will be tighter and the whole team a little more disciplined. Personally, I would like to see Clark with him and Dummy back at LB, if he`s fit enough, otherwise I`d go with Mbemba. Dwight can cause them problems up top and it sounds like Merino and Ritchie were a bit more like it last week (I haven`t even been able to see “highlights”!). Over the last few games we`ve had a combination of heads dropping, individual errors and bad luck added to the sheer lack of quality in the squad. I disagree with some of Rafa`s team selections but I can see why he is going for those players. At times we`ve outplayed the opposition but we haven`t been able to capitalise on those spells but I think tomorrow we will. 2-1 to the lads.

    • Geordiegiants

2!!!! I like your optimism, but 1 will be a very big surprise in its self.

      • Wor Lass

Two own goals by big Andy – he`s still a fan!

        • Geordiegiants

That’s what Jabba has resorted us to. 🤯

  • Leazes Ender

Craig bloody David…. I think someone at the tax avoidance betting site is having a larf.

    Pay your taxes Michael Tabor.

    • Geordiegiants

So we can send more money to Pakistan to support terrorism. The idiots that control our taxes should be hung never mind giving them more money to squander.

      • Leazes Ender

No ……so we can afford to get rid of food banks in this country by treating people fairly.

I hope you spend a nice day in A&E so you can see for yourself, or have to wait hours for an ambulance…. are you glad your taxes are paying for London’s Crossrail while we have to pay again to travel between North and South Shields.

Or on a footballing note,. we paid for Man City’s stadium, West Ham’s London Stadium and now soon to be Birmingham City’s Commonwealth Stadium….

Great thing equality…. wish we had some.

        • Geordiegiants

I have spent a few recently I have 2 young ones, and it’s full of p!ss heads and smack heads wasting even more tax payers money.

          • Leazes Ender

Yes types like that should just bleed to death although not on the street where it would cost the taxpayer to mop it up…..

if you’re going to be flippant about it why bother having public services…. is it because civility makes a civilisation and lack of it creates division.

Never before have the Rich and Poor been so far apart and its getting worse, the super rich now think of themselves as beyond the law, they can buy their way out of convictions for tax avoidance like Ecclestone….. there’s no great differences between people you know…. but your cheap throw away insults create them.

          • Rich Lawson

True, and I read in our ”media partner” today that Damien Green gets a £16k pay off for being sacked watching p##n at work. A more basic civil servant would be on their way to court if they had not gone to Uni’ with The Prime Minister ?

          • GToon

It won’t be long before you have that bloke who always spouts figures to back up Ashley on your case. Can’t remember his name but he hates socialism and equality in equal measure. What’s his name? He’s got the image of a smiling Margaret thatcher next to his name.

          • Leazes Ender

            Kevin Lee.

          • GToon

Haven’t seen fleckman on here for a while. He’s probably out in town shouting abuse at the homeless.

          • GToon

Actually got tickets for the Luton game. First visit in a couple of years for various reasons.

          • GToon

Bobbifleckman. That’s it. Remembered his name. He doesn’t like helping people or the nhs or anything that benefits the poor. Bet he’s on your case later on mate! Lol.

          • Leazes Ender

Same bloody person…. I think I’ve found his new alias.

          • Geordiegiants

Well I’m not anywhere near rich, but everyone should work for their money, and our goverment should be looking after our money better. I’m not a believer in we should all get the same, as we are all different. It just shows on this site, we all have the same goal for NUFC, but we all have different opinion and ways in which it should be achieved.

        • Rich Lawson

The NHS is a fabulous institution, treated shabbily by the Tory gov’t,who rely on the work ethic of brilliant staff to get by in ridiculous conditions.H2 is a complete nonsense that has put good people out their homes without adequate recompense,it should be scrapped and the money put into The NHS which benefits the whole country not just a southern few.Sorry there is no football in this comment but the subject has come up and I feel strongly about it.

        • S.G.M.

Don’t get rid of food banks!! I’ll starve.

          • Leazes Ender

ehm… that’s the need for food banks which is the issue.

    • Rich Lawson

He can’t,has spent the money on Craig David being the turn at their Xmas party !

  • ghostrider

I can’t believe Mark Lawrenson used to be our defensive coach.
In fact I can’t believe Mark Lawrenson was even a footballer. LMSSAOWRAOTFBLASLAS.

Just in case anyone wants to know what that last bit means.
    It means.
Laughing my stinking sweaty aris off whilst rolling about on the floor belly laughing and stinking like a sewer.

I just thought it sounded better than lol.

    • Rich Lawson

It’s certainly a change ! He was pretty good in central defence with Hanson to help him out but he is a miserable pundit who often plays safe and always favours LFC (Aren’t they ment to be impartial ?)

      • ghostrider

Yeah he was decent in his day. I just meant right now with teh way he goes on. It’s as if he’s lost any real knowledge he had for the game and is just piping up with whatever takes his fancy.
I think the Newcastle canteen lass must have given him dodgy scran when he was at the club for him to dig at us so often.
As for impartial. lol….yeah they’re supposed to be but most are afraid of upsetting those who see them as darlings.

        • GToon

Forget him! How about Pat Nevin on five live. I have to translate for my son when he speaks. My son thinks he’s drunk.

  • Peaky Magpie

He’s turned into Harold Shipman !

    • GToon

He’s just another one of these people who grow a beard and put glasses on to fool people into thinking they have something worthwhile to say. Like somehow they are a fountain of all knowledge or some kind of football professor.

  • wheyayeman

Paul Merson and Mark Lawrenson 2 people’s opinions the overwhelming majority of Toon fans couldn’t give a flying f*#k about. Oh and bet Victor tax dodging scumbags getting fat on the misery of the poor and vunerable. Great work!
