Phil Neville has given a damning verdict on Newcastle United.

The BBC pundit was reacting to comments from Alan Shearer after the 3-2 home defeat to Leicester City.

Alan Shearer was at the match and spoke for pretty much every Newcastle fan when saying ‘Nowhere near good enough Newcastle United today. Sell our club Mr Ashley to someone who wants to be here before it’s too late again’.

In his absence, Phil Neville was on Match of The Day duties and when Shearer’s comments were put to him, he said he totally agreed.

Neville stating that if there somebody wanting to buy the club, Mike Ashley needs to sell as soon as possible and ‘let the club move on’.

He says it is imperative that the sale happens quickly so Rafa Benitez can get some essential extra quality into the team.

However, Phil Neville says it is ‘not one or two’ players that Newcastle need, but ‘four or five players of Premier League quality’.

His brutal overview of the team as it stands is that they will definitely be relegated because it is a team full of ‘Championship players’.

Phil Neville:

‘I think what he (Alan Shearer) is trying to say is (for Ashley to) sell it (Newcastle United) before January because if Newcastle don’t strengthen in January, they will get relegated.

“That team has got Championship quality, Championship players, and they need to strengthen.

“They need to bring in four or five players, not one or two, four or five players of Premier League quality.

“You know you are thinking ‘Have we got a bid at the moment?’, well if so, sell it and let the club move on.”

I’m sorry but it doesn’t take a p**s annoying little Manc to tell us what’s wrong,we already know.So as they say in his part of the world,do one.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

We all know we`re 4 to 5 players short but nothing can happen until January.
He needs to screw his loaf & bring in El Capitano, Dummy, Mbemba in place of Hayden.
Jonjo needs to play as a matter of urgency, get rid of Hoss, Perez, Manquillo.
if he goes 4-4-2 then bring in Mitro to back up Dwight

    • Whickhamrobbie

all of a sudden Dummett is the answer ?
Can you not remember the abuse he used to get ?
The whole squad needs changing not 3 or 4 more like 8 or 9.

  • Toonrobbybobson

Rafa is playing a game to make sure he gets funds and hopefully rid of Ashley. Rafa isngiving us our biggest gift and hopefully he can still turn it around after.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

that game could well relegate us

    • Danimal

I honestly don’t think he is playing a game. I think he’s attempting to stretch a wafer thin squad and get a result. To use one of fatty’s expressions, we are punching above our weight. Almost got a result yesterday (and I mean a point, not three). Draws with Bournemouth, Burnley and Leicester would have us in a decent position. All those results were almost achieved. Like lots of other people, I disagree with certain selections but he seems to have a better football management cv than me. It was the same last season when he got 94 points out of an ordinary squad.

  • magpiefifer

I’m not a fan of the Nevilles, but at least coming from someone outside the North East that we have an inadequate squad makes a change.
Ashley is the odious one who is taking us back into the Championship for a third time – the seeds were sown during the Summer!

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

The Fat Lad stays, Rafa leaves by mutual consent.
enter stage left Tony Spewlis & the nightmare at NE1 continues

    • Peaky Magpie

Or Redknapp ? Just a thought but where’s El Tel at these days ? Perfect fit for the cockney mafia and the scrawny little midget from the jungle must be also looking for something to do.

      • Jezza

Mark my words it’s going to be Joe Kinnear.

        • Leicester Mag

If anyone sets foot in the ground after that then every ounce of pride will have evaporated.

        • Kneebotherm8

          He still alive,is he?

        • Peaky Magpie

For goodness sake that’s The Real Nightmare Before Christmas.Film already in production 😪

        • Peaky Magpie

Here’s a name I’m going to throw into the mix Jezza,Mark Hughes.Stoke fans down here where I live have had enough of him.Just a thought, devils advocate and all that.

      • Rich Lawson

Does Harry’s dog have the funds to buy us ?

        • Peaky Magpie

          Probably,in the Cayman Islands !

    • MadMag83

Pulis would at least keep us up! If Ashley doesn’t plan to invest in January then he may as well sack Rafa and appoint Pulis because he has a track record of keeping average teams up. Rafa doesn’t seem like he knows how to stop the slide without investment.

  • Paul Patterson

I still find it astonishing that Rafa can ‘not trust’ Mitrovic, yet the second we concede late on, he turns to him. That’s a bad manager in any other walk of life.

    • Rich Lawson

Absoloutely, saw him come on afta 87 mins (?) n thought ”what’s the point now” ?

  • Leicester Mag

We’ve several players who are barely championship. Never seen a squad so devoid of pace / power and guile. Ask the question who do we fear losing? The answer says everything. Yet again our search for a diamond in the ruff seems to merely be polished turds

    • Rich Lawson

Even one up we look frightened.

  • Jezza

I completely disagree with Neville’s view that we need four or five players in January. We need at least eleven.

    • Leicester Mag

Arguably we have 2 at best 3 so sadly I’m with you on this rucking depressing

    • Peaky Magpie

You’re right Jezza, men against boys in every game has never been truer.

    • Shields Mag

Agreed, only hope we have is if Ashley goes and every week the value of club goes down, he should be grateful of 250 mill and ship out.

    • Albert Stubbins

To be fair you said that in the close season as well. I do think three or four now would prevent relegation. A striker and left back are crucial.

      • Jezza

Yes I said that in the close season and I still say it now because we are no stronger now than we were at the end of last season. The players we signed in the summer have not improved our playing squad one bit and I never thought they would.

  • Kev-82

Unless paying silly money and silly wages, who exactly are we going to sign in January who is a “Premier League” player. Even with the money, I think persuading anybody with the right experience that would improve the team to actually join a relegation threatened team will be difficult.

    • Geordiegiants

Its all silly money and silly wages now.

    • nevfur

Best hope is probably loans of players wanting to impress before the World Cup and not getting a game where they are

  • Kneebotherm8

We all knew we needed at least 4 quality signings before the season kicked off, none more so than Rafa,Ashleys budget only catered for low quality squad additions.
His gamble (again) hasn’t paid off,I wouldn’t be surprised to see some panic buys in January, which he’s done before, especially if we’re in the bottom three,to which we are inextricably heading.
Whether he’s sold up by then,or not,I can’t see us not getting some quality additions into the squad to attempt to protect his clubs(unfortunately it is his club) premier league status.

  • Bowlsey

It was patently obvious to everyone except Mike f*****g Ashley that we needed to rebuild the squad for life back in the top flight. We didn’t and here we are so nobody should be surprised. We’re a Premier League level club with a Championship level squad. Please Mike, just sell us! You hate us and we hate you so let’s go our separate ways. It didn’t have to be like this but you made it so via your own actions. If Rafa isn’t given funds to strengthen in January we’ll be relegated again. Simple as.

  • Arty Hume

IMHO we are in deep poopy now. Yes we are a premiership club, but with championship players, and this problem was not addressed in the summer, Mashley’s fault entirely. I struggle to name a player who would be wanted by any other club. Those who had value were sold over the last few years, thats the problem now we have no players to sell to buy other ordinary players. Its the end of the road for Ashley, there is no blood left in the stone. However I do think Rafa is rubbing his nose in it, but I am sure this will not bode well with Ms Staveley unless its part of a bigger picture! I could take it if we scraped in at 17th this year and got rid of the parasite custodian so a new dawn can emerge with some new money and idea’s. Everton will be a most interesting game. HWTL’s.

  • TheFatController

‘Have we got a bid at the moment?’

It’s widely acknowledged we have. We’ve wasted two vital weeks with 1 point gained and Ashley scraping around for other investors or playing hard ball on valuation.

Ashkey’s ‘I can’t believe no-one will pay more’ victim mentality has cost the club the chance to put right the wrongs in the squad. When Staveley buys for £200-£250m in Feb, if we’re lucky, we’ll still be odds on for relegation praying we get no injuries etc for the run in …

  • Whickhamrobbie

    Sadly he is right
How many of our players would get in ANY other prem team ?
When was the last time we had a player coveted by a bigger club ?
How many home grown players are even near appearing ?

    The answer is NONE .

we are stuffed right from academy , reserves ,first team and boardroom .
If we are not sold soon we are back down with little chance of a return .

  • TubbyMunky

I wouldn’t be surprised if fatty delayed the sale until after the transfer window has shut, gives Rafa no money, then f**ks off. He’d just love to shaft us big time again.

    • Mal

It’ll cost him big time if he does that.

  • Monkseaton Magpies

We could have easily scored five goals yesterday Leicester were awful at the back they got lucky with two own goals Shearer does not look at the match just says should have been six nil to the opposition hate him with a passion gives us no credit at all the players are not that bad yet Shearer goes over board when we get beat wish he would go back to playing golf.

    • HarryHype59

You need to visit the real world fella!

    • Paul Patterson

      At the game were you?

      • Monkseaton Magpies

Yes are you blind just after the first goal we missed a sitter and just before half time missed a one on one and at two two we just put one wide when it looked like it was going in they got two own goals and one which Darlow should have saved.

        • Paul Patterson

Oh, we must have won then. This seven match winning run is getting to me . .

    • Albert Stubbins

No way. We could have had two with Gail’s early miss but five? I cannot think of three chances all game.

      • Monkseaton Magpies

At two two we just missed at the Leazes end just past the post just after we scored missed another sitter and just before half time should have scored.
