Shola Ameobi has seen his longstanding Premier League record broken.
Monday 20 November 2017 saw Peter Crouch take the title of top Premier League super sub.
When Peter Crouch replaced Shaqiri in the 73rd minute at the Amex Stadium tonight, against Brighton, it was his eighth sub appearance of the season.
It took him to 143 Premier League games coming off the bench (in the Premier League), one more than Shola Ameobi’s record built up over many years at Newcastle.
Jermain Defoe is also a threat to Shola, as well as potentially Crouch, currently on 136 – six behind Shola and seven adrift now of Crouchy.
Whilst Saturday saw James Milner in seventh place add another one off the bench, when coming on against Southampton.
Tonight saw the game end Brighton 2 Stoke 2, with Crouch unable to affect that scoreline when he arrived on the scene, though to his credit he has already scored three goals this season in the top tier when coming off the bench.
